Eagles still shopping for WR?

If the Eagles' supposed interest in Randy Moss and Larry Fitzgerald was sincere, it's no secret it feels it needs a more viable threat in the passing game than what is on the current roster. Forget Chad Johnson. The Bengals are playing hardball with him and are not going to deal him and he may be as much trouble as he is worth, and he's worth plenty. Detroit's Roy Williams should be the target. His quotes this past week in which he admitted he thought he was going to be traded before, or during, the draft, speaks volumes. One veteran, who will remain nameless at this time, told me last week his agent told him he could be part of a trade package with Lito Sheppard. So something could still be in the works.

Del Valley Media Still Fabricating Lito For Vet WR Rumors?

I tell ya these guys just dont quit, yeah I like most Eagles fans want a big name # 1 guy to come here. But I've come to grips with the realization that wont happen this season. We have what we have and we cant change that no matter how much we wish and dream. I'm not saying we cant get one but, this year I think we're set. But for some reason the media in the Del Val wont let this story die, the last to put his two cents in on this topic is Times Columnist Mark Eckel, here are some quotes:

1. " After an uninspiring, one eye on the future draft, going after Williams and not letting him go to Dallas, who is also supposedly very interested, would be the blockbuster, go for it, all in move the Eagles need to restore some optimism to their fan base not to mention their soon-to-be 32-year-old quarterback and a 29-year-old running back who want to win now.

The Lions, like the Bengals, have said they won't trade Williams, who is in the final year of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent going into the 2009 season. The Eagles, however, need to make Detroit an offer the Lions simply cannot refuse."

2. " There is certainly ammunition, with that extra first-round pick from Carolina, an extra fifth-round pick from Cleveland, and of course cornerback Lito Sheppard, who played perfect soldier last week at the mini-camp. There are also other players who could be packaged as well.

One veteran, who will remain nameless at this time, told me last week his agent told him he could be part of a trade package with Sheppard. So something could still be in the works.

You can only hope it's for a wide receiver and that the receiver is Williams (you could settle for Arizona's Anquan Boldin, but I want Williams).

WHEN WILL IT STOP??????????/

Contract Trouble For Cardinals?

You can't toss a sock in a hamper in the Cardinals locker room these days without hitting a player with a contract issue.

Receiver Anquan Boldin would like a new deal. So would defensive end Darnell Dockett. Adrian Wilson has said he wants to be the highest paid safety in the NFC. The Cardinals have been in negotiations for months with the agent for inside linebacker Karlos Dansby, their franchise player.

A handful of other key players, such as cornerback Eric Green and defensive end Antonio Smith, are working under one-year contracts.

Not every player will be a happy camper when the club goes to Flagstaff in July. Part of coach Ken Whisenhunt's challenge this year will be to not allow that unhappiness to affect performance.

"That's part of the business," Whisenhunt said of the situation. "As much as you would like to, you can't do everybody at once. We're going to take care of our core players, the ones who have performed at a high level for us, as quick as we can.

"Guys who have played at a high level over a period of time, the Cardinals have shown a history of taking care of those guys, of redoing their contract."

That's true in the case of Boldin, Wilson and Dockett. Each signed contract extensions with the team rather than test free agency. But salaries have skyrocketed since those deals were done, and the players want new contracts that reflect that.

There have been stories that Boldin and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, have requested a trade, something Boldin has denied. Dockett, also represented by Rosenhaus, has not attended voluntary workouts this off-season, although he is at this weekend's minicamp.

In fact, all of the players under contract have attended practices this week, and that's a good sign, running back Edgerrin James said.

"As long as everybody is here, they'll get it all worked out," James said. "You don't see one team where everything is going good for them. If everything was going good, I'd probably get scared."

Cardinals General Manager Rod Graves has made it clear to the players and their agents that the team doesn't have the means to take care of everyone this year. By the time the Cardinals sign their rookies and budget for the practice squad and injuries, they figure they will be close to the $116 million cap.

Signing Dansby to a long-term deal would create some cap space, and more will be gained if some higher-priced veterans don't make the roster coming out of training camp. Even with those adjustments, it is likely that only one other major contract could be done in the coming months.

Boldin, who has three years remaining on his contract, is a priority, as are Dansby and Wilson.

The club has no plans to negotiate a new deal for Dockett, who has four years left and signed an extension in fall 2006.

Dockett declined to discuss his contract situation.

"Karlos Dansby and Antonio Smith gave me a call and wanted me to come to this minicamp," he said. "Right now, I'm just helping my team and the young guys."

Whisenhunt has been proactive in dealing with the issues, talking to the players individually. And the players are saying all the right things.

"When it's all said and done," Boldin said, "I think we'll be intact."

Dansby is due to make $8.065 million this year, the amount of his franchise tender, so he is not sweating the possibility that a multiyear deal won't be reached by July 15, the deadline for franchise players.

If he stays healthy, he will be an unrestricted free agent in 2009. He is aware he could be next year's Calvin Pace, the former Cardinals linebacker who received $20 million in guarantees from the Jets.

"Hey, that's a good analogy, man," Dansby said, chuckling. "Pace is a blessed man right now."

One thing is for sure, the players' contract situations should make the Cardinals locker room an interesting place this fall.

"I love a little controversy," James said, laughing. "You come to work and you don't know what to expect, makes you want to come to work. You don't know what the (expletive) will happen.

Boldin says he wants to remain with Cardinals

Anquan Boldin says it's news to him that he's unhappy and wants out of Arizona.
To the contrary, the two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver says he wants to remain with the Cardinals and is not upset that he has yet to get a new contract on par with teammate Larry Fitzgerald.
"I've always wanted to be in Arizona," Boldin said Friday, the first day of the Cardinals' mini-camp. "This is the only place I've known professionally. I don't want to uproot my family and leave. I'm happy here. I have great rapport with everybody around here, coaches included."
Boldin did sit out Friday's workouts because of a sore hamstring, but said it had nothing to do with any dissatisfaction over his contract.
"I let my agent handle that," he said. "For me, I don't like to get in the media with business discussions because we all see what can happen."
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt repeated the team's intention to sign Boldin to a new contract.
"We've said to Anquan as well as publicly that we fully intend to redo his contract the first window that we have," Whisenhunt said. "We've made efforts to do that and it just hasn't worked out."
Boldin and Fitzgerald form perhaps the best pair of wide receivers in the NFL.
In March, Fitzgerald signed a four-year, $40 million contract with $30 million guaranteed.
The team wanted to restructure Fitzerald's incentive-laden rookie contract because he had reached many of the benchmarks and was to receive $14.6 million in 2008 and just under $17.4 million in 2009.
Those figures left the Cardinals with hardly any room under the salary cap to sign free agents. In addition, the contract locks up Fitzgerald through 2011, when he still will be only 28 years old.
Boldin's deal, which runs through 2010, averages $4 million a year. He is to receive about $2.5 million this season.
Boldin said he will let his contract situation will have no effect on his performance.
"I mean, I do what I do, that's play football," he said. "For me, it's not a distraction at all."

All yous are doing are creating rumors, getting ur hopes up, and getting pissed off when it doesnt happen.

Lito Sheppard is still an Eagle

Everybody wrote him off. He was supposed to be gone. Did the eagles do the smart thing? Lito is a pro bowl player, much more valuable than a 2nd to 3rd round pick. So are the eagles gonna have the best cornerback tandem in the nfl or do they have something up their sleeve. They can keep sheppard, i heard he is upset with his contract, but i haven't heard that come from his mouth. We suddenly come back from getting no turnovers, and we have two corners who get a ton of them. So that can happen, or the Eagles think a wide receiver may become available. Maybe they believe that ocho stinko, anquan boldin or roy williams will become available. Eagles now have 2 first round picks and a pro bowl cornerback to offer. I think this is a huge win-win for the eagles and sometimes the best move is the one you don't make.

Birds fans: NOW we can get that #1 WR

You guys know I don't ever say something unless I truley believe it... I've never been for the WR rumors before the draft but read on....
Hmmm is Philadelphia the only city that realizes that our All-Pro CB Lito Sheppard is still an Eagle? I mean you can't find info anywhere about this. After long speculations for the last few months comming into the draft, the Eagles did not trade Lito Sheppard. YET.... What they did do however was trade out of the 19th pick for Carolina 1st round next year which will be a pretty good pick. Our Philadelphia Eagles now have some leverage Look at my scenarios..........

1st Scenario- (THE ONE WE ALL HOPE FOR) We now have both Lito Sheppard and two first rounds to dangle in front of any team with a #1 WR R. Williams, A.Bolden, C. Johnson
We keep one 1st round pick and trade Lito the a 1st for any of those guys and become the instant favorite out of the NFC EAST......... in addition WE WIN NOW

2nd Scenario- (Ehh not exactly what we want but it'll work) We keep Lito and our picks go into the season with whatever we have and have the best CB tadem in the NFL by far. The positive is we get to see what its like to have two #1 CBs on the same team the negative is they'll have to pick up for the slack the because the offense wont be as productive without a true force. The end result we have two 1st rounders for next yr and we still have a solid team that can compete for a superbowl

3rd Scenario-(This one is a bummer) We trade Lito for a future 2nd and a 4th make no strong additions and us Birds fans feel like we did last year after the draft.

I know you didn't expect me to be the one to say we can get a #1 WR but can you blame me the draft does this to people and at the end of the day I JUST WANNA WINNA

5 teams pursing Lito today

The New Orleans Saints and their second-round pick (No. 40 overall) in this weekend's draft have long been linked to the Giants and their double-fisted Super Bowl suite drinker Jeremy Shocker.

But now the Saints and that same second-round pick are linked to the Eagles and their obsolete cornerback Lito Sheppard, who surely won't be kept around given the arrival of Asante Samuel.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Saints are one of the five teams chasing Sheppard. Others include the Bucs and the Rams. However, the Rams are reluctant to give up their second-round pick, which is No. 33 overall.

As to the Saints, they can't trade the same pick twice (duh), so what are they up to? Our guess is that they're trying to play two NFC East rivals against each other, hoping that one of them takes the Saints' second-rounder in order to prevent the other from getting it.

Or maybe, as a reader suggested, the Saints are merely the straw man in a three-way trade. Maybe they'll get Sheppard with that second-round pick and then trade him straight up to the Giants for Shockey.

Redskins Give Up On Boldin

After numerous inquiries, the Redskins no longer anticipate dealing for Anquan Boldin or Chad Johnson on draft day, according to the Washington Post.

Washington appears to have focused its attention to three WR prospects: Malcolm Kelly, Limas Sweed, and Jordy Nelson. If Johnson, Boldin, or Roy Williams is traded, Philly and Dallas seem the most likely landing spots.

THIS IS MY OWN OPINION...SPEPPARD AND PICKS TO ARIZONA FOR BOLDIN...I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT HAPPEN BUT ITS NOT LIKELY BECAUSE IF IT HAPPENED SHEPPARD WOULD DEMAND A NEW CONTRACT AND ARIZONA IS NOT IN THE POSITION OR DO THEY HAVE THE MONEY TO GIVE A CONTRACT EXTENTION TO SHEPPARD WHO WILL DEMAND TOP OF THE MARKET CONTRACT.
chris mortenson of espn just reported that all three teams (arizona, cinci, and detroit) remain adamant about not trading their stud WRs, but that if any of these teams should pull the trigger, it would be cinci bc of the considerable drain chad has become on the coach, the QB, and the organization as a whole. but, it's basically all up in the air. he also went on to say that the eagles, redskins, and cowboys are the interested partners. so, the news is, there is no news. no one has a fcuking clue!! so, everyone chill out already! like mary said, no more drama...
