City squad impresses Pellegrini

A hat-trick by Lionel Messi fired Argentina to an easy 4-0 friendly win in Guatemala on Friday.

Messi played for 67 minutes, opening the scoring 13 minutes in the game.

Augusto Fernandez made it 2-0 and then Barcelona star Messi scored from the penalty spot before completing his hat-trick after the break.

Messi and Sergio Aguero were the only usual starters that played from the beginning of the match but Argentina still dominated.

Argentina created chances from the start with Ezequiel Lavezzi, Aguero and Messi all going close before the latter netted his first with a shot from outside the box.

Guatemala showed little ambition in a game which looked a lot like a training session, Fernandez doubling the advantage in the 34th minute with a header.

Five minutes later Messi was fouled in the box and he made the hosts pay from the spot with his second goal.

For the second half coach Alejandro Sabella brought on Roma's Erik Lamela for his debut as Aguero was withdrawn.

Argentina stays top with draw; Colombia in second

Argentina managed a 1-1 draw against Ecuador on Tuesday in the thin air of Quito to remain on top of South America's World Cup qualifying standings.

Sergio Aguero opened the scoring with a penalty in the fourth minute for Argentina, but Segundo Castillo equalized with a header in the 17th. Lionel Messi came on as a substitute in the 60th minute. The Barcelona star has an injured right hamstring and missed the final three weeks of the Spanish league season.

Argentina improved to 27 points from 14 matches and has traditionally had problems playing in high altitude at Quito, which is located at 2,800 meters (9,350 feet) in the Andes.

Colombia maintained second place in the group with 26 points from 13 games following a 2-0 victory against Peru.

Radamel Falcao and Teofilio Gutierrez scored for Colombia in the coastal city of Barranquilla. Falcao converted a penalty in the 13th minute and Gutierrez scored in first-half stoppage time.

The top four teams in the group advance automatically to the World Cup n

Aguero happy to extend deal

Sergio Aguero is happy to have signed a new contract with Manchester City and says that reports suggesting he was set for Real Madrid were untrue.

The 24-year old striker netted 12 Premier League goals this season but endured a frustrating campaign as City failed to retain the title and were beaten finalists in the FA Cup.

Aguero signed a contract extension last week to keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2017 and he was quick to dismiss the Real link.

"They were only rumours. I have a commitment at Manchester City, which is a great club," the Argentine told the media in his homeland.

"I am happy to be part of a team that is growing up very fast. I am happy in Manchester, two years have gone by and I expect that we can do big things in the next few years.

"You can't win the title every year, but we finished second and played in the FA Cup final. I hope next season we win titles again."

Aguero pens contract extension

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has underlined his commitment to the Premier League club by signing a one-year contract extension.

The 24-year-old Argentina international is now contracted to City until 2017, the club confirmed today.

Aguero joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2011 for ?38million and ensured his place in the club's history books when he scored the last-gasp winning goal against QPR to seal the 2011/12 Premier League title and end the Blues' 44-year wait for the title.

Aguero recently played down talks of a move away from the Etihad in the summer, saying: "I'm very happy at City and I feel very appreciated. It's been barely two years since I've arrived and sometimes I feel like I've been here for all my life.

"I have a fantastic relationship with the fans, and that always reminds me of our title and that goal against QPR. I can never forget that moment.

"Now I am looking forward to next season and pushing hard to win the title again."

Aguero happy at Manchester City

Sergio Aguero insists he is happy at Manchester City and sees no reason to leave the club after just one trophy-less season.

The 24-year-old Argentina striker has been linked with a move away from the club, although City chief executive Ferran Soriano said on Friday he was not for sale.

Aguero told The Sun: "There are always rumors in the summer. But I am very happy at City. I'm going to work hard and everything else is just rumors.

"Every player wants to play in big teams that win titles. We didn't win anything last season but we have won trophies in the last few years so there is no reason to go."

Aguero's comments came a day after Soriano said the club would not entertain offers for the record £38million signing.

"We have never had an offer and even if we had an offer we would say no," he said.

An attempt to build Fan base globally: Manchester City Launched new Nike kit.

Originally posted on Top-soccer.comLike every top teams in Europe big leagues, most or if not all of them either have Nike or Adidas as their kit sponsor except for Manchester City who was one of the few that weren’t sponsored by neither the American or German well-known brand.
Now that City has realized to compete on the same font as their city neighbor Manchester United or even Chelsea on a global scale, they need to reach a broader fan base.
With the announcement of their new kit deal with Nike yesterday in New York City they certainly can level that playing field and have their brand reach beyond the shores of Europe and into different markets through Nike enormous market distribution.

Aguero, Toure see off West Ham

Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure lifted the post-title gloom for Manchester City with a couple of outstanding goals to secure a 2-1 win against West Ham .

Last season's elation at Eastlands has been replaced by the grim realisation that the red enemy from down the road are back in their familiar position of champions.

Manager Roberto Mancini has already demanded that the summer transfer business should not drag on like last year.

But the City chief clearly has plenty of quality at his disposal already, and the delightful efforts Aguero and Toure contribution to the entertainment underlined the fact they remain a force.

There was an unexpected post-script to the day though, with Joe Hart's mistake allowing Andy Carroll to net an injury-time consolation amid fears the England keeper had suffered an injury himself.

Mancini implored his players not to feel sorry for themselves in his programme notes, the loss of their title five games before the end of the season has to be a source of regret.

Luiz accepts Aguero apology

Chelsea defender David Luiz has accepted Sergio Aguero's apology following the Argentinian's two-footed challenge on Sunday.

City striker Sergio Aguero wrote on his official Twitter account: "I've contacted @DavidLuiz-4 and apologized for what happened during the match. It was an impulse reaction that shouldn't have happened."

Luiz responded: "Thank you @aguerosergiokun for a demonstration of character. We get to know great man and athletes this way."

Both of Aguero's boots made contact with the upper part of Luiz's left leg as the two tangled late in City's 2-1 win, which secured a place against Wigan in next month's final.

The Argentina international will face no action over the challenge after the Football Association confirmed referee Chris Foy had seen at least part of the incident and acted on it during the match, meaning the governing body were unable to deal with it retrospectively.

Aguero apologizes to Luiz for nasty tackle

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has apologized to David Luiz for his ugly two-footed stamp on the back of the Chelsea defender's thighs during Sunday's FA Cup semifinal at Wembley Stadium.

Aguero says in a Twitter post that he has contacted Luiz to say sorry for the 85th-minute tackle in City's 2-1 win, adding that it was an ''impulse reaction that shouldn't have happened.''

Luiz used Twitter to thank the Argentina international for a ''demonstration of character. We get to know great man and athletes this way.''

Aguero escaped any retrospective punishment - a likely three-match ban - for the tackle because referee Chris Foy confirmed he saw at least part of the incident and acted on it during the match.

Aguero escapes FA punishment

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero will face no action for his two-footed challenge on Chelsea's David Luiz.

The Football Association has confirmed that the Argentina striker will not be charged retrospectively for the incident in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

It follows confirmation that referee Chris Foy had at least seen part of the incident and acted on it during the match - Chelsea were awarded a free-kick.

Both of Aguero's boots made contact with the upper part of Luiz's left leg but under current FA rules only off-the-ball incidents or those viewed as "exceptional" - which would, for example, warrant more than a three-match ban - are dealt with retrospectively.

There was an outcry when the FA took a similar view on Wigan's Callum McManaman after his studs-up challenge on Newcastle's Massadio Haidara, who was carried from the field on a stretcher, last month.

This was slightly different in that, unlike Haidara, Luiz suffered no serious harm and played o

Luiz urges Aguero to apologize

David Luiz has urged Sergio Aguero to apologize for the incident during yesterday's FA Cup semi-final that left him with stud marks on his back.

Aguero scored City's winner in their 2-1 Wembley triumph but his second-half challenge on Luiz left a sour taste as he jumped on the Chelsea defender's back.

And whilst Luiz did not condemn Aguero, he did claim if the striker had done something wrong, he should be big enough to admit it.

"Aguero's a great player," said Luiz. "He needs to be honest with himself and say I don't like to do bad tackles. People are happy when Aguero scores goals and does good things in the game.

"Many kids see the game, watch the game and they want to see good things and not bad things. I didn't see it because I was on my back but I felt it a little bit. Sometimes in a game people have five seconds when they are angry and do things they don't like to do. I think it was that. I never saw Aguero do a bad tackle on other players.
Sergio Aguero’s Surge, Emphatic Finish Gives Manchester City Win Over Manchester United (Animation)

Sergio Aguero is no stranger to scoring big goals, so it came as no surprised when he netted the winner in one of the defining games of the Premier League season.
Aguero scored a memorable goal in Manchester City’s win over Manchester United on Monday. His 78th-minute strike stood as the difference between the local rivals, as City prevailed 2-1.
The Argentine striker started the game on the bench, and he had been on the field for less than 10 minutes when he took charge of the proceedings.
He received a pass on the right side of the United defense and ran laterally toward the left. He displayed an unnatural mix of speed, composure and precision as he powered and feinted his way past a trio of United defenders — all while keeping control the ball.
As Aguero approached the United goal, he maintained his balance and generated enough power on his shot to beat goalkeeper David de Gea.
The win will boost City’s morale as the season nears its conclusion. United has a 12-point lead with s...
