Yet Another Hot Take on Ryan Miller's Potential Departure

Friday night, the Sabres closed out another season of spectacular failure. They did it with Ryan Miller in net, possibly for the last time.

Miller has long been a player who draws attention to himself, be it on the ice or in the locker room with his sometimes emotional, rarely uninteresting interviews. So naturally, the notion that Friday may have been Miller’s last game in a Sabre uniform had Sabre Nation buzzing. Lots of intelligent opinions have been put forth in recent days across blogs and Twitter, and here, I will attempt to give you my own (although I make no promises of its intelligence).

In short, I have very mixed emotions about this.

I used to believe (as recently as February) that there were untouchables on this Sabres team. Vanek, Myers, Pominville, and Miller were players I’d have considered off-limits, guys who a Stanley Cup-winning team could (and should) be built around. It was unlikely to me that Darcy Regier could flip any of these players for a...

GARTH: Play Hackett

Necessity is the mother of invention.

Amerks head coach Chadd Cassidy has to invent a solution to his team's lack of goal tending. and quickly, or else his team will travkl home in a two games to none hole.

Amerks love save and team MVP David Leggio made 12 stops on 17 shots face in Saturday's 6-3 loss in game one at Toronto. That's bad goal tending no matter how you slice it.

Tonight, the focus shifts to the kids that Buffalo traded their captain for.

Johann Larsson will make his debut in Rochester. He will center for Zemgus Girgensons and Jacob Lagace for the Amerks. Matt Hackett will back-up David Leggio.

The Sabres also received a first rounder and a second rounder from Minnesota in...

Northeast Preview: Buffalo Sabres

Here we go, 3 days left until the Bruins drop the puck and we're headed into the meat of the Northeast Division. The Buffalo Sabres, one of DOY's most bitter rivals. The rivalry between the Bruins and the Sabres have been well documented over the past few season, culminating in Milan Lucic absolutely running the **** over Ryan Miller. Miller then calls Lucic a piece of ****, Brendan Shanahan sits on his hands, Lindy cries that it's open season on goalies, Lucic beats the **** out of Patrick Kaleta and the Sabres eventually miss the playoffs completely.

So it's well documented that the Sabres (who many believed would win the Northeast Division) underachieved last season.

I didn't watch the Bills game today, but was surprised to see they kept it close.

I wanted to touch on the Amerks quick. They used three third period goals last night to defeat Syracuse.

For the first time in 36 games for the Amerks, it wasn't David Leggio starting in goal.

Connor Knapp made his pro debut against the Bulldogs and looked as if he would get the win. But Hamilton scored four times in the third period and ended up winning 4-3. Knapp made 30 saves on the night.

It's too bad Rochester fell apart in the third period.

The Amerks fell to the Marlies this evening by a 3-1 score.

It was nothing close to the offensive shootout in last night's game against Syracuse. Marcus Foligno had the only Rochester goal and David Leggio made 34 of 37 saves on the night.

Sabres sign two free-agent forwards

The Buffalo Sabres have signed two free-agent forwards, Mark Mancari and Kevin Porter, and re-signed minor league goalie David Leggio each to one-year contracts.

Mancari re-joins the Sabres after spending last year in the Vancouver Canucks' organization. He had no points in six games with Vancouver and spent the rest of the season in the minors. Selected by Buffalo in the seventh-round of the 2004 draft, Mancari had three goals and 10 assists in 36 games with the Sabres.

Porter has 25 goals and 20 assists in 163 career NHL games over five seasons split between Phoenix and Colorado. He played at Michigan and was college hockey's 2008 Hobey Baker award winner.

Leggio had a 28-24-2 record and led the AHL with 1,721 saves with Rochester, the Sabres farm team.

Brodziak scores twice to put Minnesota back into 1st place in 4-2 home win over New Jersey

A few years ago I used to do an annual series on the Best and Worst Fans of the NHL. I usually timed it right around late August, prior to the start of NHL training camp. In my first edition back in 2008 I rated the New Jersey Devils near the bottom. One of my qualifiers that a team's relative success was factored into my fan ratings. So if you had a successful team but didn't draw well you were going to get hammered in my final rankings. The Devils were and still are a great example of a team that has been fairly successful but has been milquetoast to pathetic at the gate. The backlash my assessment caused really surprised me. Apart from a fusilade of predictable insults levied in my direction, was a huge plethora of excuses why fans weren't showing up to the games (everything from the arena being located in a bad neighborhood, parking issues, being in a saturated NHL market, and high ticket prices). Yet few could explain why a team that had a good tradition of ...
