Rolling Stones to Headline 2013 Glastonbury Festival

Rolling Stone Magazine recently reported the Rolling Stones will continue their 50th anniversary celebrations by playing 18 North American shows kicking off in May. The band will keep the party going after that: they just announced on their official app they will headline the Glastonbury festival on Saturday, June 29th.
“We all had such a ball last year, and the energy between the band is so good, we can”t wait to play Glastonbury,” Keith Richards said in a statement. “See you on a summer’s day in England.”
Other acts on the bill for the huge long-running festival, which runs from June 26th to the 30th at Worthy Farm in Somerset, England, include the Arctic Monkeys, Mumford & Sons, Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, Smashing Pumpkins, Elvis Costello, Portishead, Public Enemy, Nas, Tyler the Creator, Alabama Shakes, Jake Bugg and more.

Mercy Hangover Remedy

Hangovers. They suck, right?
Many tailgaters often refer to this time of the year, the time between when football ends and baseball begins, to be the “tailgating hangover”. Hyperbole aside, we’re talking about real a hangover. The kind that makes your head hurt, you have sensitivity to light and noise, etc. More importantly, we want to talk about preventing hangovers while still being able to drink and party like Keith Richards.
Prior to the Super Bowl we were contacted by the folks over at Mercy Hangover Prevention asking us to tell our readers about this new product. Seeing how Super Bowl Sunday is notorious for being a heavy alcohol consumption day, seems like a perfect fit to give a little publicity to a drink that claims to prevent hangovers.
But because we are Tailgating Ideas and not some fly by night tailgating blog that will cut and paste any old press release that manages to get through our spam filters, we told the folks we needed to test it for ourselves before offering...

Los Angeles Lakers: Worst Super Team Ever

The Miami Heat beat the Los Angeles Lakers tonight showing why they are the real super team in the NBA. Back when the schedule came out in August, one would have reason to believe this matchup was a true battle of the titans. The X-Men vs. the Avengers. The Jets vs. the Sharks. Beatles vs. Stones.
However, this Los Angeles team is the direct opposite of the Showtime Lakers so many thought they would be with the acquisition of dominant big man Dwight Howard and veteran point guard Steve Nash. If the playoffs started today, Miami would be at the top spot in the East while the Lakers…wait a minute, they wouldn’t even make the playoffs in the West. Most of us wouldn’t bet against a team featuring Kobe, D-12, Nash and Gasol in the starting lineup. But with a 17-22 record, the Lakers resemble the Clippers of the last twenty odd years instead of a team only a few seasons removed from back to back championships.
Despite the erratic coaching change five games into the season, Mike D’Antoni h...

Hunter S. Thompson’s daily routine would kill any person not named Keith Richards

How Hunter S. Thompson lived to be 67-years-old amazes me even more after reading this.
Yeah, famed author Hunter S. Thompson lived life by his own rules, and that list above shows us that his rules for daily living included three basic necessities of life—drugs, drugs, and more drugs. I do love his food choices though. Fettucine Alfredo, cheeseburgers, cole slaw, onion rings, Chivas infused snow cones, and a grapefruit pretty well covers all the basic food groups.
I don’t suggest people try this at home, as this daily routine is Not Suitable for Life. And while Hunter S. Thompson may be deceased, there’s little doubt in my mind that his liver still surges with raw power somewhere in the universe, because an entity that strong, that powerful, and able to handle that much cocaine, can’t be destroyed by anything man-made.

Los Angeles Dodgers hope to show the Rolling Stones were wrong

Maybe Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were wrong. The Los Angeles Dodgers may prove you can get what you want and what you need. The only question left is whether Dodgers fans will get satisfaction.
Ryu Hyun-jin pitched for Korea in the 2009 World Baseball Classic at Dodger Stadium.
After the 2012 season ended, Dodgers GM Ned Colletti made it clear he would be looking for a couple of top-notch starters. Colletti first got what he wanted when he reached an agreement with the grand prize of this winter’s free agent list, Zack Greinke. And faced with the prospects of a soon-to-be 37-year old Ted Lilly and 34-year old Chris Capuano as the lefthanded starters who would follow Clayton Kershaw, the team certainly needed a southpaw to slot in behind the right-handed Greinke.
On Monday, the Dodgers introduced starting pitcher Ryu Hyun-Jin(rhymes with Gin). Say who? Well, considering the team is paying the man $36 million dollars over the next 6 years, it might be a good idea to learn who ...

Releford surprises with big night in win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- He's Bill Wyman. Travis Releford prefers to stand in the back, unnoticed, given a choice. He's there to hold down the backbeat, to blend into the shadows, to be heard as opposed to being seen.

"I have to be aggressive," Releford, Kansas' 6-foot-6 senior wing man, said after his Jayhawks stomped Washington State, 78-41, in the semifinals of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic. "Coach (Bill Self) wants me to continue doing that. But my role is to be one of the great defenders on our team."

Which he does, as he has for years, without complaint. Or, for that matter, much in the way of glory. His role with the Kansas men's basketball team, traditionally, has been not unlike the part Wyman, the bassist for the Rolling Stones, played for all those years, thumping from left of nowhere, practically hiding behind drummer Charlie Watts' kit.

Wyman had Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in front of him to play to the crowd and get the headlines; Releford had Thomas Robi

I See A Jaguar And I Want It Painted Blackmon

Before get start with the lead, can someone please explain to me what was up with the Tight End explosion this week? Garrett Graham, Benjamin Watson, and Marcedes Lewis all scored not one but two touchdowns apiece and unless you’re playing in a 20 team league with 10 flex positions, no one got in on any of that. Needless to say, the Fantasy Gods had a cruel sense of humor for most fantasy owners today which leads us to our main man, Justin Blackmon. Coming into the day, Blackmon had 250 yards on 26 receptions and at least 20 nonchalant attempts at the 59 targets he’d garnered through 9 games this season. For a wide receiver that was drafted in 5th overall, that stat line is not just bad but screams ‘bust’. Not at one point this year has Blackmon looked good. He’s looked lackadaisical, timid and many times unwilling to play over the middle. To tie things back in with the title, Justin has looked like Keith Richards out on the field: the only signs that he’s been actually alive...

The Rolling Stones’ HBO Documentary “Crossfire Hurricane” Trailer

The Rolling Stones, the rock ‘n’ roll icons who have defined creativity, daring and durability, are to be chronicled in a kaleidoscopic new film that will debut Nov. 15 on HBO, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, HBO’s president of Programming. The film documents the key periods in their career and their incredible adventures.

CROSSFIRE HURRICANE, directed by Brett Morgen (The Kid Stays In The Picture), provides a remarkable new perspective on the Stones’ unparalleled journey from blues-obsessed teenagers in the early ‘60s to rock royalty. It’s all here in panoramic candour, from the Marquee Club to Hyde Park, from Altamont to “Exile,” from club gigs to stadium extravaganzas. In addition to the U.S. premiere on HBO, in the UK the film will receive a theatrical release and can be seen by Stones fans in selected cinemas across the country in the fall. It will also broadcast on BBC 2 later in the year.
With never-before-seen footage and fresh insights from the band themselves,...

Happy Anniversary: The Beatles

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the Beatles first single Love Me Do. The rest is history…The song was originally released in the United Kingdom where it peaked at #17. It was released in the U.S. in 1964 where it became a #1 hit. The song played no role in “Beatlemania” which launched in 1963 with She Loves You and I Want To Hold Your Hand along with several appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show.Over in a slightly parallel universe, the Rolling Stones had released their first single (a cover of Chuck Berry’s Come On) in July of the same year. According to Keith Richards in his recent book, eventually the Stones Keith and Mick Jagger) and the Beatles (John Lennon) would discuss when to release singles so as not to compete with one another…To see more Beatles 45 covers, click here.
