Video: Craig Anderson high-sticks Adam Henrique

It's understandable when goaltenders get frustrated because no one is clearing the crease for them. When an opposing team's forward parks themselves right in front of your goalie, you're supposed to move that player -- and don't be surprised if the goaltender goes ahead and does it for you if you don't. Craig Anderson found himself in that position Friday night against the New Jersey Devils, with Adam Henrique blocking his view. Anderson cleared his line of sight, but probably not in the most appropriate way possible:

Ow. No call was made on that play, despite the fact that high-sticking with the butt-end of your stick like that is a misconduct. It was a pretty subtle jab, and no one expects a goaltender to be the one to do it either, so it makes sense that it flew under the radar of the refs.

Now that everyone else has seen it, will Anderson get a call from the department of player safety? Who the heck knows. Taylor Hall didn't for his lumberj...

You Make The Call, Did Craig Anderson Butt-End Adam Henrique?

from Brian Stubits of Eye On Hockey,

As part of a chaotic sequence around the Senators' net on Friday night, Anderson was peering into the corner following the puck while Henrique was skating right next to him. Slyly, Anderson stuck out his stick and, with the butt end, caught the face of Henrique.

At the same time, David Clarkson and Zack Smith were having a fight behind the net. There was more pushing and shoving going on, so Anderson's high stick wasn't seen or called by the referees.

Devils' Henrique injured in AHL game

New Jersey Devils center Adam Henrique is going to have a procedure to repair a ligament in his left thumb after being hurt playing for the team's AHL affiliate.

Albany Devils general manager Chris Lamoriello said Wednesday that Henrique will have a procedure on his ulmar collateral ligament Thursday. He is expected to be sidelined up to six weeks.

Henrique, assigned the Devils' top minor league team at the beginning of the NHL lockout, was injured in Sunday's game against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in Atlantic City, N.J.

The 22-year-old had 16 goals and 35 assists as a rookie last season. He added five goals and eight assists in the Devils' run to the Stanley Cup Finals, including three game-winning goals. The biggest was his overtime tally that eliminated the New York Rangers in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Adam Henrique: A clutch hockey player

New Jersey Devils super rookie Adam Henrique has shown the hockey world that he has been blessed with the ability to be a clutch hockey player. The 22-year-old Brantford, Ontario, native has only four National Hockey League playoff goals to his name and his young career. However, two of those tallies have been series winners against the Florida Panthers and Washington Capitals. And last night it was Henrique who helped New Jersey avoid a sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2012 Stanley Cup final. Throughout his hockey career, Adam Henrique has been a clutch hockey player. In junior hockey playing with the Windsor Spitfires Henrique shared in the success of back-to-back Memorial Cups. Henrique hopes he can continue to be clutch on Hockey's biggest stage and help the New Jersey Devils achieve what seems to be impossible, a 3-0 comeback in the Stanley Cup final, something that has only been recorded once in history.Game 5 is set to go on Saturday at 8 PM Eastern time...

Henrique shining in Devils' playoff run

NEWARK -- It has been quite the rookie season for the New Jersey’s Adam Henrique, culminating in a chance to win the Stanley Cup.Henrique has quickly made himself known in the playoffs scoring two series-winning goals for the Devils. In the first round he scored the winning goal in overtime of Game 7 against the Florida Panthers; in the Eastern Conference Finals, he scored 1:03 into overtime against the New York Rangers to claim the series in Game 6. All of this comes on the heels of a strong regular season in which Henrique had 16 goals and 51 points in 74 games, earning a nomination for the Calder Trophy in the process. The rookie attributes his quick maturation to the players he has had around him and the organization treating him right since Day 1. “When I first came in everybody treated me very well,” Henrique told reporters. “The staff helped me go out tremendously and all the players in the room have been great to me throughout the whole year. There is a big reason why my ...

Henrique OT goal puts Devils in Final

Devils rookie Adam Henrique was 4 years old in 1994, when New Jersey blew a 3-2 lead in games to New York in the Eastern Conference final, allowing the rival Rangers to continue on a Stanley Cup run while the Devils and their fans seethed -- or wept -- from across the Hudson.

The Devils have seen better days in the wake of that '94 heartbreak, winning three Stanley Cups in the 18 years since, the first coming the following year.

Still, despite all of the success New Jersey has found over the past two decades, there's always been something of a score to settle with their cross-river rivals -- and Henrique was the guy who finally exorcised those demons.

There he was at the Prudential Center on Friday night, poking and prodding at Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist in overtime. There he was, scoring the game-winner 1:03 into the extra period to give the Devils a 3-2 Game 6 victory over New York, eliminating the top-seeded Rangers and sending the Devils to their first Stanley Cup Final since 2003.

Devils' Henrique quietly in Calder race

Move over Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. You're not the only rookie in contention for this year's Calder Trophy anymore. Before Nugent-Hopkins even played his first full season in the Western Hockey League, New Jersey Devil Adam Henrique was already making a name for himself in Canada, hoisting the Memorial Cup with the Windsor Spitfires for the first time. The following year, Henrique won another Cup with the Spitfires, playing a pivotal role in the championship win with 25 points in 19 playoff games.Henrique may not have been a No. 1 overall draft pick -- in fact, he wasn't even drafted in the first round -- but the first-year forward has become a huge part of his team's success. The New Jersey Devils selected Henrique in the third round in 2008 with the 82nd overall pick. Henrique broke out after his draft selection, winning two consecutive Memorial Cups and experiencing his best junior season in his final year of eligibility, scoring 77 points in 56 points during the regula...
