AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has admitted the club are not interested in signing veteran Barcelona captain Carles Puyol, and are instead focused on younger players.

The Rossoneri have been linked with a move for Puyol after the Barca stalwart admitted he is a fan of the Serie A outfit, but Galliani says age is not his side.

"Carles is a good friend of Milan and we know how much he loves this club after Barca," he told Mundo Deportivo.

However, Galliani did admit that Milan would jump at the chance to sign some of Barcelona's younger players should they become available, with rumours of a move for Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez in the pipeline.

Carles Puyol Scores Spectacular Backwards Header

Barcelona FC captain and veteran defender Carles Puyol doesn’t score that often, but when he does it’s usually with his head.
During Wednesday’s Cope del Rey match between heavyweight Barcelona FC and spanish side Malaga, Puyol scored a brilliant (and somewhat lucky) header in the 30th minute to give Barca the 2-1 lead. Puyol redirected a cross from teammate Thiago off the back of his head from about 15 yards out that hit the far post before bouncing in, leaving Malaga goalkeeper Kameni completely hopeless.

Here is another video of the goal with some more angles of the incredible goal:

Carles Puyol's Misfortune Continues, Barcelona Captain Suffers Gruesome Elbow Injury (Video)

Carles Puyol has already missed much of the new season because of various injuries, and his misery continues. The FC Barcelona captain dislocated his elbow Tuesday, suffering a gruesome injury that will keep him sidelined for the next six to eight weeks. The injury occured in the 76th minute of a UEFA Champions League game at Portugal's Benfica. Puyol was jumping to head away a corner kick, but as he came down, his feet got tangled with an opponent's leg. The 34-year-old stretched his arm out to break his fall, but his body fell at an awkward angle. The force...

Barcelona Defender Carles Puyol Suffers Nasty Injury

Star defender Carles Puyol suffered a nasty injury to his right arm in Barcelona’s Champions League win over Benfica, today. In the 76th minute, Puyol jumped for a header from a corner kick but landed very awkwardly on his arm, bending his elbow in a way it was not meant to bend. From the looks of the video, the injury could be more than just his elbow, as the entire weight of his body forced his shoulder back along with the rest of his arm.
Puyol was carried off of the pitch on a stretcher and taken to a hospital, but there has been no word of how significant the damage was. This is a huge blow not only for Barcelona, but the defender himself, as he was playing for the first time since his quick return from a knee injury he sustained only two weeks ago.

Barcelona's Puyol out with leg injury

Barcelona says defender Carles Puyol will be sidelined for four to six weeks with a leg injury.

The 34-year-old team captain pulled a ligament in his left knee and had to be substituted in Barcelona's 4-1 win at Getafe on Saturday.

The club says he will undergo more tests on Sunday.

After rarely missing action early in his career, Puyol has been hit by injuries in the past two seasons and missed out on Spain's European championship defense this summer after requiring surgery on his right knee.

Barcelona was already without midfielder Andres Iniesta and forward Alexis Sanchez for its Champions League opener against Spartak Moscow on Wednesday.

Barcelona's Puyol returns after knee surgery

Barcelona defender Carles Puyol has returned to the pitch after recovering from surgery to his right knee.

The Barcelona captain saw his first playing time this preseason in a friendly match against PSG in Paris on Saturday. Barcelona won on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regular time.

Puyol's injury in May forced the 34-year-old center back to miss Spain's successful defense of its European championship title.

His backline partner Eric Abidal also said that he is recovering from a liver transplant and is aiming to return to the team before December.

Barcelona next plays Manchester United in a friendly on Wednesday.

Puyol: No problem over new deal

Captain Carles Puyol wants to stay at Barcelona until he retires - and insists there will be no problem in agreeing a new deal with the club.

Puyol's current contract only runs until next summer but after a difficult few months during which he missed the European Championships due to a knee injury, the 34-year-old defender is desperate to get back onto the field of play for the start of the season.

He told sports newspaper Marca, "I have always felt very valued by the club, the fans, my team-mates and the manager. I can't have any complaints. There isn't going to be any problem and the talks are on the right track.

"I have changed my idea (about the experience of playing at another club) and now I want to retire here. I will try to do so. I have the will and desire to continue playing if the club wants me. What I don't want though is for me to become a drag, I am very clear on this.

Puyol: Everything OK after knee surgery

Barcelona defender Carles Puyol says his knee operation went well.

Puyol wrote on his Twitter feed after undergoing surgery to his right knee on Saturday, saying ''I'm in my room after the operation. Everything OK.''

The 34-year-old Puyol is set to miss Barcelona's Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao on May 25 and Spain's title defense at the European Championship as he needs about six weeks to recover.

Puyol has been hampered by knee problems in the past few seasons, having also undergone surgery on his left knee.

The Barcelona center back has been a regular for the World Cup winners at major championships since his debut in 2000, making 99 appearances for Spain.

Puyol pessimistic about Euro 2012

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol is still hoping to reach 100 appearances for Spain despite acknowledging he is almost certain to miss this summer's European Championship due to a knee problem.

Barca announced on Tuesday that Puyol will undergo an arthroscopy on May 12 after feeling discomfort in his right knee following Saturday's 4-0 defeat of Espanyol - and that is set to sideline the centre-back for around six weeks.

That means the 34-year-old is definitely out of Barca's final Primera Division game at Real Betis at the weekend and he will also miss coach Pep Guardiola's last game in charge - the Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao on May 25.

His participation at Euro 2012 is also extremely doubtful with Spain opening their campaign against Italy on June 10 before going on to play the Republic of Ireland and Croatia in Group C.

However, while he admits it is highly unlikely he will be going to the Euros, Puyol, who has earned 99 caps for Spain and helped his country win Euro 2008

Carles Puyol set to miss Euro 2012

Barcelona defender Carles Puyol is set to undergo knee surgery, ruling him out of Spain's title defense at the European Championship .

Puyol felt discomfort in his right knee in Barcelona's 4-0 victory over Espanyol last Saturday, and medical tests have led the 34-year-old to opt for an arthroscopic operation.

Barcelona said on Tuesday that the surgery will be performed on Saturday and Puyol will need six weeks to recover, hurting Spain's defensive options for the June 8 to July 1 tournament in Poland and Ukraine. Puyol will also miss the Copa del Rey final on May 25, when Barcelona plays Athletic Bilbao.

''His absence leaves us without such an important player,'' coach Vicente del Bosque told Spanish sports daily Marca. ''He was playing great at this moment, too. A great shame.''

Puyol missed most of last season after having surgery on his left knee. The Barcelona captain recovered and was a regular in the club's lineup throughout this campaign.

Puyol missed most of last season after surgery on his left knee. The Barcelona captain recovered and was a regular this season.

Puyol has 99 international appearances and has played for Spain at all major championships since the 2002 World Cup.
