Colts sign 7 players to futures contracts

The Indianapolis Colts have signed seven players to futures contracts.

Two of Indy's seventh-round draft choices last year --offensive lineman Justin Anderson and quarterback Chandler Harnish, the last pick in the draft -- were re-signed.

The other players Indy signed are cornerback Marshay Green, tight end Dominique Jones, linebacker Shawn Loiseau, running back Davin Meggett and linebacker Monte Simmons. All of those players except Anderson also were on Indy's practice squad last week.

Anderson started the season on the physically unable to perform list. He was moved to the practice squad/injured list on Dec. 11.

Indy (11-6) ended its season Sunday with a 24-9 loss at Baltimore in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

Chuck Pagano Pays Another Visit to Colts, Gives Them Reason to Be Fired Up Against Patriots

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts got an inspirational visit from ailing coach Chuck Pagano on Friday, two days before a game at New England.
Pagano “broke his team down” during practice, interim coach Bruce Arians said.
“It was a beautiful moment,” Arians said. “… He came and enjoyed a good bunch of sunshine and talked to the guys, and it was another beautiful day.”
Dozens of Indianapolis players have shaved their heads in a show of support for Pagano, who is undergoing treatment for a form of leukemia. Orange, a color used to raise awareness of the disease, is everywhere at the Colts’ complex, and Chuckstrong has become a common catchphrase.
Earlier this month, Pagano’s physician said the coach was in “complete remission” but still faced two more rounds of chemotherapy. The Colts hope to have Pagano back on the sideline Dec. 30, Indy’s regular-season finale against Houston.
“That’s the date,” Arians said Friday. “The way he’s going right now, it’s going good.”

Colts Notebook 11-7-2012: Staying Focused

Today’s Colts Notebook features some thoughts from Dwight Freeney, Reggie Wayne, T. Y. Hilton, Cassius Vaughn, and Interim Coach Bruce Arians. Quotes and information are provided courtesy of the Indianapolis Colts Public Relations Department.

Following up an Emotional Win
During their bye week, coming off a last second loss to the Jaguars, Colts players first learned of Coach Chuck Pagano’s leukemia diagnosis. Their world turned on end; they had to go right back to work. Many fans expected the worst in a week 5 matchup with Green Bay.
The team went down 21-3 before storming back in the second half for an emotional 30-27 victory. They did it for their coach, their fans, their families, and each other. They were ChuckStrong. The next game, however, things fell apart. Emotionally drained, Indianapolis fell 35-9 to the New York Jets.
One of the many tests the Colts face this week is to prevent such a letdown from happening again, as they look to follow up another close, em...

Tannehill to start against Colts

Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill is active and will start Sunday against Indianapolis.

He had been listed as questionable all week after leaving last week's game against the Jets with left knee and thigh injuries. Team officials weren't sure whether he would play until the team issued its inactive list about 90 minutes before kickoff.

The Colts (4-3) are keeping running back Donald Brown active but he will not start.

Indy's other inactives are cornerbacks Vontae Davis and Marshay Green, defensive ends Clifton Geathers and Lawrence Guy, offensive tackle Tony Hills, tight end Coby Fleener and receiver Nathan Palmer.

Quarterback Pat Devlin, cornerback Richard Marshall, linebacker Josh Kaddu, offensive tackle Will Yeatman, defensive tackle Tony McDaniel, tight end Michael Egnew and safety Anderson Russell are inactive for Miami (4-3).

Colts Release NT Dixon and RB Moore, Elevate CB Green and FB Hughes from Practice Squad

In preparation to host the Miami Dolphins this Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium the Colts have made some roster moves. First, they released veteran RB Mewelde Moore and waived ex-Philadelphia Eagle NT Antonio Dixon. To take their spots on the 53-man roster, the Colts signed CB Marshay Green and FB Robert Hughes who were on the practice squad. They also have signed speedy CB Teddy Williams for one of the openings on their 8-man practice roster.
After the jump, we’ll take a peek at what these moves might say for the team.

Signing Mewelde Moore over the summer made a ton of sense for a young team who could use some more veterans sprinkled in, here and there. Moore seemed to be the perfect fit. As a former Steeler he knew Bruce Arians’ offense and could teach the young running backs as a player-coach. When he made the team he was expected to take the 3rd-down back role and flourish as Andrew Luck’s personal protector on passing downs.
Well, Moore was underwhelming in that role.

Colts Sign OC A.Q. Shipley, Waive OLB Mario Addison and Swap Defenders on Practice Squad

After an emotional morning at the Colts complex with the news regarding Coach Pagano’s illness, a few business matters were attended to in order to prepare for Sunday’s game against Green Bay.
The Colts have elevated center A.Q. Shipley from the practice squad by signing him back onto the active roster. In order to open a spot for Shipley, the Colts have waived outside linebacker Mario Addison. They also replaced cornerback D.J. Johnson with Marshay Green on the practice squad.

A.Q. Shipley (6’1”, 309) was with the Colts during training camp and was active for the week 1 game against Chicago but was waived when the team signed veteran OG Trai Essex. He has spent the interim on the practice squad and his signing today hints at a few things. Perhaps Satele’s injury is looking more significant than the Colts had hoped and/or the Colts really have no intention of re-signing Essex (as I had speculated last week). Either way, he provides depth on the line and I would not expect him to...

Cards notebook: Options at cornerback

The Cardinals believe they've gradually bolstered their secondary over the past couple years, so it seems doubtful they will use another high draft pick on a cornerback or safety. All but one of the starting four spots in the secondary is set, and the team has plenty of candidates for the one that's open: left cornerback.

Strong safety Adrian Wilson and free safety Kerry Rhodes are entrenched as starters. Patrick Peterson is solid at the right cornerback spot, although that's really only a job title. Over the course of the season, Peterson increasingly lined up wherever the other team's best receiver was. Peterson struggled at cornerback through the first half of the season but gradually improved, and the coaches are confident he will emerge as one of the better cover men in the NFL.

It's the other cornerback position that's open. The favorite entering the offseason is Greg Toler, who missed all of last season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the preseason.
