Frankie Edgar gets real on the subject of title shots in 2013, thinks he can get a shot with a win over Oliveira.

It seems odd that Frankie Edgar, a guy who has fought seven title fights in a row, and all to true number one contenders (at least in my opinion) would want to hope on the hype-train bandwagon as a way to get a title shot, but who am I to judge? We just got off UFC 159, where Chael Sonnen got a world title shot because he called out the champ. Chael didn’t have a light heavyweight win in over half a decade, was coming off a loss at middleweight and yet, there he was — in the main event and about thirty seconds away from having the title due to Bones’ broken toe. Sorry, I think I got off on a tangent there.

The fact is, we know Frankie Edgar is awesome, but a win over Charles Oliveira does not mean a title shot at featherweight again. Let’s be fair. Frankie, how about a Chad Mendes fight if you finish Charles in impressive fashion? That would be enough in my opinion to warrant another shot. Now granted, those fights that Frankie lost were damn close, but close only counts in horses...

Frankie Edgar Fan Friendly At UFC 159

Frankie Edgar is still a fan favorite for a reason, here he is at UFC 159 taking a picture with a fan wearing a bootleg UFC championship belt. Frankie should have grabbed it and let him know you can’t be over 25 wearing a fake strap like that. Hopefully the belt was for his kid.

Frankie Edgar Weighs In On GSP vs Diaz

Frankie Edgar gives his thoughts UFC 158 main event fight between welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz. Here are the former champs thoughts.
“I think they both come in with strong cardio, Georges is the superior athlete. I think Nick would want to try and pressure him on his feet as much as he can, try to avoid takedowns, but I think – Georges, no one does it better than him on taking people down and he’s got some of the best ground-and-pound too and you will see a lot of that utilized in this fight to get the win.”
Pretty standard thoughts here by Edgar. GSP will look to utilize his wrestling advantage like he always does but the thing about Diaz is he is dangerous in any situation. Can’t wait for this fight!

Jose Aldo Injury Caps Off Rough Year for Frankie Edgar

Frankie Edgar (Pictured) can’t wait to put 2012 in his rear-view mirror. After ending his 2011 campaign in championship style by solidifying his spot as the planet’s top lightweight, Edgar lost his UFC title to Benson Henderson this February and failed to recapture his crown in April’s instant rematch.
Both of his defeats to Bendo were of the controversial decision variety, particularly their last tango where most believed Edgar did more than enough to win. UFC president Dana White made it clear Edgar wouldn’t get another crack at the 155-pound hardware for quite some time, so “The Answer” begrudgingly decided to shed 10 pounds and transition to featherweight.
Lady Luck’s loyalty seemed to swing in Edgar’s favor once he made the move. He was granted an immediate title shot after Erik Koch was forced out of UFC 153 with an injury. Edgar was more than happy to slide in and challenge 145-pound king Jose Aldo for his crown on last-minute’s notice.
Unfortunately for Edgar, the injury bug came s

Frankie Edgar Moving to UFC Featherweight Division

As expected, former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar (Pictured) has finally decided to move to the featherweight division. “The Answer’s” transition was announced during this week’s edition of FUEL TV’s UFC Tonight.
Edgar is hoping to make his 145-pound debut in December. No opponent has been named.
After losing his lightweight belt to Benson Henderson at UFC 144 and failing to recapture the strap in their rematch earlier this month, UFC president Dana White made it clear Edgar wouldn’t get another crack at the 155-pound crown in quite some time.
White has been pushing Edgar to shed 10 pounds for over a year, but it’s easy to forget this is the same man that beat BJ Penn, who many believed was the division’s G.O.A.T. prior to facing Edgar, on back-to-back occasions. He also went on to knockout a much larger Gray Maynard in October, and both of his decision losses to Henderson were covered in controversy – particular Part II where most believed Edgar won.

UFC 150: Benson Henderson vs. Frankie Edgar II (Video Highlight)

For the umpteenth time, Frankie Edgar was involved in another too-close-to-call five-round affair. On Saturday night at UFC 150, “The Answer” appeared to discover the solution for Benson Henderson (Pictured).
However, when the verdict was read, Edgar found himself on the wrong end of a (46-49, 48-47, 48-47) split decision rendering.
Judges Mark Van Tine and Dave Hagan gave the first, third and fourth rounds to Henderson, while Tony Weeks awarded Edgar with every round but the opener. That means the only frames up for debate are the third and fourth.
As with most of Edgar’s battles, several of the stanzas were decided by the slimmest of margins.
According to FightMetric, the UFC’s official number crunchers, the scrap should have been ruled a 48-48 draw.
UFC 150 took place inside Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.

Henderson has Edgar's number again

The sequel certainly outpaced the original, but the ending was the same: Benson Henderson beat Frankie Edgar via a decision.

Henderson retained the lightweight belt he grasped in February's bout with Edgar with a majority decision Saturday night (46-49, 48-47, 48-47) in the main event of UFC 150 at Pepsi Center.

Each of the three judges gave the first round to Henderson and the second and fifth rounds to Edgar. The discrepancy in the scoring came in rounds three and four.

"Frankie is tough," said Henderson, who won the first fight with a unanimous decision. "Everybody knows he's tough. My hat's off to him, his team and his coaches."

The judge's decision was greeted with jeers inside the arena.

"I thought I had it," Edgar said.

Edgar just escaped the first round after Henderson applied the guillotine with 20 seconds left. Henderson also knocked Edgar to the mat with a sweeping kick earlier in the round.

Edgar rebounded in the second as he stunned Henderson w

UFC title belt doesn't alter Henderson's routine

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Five months ago, as he prepared to fight lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 144 in Japan, Benson Henderson was a man with nothing to lose.

His victory over Edgar changed all that. Henderson has plenty to lose as he prepares for a rematch with Edgar at UFC 150 in Denver on Aug. 11.

But don't think that going from the hunter to the hunted has dramatically altered Henderson or his approach as he prepares for a second fight with Edgar.

"Once you have that belt, there's a bull's-eye on your back," said Henderson, who hadn't held a title since late 2010 with World Extreme Cagefighting. "When you have that bull's-eye on your back, it's a scary feeling, but it's a good feeling, too. It's something you need, something you need to use to drive and motivate you."

Henderson, who makes his training home at the MMA Lab in Glendale, said he knows a title belt can change fighters. They can become hesitant or nervous, too conscious of their stat

Edgar excited about upcoming rematch

The "comeback" has always held a special place in American sports history. Whether it is a late-game drive against an unforgiving defense or a game-changing swing of momentum that helps close out a game in epic fashion, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat is the fabric legends are made from.

In the current era of mixed martial arts, you can't discuss the comeback without mentioning Frankie Edgar. The Toms River, N.J., native has provided some of the grittiest performances to date, proving heart and an unsinkable work ethic can overcome the odds and produce a champion. While his two fights with Gray Maynard may have put Edgar's determination on display, these days the comeback means something completely different to Edgar.

After his run as UFC lightweight champion was brought to a halt by Benson Henderson at UFC 144, "The Answer" is now seeking to regain the title he fought so valiantly to retain. Edgar came out on the losing end of a hard-fought five-round affair, and rathe

Dana White: Rematch Not Looking Good for Frankie Edgar, but Title Shot is

UFC president Dana White hasn’t been shy about expressing his desire for former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar (Pictured) to shed 10 pounds and drop to the featherweight division. While Edgar remains hell-bent on arranging an immediate sequel with Benson Henderson, White holds all the cards and the results are not what “The Answer” wants to hear.
“I think everybody is pretty clear on what I’d like to see him do, I’d like to see him go down to his natural weight of 145 pounds,” White stated during today’s press conference. “There’s no doubt, again, when you talk about respecting a guy, I have so much respect for Frankie Edgar and what he’s been able to do at 155 pounds – because he had to, because there wasn’t a 145 pound division.
“I had a good talk with him yesterday, we’ll see what happens.”
While White didn’t specifically state he wouldn’t set up Edgar vs. Henderson II, the writing appears to be all over the Octagon wall. The good news for Edgar is that if he decides

Edgar ready to endure another test

Maybe Frankie Edgar's first MMA defeat should have occurred sooner.

Edgar lost to Gray Maynard -- the first of three bouts between the two combatants -- in his fourth UFC event, in April 2008. There went his perfect record, eight-career opening victories anchored by several wins at smaller promotions in his native New Jersey.

"You either bounce back or spiral downward," said Ricardo Almeida, a former UFC fighter to whom Edgar turned after that loss via a unanimous decision. "He rededicated himself, which is a testament not only to Frankie but the friends and family he has around him. When he walked into the room at our first meeting, I asked him what his goals were in MMA. He said, `I want to be a UFC champ.'"

Three victories and then a decision over B.J. Penn later, Edgar became the UFC lightweight champ in April 2010. Edgar could become the first fighter in UFC history to defend the lightweight belt a fourth time when he faces Benson Henderson at UFC 144 in Japan on Saturday.
