The Trenton Titans players were normally on the ice at this time of the day.
The Titans usually have a morning practice. However, this time around, the team was playing their first morning game of the season.
It is also their only morning game of the season. And the team was able to beat the Reading Royals, 4-3, in overtime at the Sun National Bank Center.
On the season, the Titans (14-17-3-2, 34 points) are 4-6 against the Royals (26-9-1-3, 56 points). They have won two of the four games in overtime at home, but they also lost an overtime game, which ended in a shootout loss, in Reading.
These two teams will play in Trenton again on February 8th. The puck drops at 7:05 pm in this game.
The Royals took an early lead, but they were not able to pull off the win. It is the third straight game that the Royals took an early lead, but they were not able to finish with 2 points. They ended up with 1 poin

Eyes on the Enemy: New Jersey Devils

Notable players lost: Zach Parise (MIN)
Notable players obtained: Bobby Butler (OTT), Krystofer Barch (FLA)

Drafted: Stefan Matteau- 1st round, 29th overall

It has been that kind of offseason for the Eastern Conference champions. It is virtually impossible for a team to lose a 30 goal scorer and only acquire a pair of fringe NHL'ers in return, to expect any kind of return to glory. The Devils financial issues are well documented and was possibly the mitigating factor that saw Devils captain Zach Parise, walk off to Minnesota with a 13 year, $98 million dollar contract in hand, in search of stability and long term success that he wasn't going to get in New Jersey.

With Brodeur in his 40's and nearing the end of his career, the Devils will be soon be looking to add a new goaltender. One name Ranger fans should start to familiarize themselves with is Scott Wedgewood, the Devils 3rd round pick in 2010. Wedgewood, who just turned 20, will be competing for the start...

Follow @BrianHuddle

Last night I got to take in Game Four of the Guelph-Plymouth game, but from a different perspective. For the first time this season, I didn't use a media pass, but took my fiancee Liz and bought front row seats. We got to sit in the corner right behind Scott Wedgewood for two periods, and Garret Sparks in the other.

From ice level, the game looks and feels a bit differe...

Devils sign 19-year-old G Scott Wedgewood

The New Jersey Devils have signed 19-year-old goaltender Scott Wedgewood to an entry-level contract.

Devils chief executive Lou Lamoriello announced the signing Monday without releasing contract details.

The 84th pick in the 2010 draft, Wedgewood spent the past four seasons with Plymouth (OHL), posting a 28-10-3 record with three shutouts, a 3.02 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage in 43 games this season. He has a 61-39-5 mark with six shutouts in 122 regular-season contests.

Wedgewood posted a 2-0-0 record in helping Canada earn a bronze medal at the 2012 World Junior Championships. He will attend his third training camp with the Devils in September.

Here are some notes on some of the New Jersey Devils prospects and how they've performed in their respective league this season, and as of late.

Team Canada closes preliminary round with win against Team USA

Team USA can not place higher than seventh in the World Juniors Hockey Tournament, after Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Team Canada.
Canada pulled out early with three goals in the first period, and USA got a couple in to come within to almost pull an upset in the third.

Both goalies, however, were on their game. And it turned out to be Scott Wedgewood’s (OHL, Plymouth Whalers; New Jersey Devils prospect) night to celebrate early on New Year’s Eve, as opposed to USA’s Jack Campbell (OHL, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds; Dallas Stars prospect), who proved to be stellar the final two periods.
Team USA will play Latvia on Jan. 3 and Switzerland on Jan. 4 to close out the tournament.
Canada, however, came within a scary goalie safety moment when USA’s Emerson Etem (WHL, Medicine Hat; Anaheim Ducks prospect) clipped the feet of Wedgewood while battling for a loose puck out of the crease.
Wedgewood was shaken, but not broken. He rubbed off the fall, and stayed between the pipes to fend...

Wedgewood, twitter and a new laptop

This morning Scott Wedgewood is named as the starting goalie for tonight's game against the USA. He's earned the start with his play and now basically the job is his to lose. After two losses this game doesn't mean anything in the standings for Group B as Canada has now secured the bye to the semi-finals, but the Americans will still to play hard because well it's a game against Canada. And three losses in a row will just bring on more criticism for the players. But what is an awesome side story is this story in The Province (originally in the Edmonton Journal) involving Wedgewood, a twitter follower and getting a new laptop.Yeah that's right. If you are too lazy to click on the link, here is the gist: After tweeting that his laptop is dying, a twitter follower of his tweeted back a sale that deal that Future Shop was having. Jokingly Wedgewood tweets "Want to buy it for me? #greatlyappreciated".And the response was “Give me a shipping address,” “Consider it a playing for Ca

Canada beats US at world hockey juniors

Canada capped a perfect run in the preliminary round of the world junior hockey championship with a 3-2 victory over the United States on Saturday night.

Mark Stone had a goal and an assist for Canada, which will face either Russia or the Czech Republic in Tuesday's semifinal in Calgary. Jaden Schwartz and Brett Connolly also scored for Canada in front of 16,647. Scott Wedgewood made 30 saves for his second win of the tournament.

Charlie Coyle and captain Jason Zucker scored for the US in the third period. Jack Campbell, playing in his third straight world junior tournament, made 32 saves.

Canada (4-0) had already secured first in Pool B and a bye to the semifinals heading into the game, while the US (1-3) already knew it was headed for the relegation round.

So, what had been billed as a huge New Year's Eve showdown lacked urgency. Bursts of spirited play and flashes of ill-will between the North American rivals were mixed with lulls. The Canadians were faster out of the gates than the Americans,

Plymouth Whalers’ hair-raising effort to fight breast cancer

Like other teams, the OHL's Plymouth Whalers do their part during Breast Cancer Awareness month, donning pink jerseys and having a Pink Out at the rink for the fourth consecutive season. But unlike other teams, they take it one step further: Dying their hair shocking pink, as a team.

The 2011 Whalers Pink Out was Saturday night against the Sarnia Sting, with a jersey auction that benefitted the Karmanos Cancer Institute. The players had their hair styled for the game throughout the week, courtesy of Lucky Hair Company.
From MLive.com's Whale Tales:
Goaltender Scott Wedgewood is a four-year veteran of the Pink Out! and decided to go with a blow-dried look after working with a Mohawk in other years. Alex Aleardi looked sharp in a pink do that was slicked back. Matt Mahalak continued with the tradition of a Mohawk. Nick Malysa decided to get his fu-manchu mustache pinked out.
Although Andy Bathgate has played four full seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, this is his first y...
