When bad things happen to "good" teams

Osi Umenyiora had a straight face when he said it and I’m absolutely convinced that he believes it. In fact, I’m pretty sure that in the Giants’ locker room, he’s not alone.

“We’re not a bad team,” Umenyiora said, moments after the Giants lost to the Denver Broncos 26-6. “We’re a good football team. We just played bad today. We’ll get it right. We’ll get it right.”

I’m starting to think that the Giants believe...

How the Giants' Biggest Strength Has Become Their Kryptonite

For the past few seasons, the New York Giants' bread and butter has been their offensive line and pass rush.

Now, it appears that their bread has gone stale and the butter has been sitting in a busted refrigerator for over a year.

Tom Coughlin came to the Giants with an agenda. He started coaching in a different generation but knew that the key to winning laid with the big men.

A stellar pass rush coupled with a tone-setting offensive line could keep a team in any gam...

Holmgren's Record as Seattle GM

Obviously the subject of Mike Holmgren as Seattle GM continues to be brought up. I can't get away from it, from Steve Kelley to Ian Furness to several commenters on this site. So regardless of whether or not we'd all like it to be a dead issue, there is a feeling out there that he's the best fit to take us back to respectability. Well... let's actually take a real peek at his record as GM from 1999-2002. Luckily, a lot of the heavy lifting has already been done for us, by ...

After 2009, will Robbins and Cofield be Giants?

Next year, starting defensive tackles Fred Robbins and Barry Cofield may not be wearing blue. There is several reasons for the Giants not to retain Robbins and Cofield. They are in the last year of their current contracts, suffered knee injuries, and they have not played at a high level. In addition, Giants GM Jerry Reese broke the bank this past off season on defensive linemen Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard. Canty signed a six year 42 million dollar deal. And Bernard inked a four year 16 mill...

NFL Playbook: Saints vs Giants

NFL Network's Mike Mayock and Brian Billick analyze the Saints game plan. After watching this segment, the Giants interior line could not generate pressure. Both Cofield and Robbins are coming off knee injuries. Are they 100 percent? Are they playing too many snaps? Where is Rocky Bernard? If the Giants face the Saints in the playoffs, will Chris Canty make a difference? In my preview, I stated the following: Exlpoit the Saints interior line. I think the Giants will use DE/DT Justin Tuck ...

NFC Power Rankings: Week 1

1. Giants- May have the top offensive and defensive line in the league. The receivers looked average at worst. As free agents Chris Canty, Rocky Bernard and Michael Boley get comfortable and healthy, the defense should be even better.
2. Eagles- Looked most impressive of any team in week 1, but injury concerns keep them from [...]

Bernard Wants to Be Back with the Hawks in 09

From: Seattle P-I
Rocky Bernard, a mainstay on the defensive line the past three seasons, also wants to return. But he also had off-field problems in the offseason, potentially putting him at odds with Ruskell?s emphasis on stockpiling players of high character. ?This is the team that drafted me, I?ve been here for seven years, so [...]
