Jets owner to Geno Smith: 'Welcome to the competition'

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson had a few words for Geno Smith Tuesday preparing him for what lies ahead in Jetsland.

Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News spoke with Johnson at the NFL's Career Development Symposium in Philadelphia and relayed this simple message to Smith:

"Welcome to the competition," said Johnson. "It’s going to be fun."

Is that Tina Turner's "We Don't Need Another Hero" I hear someone queuing up?
It's only been ten days since the Jets selected Smith in the second round, but Johnson made it clear that he’s happy to have the polarizing signal caller on his team. Smith has already endured his fair share of criticism in the wake of slipping out of the first round but the best is yet to come.
"He was the highest rated player (left) on our board," Johnson said. “I’m extremely happy to have him…. Great body of work. He was a gifted athlete from Day One. I guess they identified him very, very early when he

10 Bold Predictions for 2013: The Guys We Promise to have a HUGE Year

As part of our preview for the upcoming 2012 season, we’ll be doing a 10 Bold Predictions for 2013 series that will be featured between now and Opening Day. Our fifth prediction: these guys will be monsters in 2013.
This is a tough post to actually structure. I want to just bullet all these guys and let it ride, but I feel you’re owed more than that. These guys are going to have really good to absolutely monstrous 2013 seasons. Sure it’s mostly on a gut feeling, and no I haven’t reviewed their fly ball rate or their poor BABIP from last season that’s sure to rise.
You’re just going to have to take my word for it on these guys. And feel free to bookmark it and come back to it when the season is over. These guys are either going to become household names or have a spike like Ian Desmond did last season before tapering off slowly, or this season will be the one anomaly on the back of their baseball card. And we’re not going to use any guys who are already studs either, because that’s ...

Ratings Dip, Free Furniture For Ravens Fans And More: KSK Kontent Klearinghouse

Empire State Building bathed in Ravens team colors after the Super Bowl. Via Philips.
The Super Bowl ratings were up, until they eventually ended down in third place all-time behind last year’s Super Bowl and 2010′s Super Bowl XLV. 108.4 million people tuned in last night, it the numbers dipped due to the blackout.
The Parents Television Council is upset that CBS didn’t immediately dump the audio when Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco exclaimed, “f—— awesome” on the field after the game. Why the Parents Television Council cannot just employ my own parents’ rule of, “Just because a grown-up can say it, doesn’t mean you can and some words are just never appropriate,” and handing their kids an LP of George Carlin’s Class Clown which has “Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television” as its last track is beyond me.
Roberto Luongo Mocks Tim Thomas on Twitter?

Roberto Luongo and Tim Thomas probably aren’t the best of buds.
The two goalies started a nice little public feud during the 2011 Stanley Cup run and it’s turned the young Boston-Vancouver rivalry into something more than just one team crushing the other on the hockey world’s biggest stage.
On Wednesday, a Twitter account believed to be run by the Canucks netminder, tweeted out a political message directed toward “TT” — and it’s safe to think he wasn’t referring to Tina Turner. Check out the tweet below.
Some people say 4 more years of Obama. I look at it more like 4 more years of disgruntled goalie politically charged Facebook rants! #I❤TT

Skateboarding, No Longer Just A White Mans Sport!

Tell me if this sounds familiar: “Skateboarding is for white boys”. This has been the persona since the late 60′s when skateboarding hit the california area like Ike did Tina Turner. Skateboarding was obviously designed for white boys because white boys did it. There’s obviously no logic behind this reason, yet we’ve lived this way for over 50 years. It didn’t hurt the stereotype when white guys like Tony Hawk, Bam Margera, and Rob Dyrdek took the sport and made it even more popular in the late 90′s. I personally owned Tony Hawk’s underground skateboarding for the Gamecube (the original one)when I was little. True enough, these guys were featured in the video game, and they were great to play with. Ever notice that there was no black guy in that game. Even the background scenes featured no black guys. Now, before I carry on, I can already hear somebody who’s going to read this, assuming that I’m headed towards a tirade about the oppression of black people. That is far from the trut...

2012 PLAYOFFS: A Penguins Overview

Forget who the Pens are playing in the first round for a quick minute. Time to look at the big picture on the eve of the upcoming playoff season.

--This is the best time of year. The morning after a win makes you feel like someone in the "AFTER" photos in a Proactiv commercial. The morning after a loss is comparable to the feeling when Wayne realized Cassandra was boning Christopher Walken.

We as fans have little to no control over these emotions, either. We've battled each other, we've battled other fans. All we can do is know they're coming and prepare for them. The goal is to get back to the Boulevard on some unrealistic warm June day and watch the Cup come down the street. Whatever complaints we've had, chirping we've done. It is on hold.

Christian Louboutin Sale, bites, and limited-edition Louboutins drew San Francisco’s fashion bloggerati to the Union Square Neiman Marcus store on March 15 for the private unveiling of the celebrated French designer’s 20th anniversary capsule collection, available for sale on the Christian Louboutin online boutique and in stores exclusively at 10 Neiman Marcus locations nationwide.
The invitation-only event, held in the second level women’s shoe salon, gave bloggers and select shoppers the chance to preview 20 unique styles inspired by 20 years of iconic shoe designs, which run the gamut from the pointy-toe bejeweled “Pigalove” flats to the soaring 6-inch fringed “Highness Tina” boots designed in homage to diva muse Tina Turner.
Despite the drizzly weather and a packed Thursday-night fashion itinerary, Twin Peaks resident Jeanne Chan, the blogger behind Shop Sweet Things, made it a point to drop by for a peek.

Great Scott! -or- Why I Support the Individual Mandate

The idea behind insurance is that you pay a premium and if things go pear-shaped, there’s a safety net there to catch you. It may not pay everything but it will pay enough that you won’t be ruined. This is true for vehicles, this is true for health care and this is true for the guy who got his crotch insured.
The thing about insurance is that it works best with larger economies of scale. Sure, there are the one-off specialty policies for Bruce Springsteen’s voice or Tina Turner’s legs but the vast majority of insurance policies cover things like health care or vehicle damage. The larger the pot, the lower your premium because the risk gets spread out. That’s why Obama made the “individual mandate” the centerpiece of his health care legislation.
For me, this is the most frustrating aspect of the legal challenge to the legislation. The main challenge lies in the interpretation of the Commerce clause of the Constitution but, like many clauses in the Constitution, this can and ha...

Andrew Luck Power Rankings, Week 11: Colts Are Simply The Best (At Losing)

As the beautiful Tina Turner once sang, “You’re Simply the Best.” All that’s missing is the fat lady singing with her, because this competition is pretty much over. The Colts took a commanding two-game lead this weekend, making them the far and away favorite to land Sir Andrew Luck.
The Colts had their easiest game on the schedule against the Jaguars at home and like they have in previous weeks came up very flat. The Colts have showed no signs of life at all since a close loss to Pittsburgh in week 3. At this point, 0-16 looks very realistic.
The one and only thing that would stop the Colts from landing Andrew Luck is Peyton Manning. Even that however seems to be a stretch however because some are even suggesting the Colts might attempt to trade Peyton if they draft Luck.
The Colts turned to Dan Orlovsky late in the game that could have provided a spark for the team but obviously did not. Orlovsky is most well known for not knowing where the lines of the end zone start and stop...

I Know It's Only Rock N Roll But I Like It: NFL Week 9 Recap

Green Bay 45, San Diego 38 – My Hero By the Foo Fighters
Aaron Rodgers is the best player in the NFL right now. This isn’t a debate or a topic up for discussion. This is a fact.
Aaron Rodgers put up a passer rating of 145.8 vs. SD, his 8th straight game at 110+, an NFL record streak for a single season. Rodgers was nothing but surgical once again as he connected with 4 different players on TD passes. As Tina Turner would say: "He's simply the best, better then all the rest!"
As if the Packers offense needed any help, the defense helped up putting up 2 pick 6’s.
Philip Rivers played how he has all season, put up all kinds of yards and played a decent game. However, turnovers continue to plague him as he threw 3 INT’s. Rivers almost lead the Chargers back after recovering an onside kick, but their final rally fell short.
It was an exciting shout out in San Diego, but no one beats Aaron Rodgers. At least not this year as the Pack improves to 8-0.
