A couple of weeks ago, Gundy declared that Clint Chelf would be his starting quarterback this season. “Chelf is our starter,” he proclaimed. “He takes all the reps with the (first team) right now. Those guys (J.W. Walsh and Wes Lunt) compete out there, but I don’t necessarily feel like there’s a battle out there to start the game.” Then, last week Gundy said that “we haven’t necessarily said anything about the first game of the season. Yeah, it did not go well. Granted, the fist bump is not the high-five, or as Jerry Seinfeld once referred to it, the lowest form of male primate ritual. Still, there is no reason why two men should not be able to execute the same hand-based greeting simultaneously. That is, if one guy sees the fist bump coming, the other should be able to adapt, even if he was going with the handshake move, on the fly.
