Texans OTAs: Day Three Recap

The third OTA for the Houston Texans was held before the weekend starts and there was a new life during the practice. It was another tolerable day for the practice with a nice overcast and good breeze.
Here are some notes on OTAs from today:

Day Three
- Inside linebacker Tim Dobbins was absent today for the third straight practice. There is plenty of chatter going on how he should be there at “voluntary” OTAs but one thing is for certain training camp is where it counts. Dobbins, a special teams captain, is catching heat for not being with his teammates. There is no known reason for Dobbins not being at OTAs but he is also coming off a foot injury that landed him on the injured reserve late in the 2012 season. That could be an issue, or it might not, but this is a “voluntary” camp and Dobbins not being at OTAs could be just what it is. Nothing.
- Punters are usually not great to discuss but Shane Lechler has been fun to watch at camp. The noise of the ball off of Lechler’s foot so...

Texans OTAs: Day Two Recap

Today was day number two and practice number two for the Houston Texans OTAs. There was some news today out of camp and one scary collision that left one Texans player left for further evaluation.
Also, some key veterans took the day off to observe practice but helped when needed with the younger players. The temperature was a little humid and the wind once again provided a nice breeze for the players. Here on some quick notes on day two.

Day Two
- The Texans had two injuries with Phillip Supernaw and Sunny Harris that were labeled as foot injuries from yesterday. Neither player was present at practice.
Antonio Smith and Duane Brown
- Wade Smith, Andre Johnson, Johnathan Joseph, Greg Jones, Owen Daniels and Antonio Smith were all healthy “watchers” today at OTAs. All were helping in drills and talking to the younger players on the team in between plays.
- Tim Dobbins was absent for the second day in a row and it was reiterated by Coach Kubiak that these were “voluntary” OTAs. Dobb...

Kareem’s Failed Promotion

Houston Texans starting corner back Kareem Jackson tweeted out a flyer promoting his NFL weekend in Macon, Georgia this coming March. The only issue is that the company that is helping him promote his weekend did not help him out.
It seems the company that was promoting Jackson’s event forgot to use the spell check.

Vikings Jarius Wright Gets Leveled By Kareem Jackson

The Minnesota Vikings pulled out an impressive upset win against the Houston Texans on Sunday but big victories don’t come easy, especially if your name is Jarius Wright. Wright, a Vikings wideout, got absolutely crushed by Houston’s Kareem Jackson when he tried to turn up field, causing Wright to cough up the football.
The play didn’t draw a flag, but should it have? It looks like there was some solid helmet-to-helmet contact on the hit. Check out the GIF below and decide for yourself.

Houston prepares for 1st Thanksgiving game

The Houston Texans won't have long to lament the mistakes they made against the Jacksonville Jaguars before rallying for a wild 43-37 overtime win.

They've got a quick turnaround before playing their first Thanksgiving game against Detroit where they'll look to improve on their franchise-best 9-1 start.

Coach Gary Kubiak said playing four days after an overtime game, ''is tough, but I think that's what builds the character of your team.''

He said they'll have very light workouts this week and most of their preparations for the Lions will be mental instead of physical.

The good news for his team is that it won't play again until Dec. 2 after this one.

''As hard as it is, you get a chance to give the guys a break after the game,'' he said. ''You've got a big period between that and your next game, so I think that gets them excited.''

Now the Texans face the NFC's top offense as they begin a three-game road swing that could be

Do You Believe Kareem Jackson Has Improved?

This season for the Houston Texans is a season like no other in history. We have a legitimate team that has the talent and ability to be Super Bowl contenders. Yeah, let that sink in for a minute. The Texans seemingly have the most balanced team on both sides of the ball. They have pro bowlers at almost every level and they have rising players that will soon be recognized amongst the elite of the game. One player in particular that I have been keeping an eye on is Kareem Jackson. For the last two years, Jackson has been the whipping boy for everything that goes wrong for the Texans. He is now showing signs that those days may be behind him.
When Kareem Jackson came to Houston, he wasn’t highly touted out of college and was sort of unknown. He played in a pro style defense under University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban. Jackson was always the “other” corner alongside Javier Arenas. Arenas was the spark plug of the defense, a true playmaker, and a do it all kind of player. Jackson ...

Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars NFL Week 2 Preview

Arian Foster was not fully healthy heading into last week’s game against the Miami Dolphins, and yet he found paydirt on two separate occasions.
The key was the ability of Matt Schaub to dissect a Miami defense that has struggled in the past against solid receivers.
Andre Johnson would fit the bill as he redeemed himself after all of the previous injuries he has gone through. Johnson was targeted 10 times, and hauled in eight passes for 119 yards and 1 TD.
Owen Daniels was projected to be a bust this season, and he made Miami look like they always do against tight ends (lost since they have always struggled).
Daniels brought in 4 passes for 87 yards , which opened up the ground game for Foster and Ben Tate.
Tate shockingly only toted it 5 times for 6 yards, which is a bit of a surprise since Houston was winning the entire game.
He did however catch 3 passes for 22 yards, but the Texans have one of the better lines in the NFL thanks to their zone-blocking schemes.
Production and cons...

This past weekend we caught up with Houston Texans starting corner back Kareem Jackson, who was anxious to return to practice with his then healing hamstring.
We talked about expectations for the 3 year starter for the Texans and how Vance Joseph and Johnathan Joseph have helped him as a player. Jackson knows it is a big season for him, and the Texans in 2012, see what he had to say.

Texans Could Bench Struggling CB Kareem Jackson

With the Houston Texans imploding as they head toward their first playoff berth, there is the possibility the team may need to make a lineup change. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle says 2010 first-round pick Kareem Jackson, who has struggled at times this season, could be headed to the bench after allowing the game-deciding TD pass to Reggie Wayne in a 19-16 loss to the suddenly resurgent Indianapolis Colts. The Texans have already won the AFC South, but they aren't exactly heading into the playoffs with momentum on their side, having dropped two in a row an likely having to now play in the first round instead of having a bye.
Jackson, Joseph making impact on run defense

HOUSTON - Of the lasting images from the Texans' masterful defensive effort against the Falcons last Sunday, perhaps the most memorable was that of nose tackle Earl Mitchell sprinting to and then hurdling a pile of bodies to assist on a tackle of Atlanta running back Michael Turner.

The defender at the bottom of the scrum, the first on the scene wrapped around the robust legs of Turner: Texans cornerback Kareem Jackson. That Jackson tackle preceded his jarring hit later in the afternoon, one so vicious that a collective groan emanated from the Reliant Stadium crowd before an official reflexively tossed a flag out of the belief that Jackson's strike was flagrant. The penalty was waved off and play continued, but the collision reinforced what has long been apparent.

The Texans (9-3), aligned in a 3-4 scheme supposedly susceptible to the run, rank fourth in the league against the run in part because of the physical play of Jackson and his cohort, Johnathan Joseph. To watch both in action is to observe
