Quarless content with IR decision

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Andrew Quarless is happy. The 24-year-old Packers' tight end isn't happy about missing the entire 2012 season due to a knee injury, but Quarless is glad that his young career can return to normal next year.
"For my career, I'm happy with the decision," Quarless said. "I'm happy, but I'm definitely frustrated. It's definitely something I could have pushed through. I know I could have pushed it. I could have finished the season, playoffs, whatever, but it was definitely something that was going to bother me."
Quarless suffered a gruesome right knee injury on Dec. 4, 2011 after he planted his leg and was blocked from behind in the opposite direction of where his weight was taking him.
There was optimism from Quarless that he could return this season, despite beginning the year on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Though the team activated him on Nov. 7 and had him on the gameday roster in Weeks 11 and 12, Quarless never got on the field in those

Packers place Quarless on injured reserve

The Packers made several personnel moves Saturday, highlighted by the announcement that tight end Andrew Quarless was placed on season-ending injured reserve with a knee injury that has kept him off the active roster since last season.

Green Bay also placed safety Sean Richardson (back) on IR and signed running back DuJuan Harris and receiver Jeremy Ross to the active roster from the practice squad.

Quarless had been activated from the PUP list Nov. 7. He enjoyed a strong rookie year in 2010 -- 21 receptions for 238 yards and one touchdown while filling in for the injured Jermichael Finley -- before a torn ACL ended his 2011 season in Week 13. The 6-foot-4, 252-pounder is in his third year with Green Bay after being selected in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL draft.

Harris, a 5-foot-8, 203-pound second-year running back, played in five games for Jacksonville in 2011. Ross, a 6-foot, 215-pound rookie, spent the final 13 games of 2011 on Indianapolis' practice squad.

Packers News: Harris, Ross to 53, Quarless, Richardson to I.R.

Packers TE Andrew Quarless
The Green Bay Packers have placed tight end Andrew Quarless and rookie safety Sean Richardson on the season-ending injured reserve.
Quarless had not played at all in 2012 due to swelling in his knee after suffering a torn ACL and MCL last season. He came off the physically unable to perform list Nov. 7 but was never able to get back to full strength.
Richardson had been active for five games this season and ranked sixth on the team in special teams tackles. He was on the injury report this week with a back injury but didn’t appear to be in jeopardy of missing the rest of the season.
Richardson missed six games with a hamstring injury.
To fill the void on the 53-man roster, the Packers signed running back DuJuan Harris and wide receiver Jeremy Ross from the practice squad. According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Harris had been impressive on the practice squad, even earning some snaps with the No. 1 offense.
Harris is expected to see...

Packers TE Andrew Quarless In Final Stages Of Rehabbing Knee

Andrew Quarless thought he would have been ready for the regular-season opener, so it should come as no surprise that the Packers tight end thinks he will hit the ground running when he’s eligible to come off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list after Week 6.
Quarless, who tore the ACL and MCL and sustained other damage in his right knee last Dec. 4 against the New York Giants, believes he’s in the final stages of his rehabilitation.
“I’ve got about three to four weeks left before I can step on the field, but it’s feeling good,” Quarless said this week. “Right now, in this last month, we’re polishing things up. The strength is there, so we’re just polishing everything just to make sure everything is right. I’m doing every little thing to get back game ready.”
Quarless said he has cranked up the intensity in the last few weeks.
“I’m cutting hard, which a month ago I wouldn’t have been able to do,” he said. “I’m definitely seeing things come along.”

Walking Wounded: Eight Packers Candidates for Injured Reserve Or PUP

TE Andrew Quarless will probably start the year on the PUP list.
The first NFL roster cut-down of the season is fast approaching. On Monday, August 27th, the Green Bay Packers will need to have trimmed their roster down to 75 players from their current total of 90.
Even though these are essentially the worst players on the team, the decision of who to cut is a tough one. Not only do Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson need to consider the skill of each player, but they also have to take into account the remaining depth they’ll have to work with for the remainder of the preseason. This being the case, the first roster cut-down can be a good time to declare some of the Injured Reserve (IR) or Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) players for the start of the season.
As a reminder, only players who did not practice at all during training camp are eligible for the PUP. They remain on the list for the first six weeks of regular season, after which they have a three-week window to return to pract...

Quarless wants to know source of his new ACL

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Andrew Quarless isn't sure whose ACL he now has in his body, but the Green Bay Packers' 23-year-old tight end would like to find out. After all, seven months after Quarless required surgery to repair the serious right knee injury he suffered last season, he's feeling good and is nearing a return to football."We took (the ACL) from another person, which is crazy," Quarless said. "It's my first time in surgery ever. The cadaver, I really kind of want to know who it is."As is relatively customary, players who need ACL reconstruction are given donor tissue from a cadaver for the surgery.Whoever's ACL it was, it's helped Quarless get on the early side of returning in the 8-to-12 month recovery window that he was told to expect. Quarless has been running for more than a month and a few weeks ago began doing sharp-cut done drills.Though Quarless has yet to pass his physical and hasn't played since Dec. 4, 2011 when he suffered the gruesome injury on

Packers don't need to rush Quarless back

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It's been six months since Andrew Quarless suffered a significant right knee injury, but the Packers' 23-year-old tight end is still a couple months away from being ready to play football again.

"I don't necessarily think I will be ready by the start of training camp, but it's the doc's call," Quarless said this week. "I'm just doing what they say."

Training camp for the Packers begins July 26, and with preseason games starting just two weeks later, Quarless' injury will likely impact his ability to play early on this upcoming season.

It's possible Quarless will take advantage of the new NFL rule that allows each team to bring back one player from injured reserve during the season. Previously, a player on injured reserve could not return during the season in which he was reserved. Under the new rule, the Packers could place Quarless on injured reserve, then have him return to practice after Week 6 and add him to the active roster in Wee

Packers TE Andrew Quarless Might Not Be Ready For Training Camp

It doesn’t look like tight end Andrew Quarless will be ready for training camp, according to Packers coach Mike McCarthy. Quarless suffered a torn ACL in his right knee last December during a regular season game against the New York Giants. McCarthy said he will be “challenged” to return by the start of training camp in late July. McCarthy also said on Sunday following the Packers’ final rookie orientation camp that Quarless is champing at the bit and is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation.
Andrew Quarless: 2011 Green Bay Packers Evaluations and Report Card

Andrew Quarless
1) Introduction: When the Packers drafted Quarless in the fifth round of the 2010 draft, few thought his impact on the following season would be as profound as it ending up being. At the moment when Jermichael Finley tore up his knee in Week 5 at Washington, Quarless had exactly 12 career professional snaps. From that point on, Quarless played over 500 for a Packers team that ended up winning the Super Bowl.

2) Profile:
Andrew Christopher Quarless
Position: TE
Height: 6-4
Weight: 252 lbs.
AGE: 23
Career Stats

3) Expectations coming into the season: Some saw a mini-Finley in Quarless when he came out of Penn State, but there were never the flashes of elite athleticism from Quarless in 2010 like Finley showed during his rookie season. After an injury in camp and the drafting of both D.J. Williams and Ryan Taylor, a number of people thought that Quarless might not make the final roster. He made the 53, but expectations for the second-year tight end were low.

Packers Send Andrew Quarless to IR, Promote Graham Harrell

The Green Bay Packers have placed tight end Andrew Quarless on IR with a knee injury and promoted quarterback Graham Harrell to take his place on the active roster.
Quarless was hurt in the second half of the Packers’ 38-35 win over the New York Giants on Sunday. It was a horrific looking injury as Quarless’s knee buckled while attempting to cover a kickoff. Coach Mike McCarthy said that Quarless will have surgery on the knee in the coming days or weeks.
Harrell has been primarily on the Packers’ practice squad during his two years in Green Bay. After spending the first 13 games there last season, Harrell was signed to the active roster for the final three games after Aaron Rodgers suffered a concussion against the Detroit Lions.
Harrell earned another chance on the practice squad with a preseason that saw him complete 33 of 57 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns. While learning under Rodgers, Matt Flynn and quarterbacks coach Tom Clements, Harrell has shown vast improvements s...
