Kilpatrick will return to UC for senior season

Happy (whatever holiday is next), Mick Cronin.
Word of Cronin's gift became official Wednesday when the Cincinnati coach announced that Kilpatrick will return to school for his senior season. The Bearcats' leading scorer and best player said it wasn't an easy decision, but that it was the best one.I want to thank my coach and thank my parents for helping me through this process, UC let's do it 1 more time! BEARCATNATION DREAMCHASERS Sean Kilpatrick (@SeanKilpatrick_) April 10, 2013He wants to be the first person in his family to get his college degree, and he has basketball goals, too. He'll enter his final season as Cincinnati's 16th all-time leading scorer and should have the green light to climb the charts. He averaged 17 points per game last season.
Wednesday night the Bearcats held their season-ending banquet, and Cronin announced Kilpatrick -- a two-time pick as second-team All-Big East -- will be a team captain next season.

A Gunner Seeking Ammunition
After starting off the season 16-3, the Bearcats have been fallen off the beaten path in a big way. At 20-10 (8-9 in conference play) for the season, they’re still likely to make the NCAA Tournament, but their seeding will be very much determined by what type of output they put forth in the Big East Tournament.
As has been the trend all season, Cincinnati will run their offense through sharpshooter Sean Kilpatrick, a 2-guard with the capability of playing the 3 as well. Kilpatrick is not just a versatile scorer, but also a capable ball handler whose teammates look to him to dictate the offens...

Kilpatrick leads No. 24 Cincy over Rutgers

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Sean Kilpatrick scored 19 points and No. 24 Cincinnati intensified its defense in the second half, overcoming a 10-point deficit to beat Rutgers 62-54 on Wednesday night for a sweep of their season series.
Cincinnati (17-4, 5-3 Big East) blocked eight shots, forced 21 turnovers and held the Scarlet Knights to 24 points in the second half. The Bearcats also won at Rutgers 68-58 on Jan. 12.
Myles Mack scored 15 points to lead the Scarlet Knights (12-8, 3-6), who have lost four in a row with an offense that can't find any consistency.
The Bearcats trailed by 10 early in the second half and didn't lead until Kilpatrick's fastbreak layup put them ahead with 11 minutes left. Point guard Cashmere Wright hit a 3-pointer that put them ahead to stay.
Cincinnati had eight days off following its 57-55 loss at Syracuse, giving Wright more time to recover from a sprained right knee.

No. 11 Cincinnati beats UALR behind Kilpatrick

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Sean Kilpatrick scored 10 of his 18 points in the second half, and No. 11 Cincinnati set a school record with 23 steals Thursday night, emerging from a sloppy start for an 87-53 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock.

The Bearcats (8-0) have started with eight straight wins for the 15th time in school history and the second time in three seasons.

Playing with their highest ranking since they were No. 11 at end of the 2003-04 season, the Bearcats threw the ball away early, prompting coach Mick Cronin to substitute for all five starters.

The Bearcats quickly wore down the Trojans (7-4), who had a season-high 32 turnovers, 18 in the opening half alone. Cincinnati's steals topped the previous school record by three. The teams combined for 54 field goals and 49 turnovers.

Three players finished with 10 points for Arkansas-Little Rock.

Bearcats flying high behind junior G Kilpatrick

Sean Kilpatrick led Cincinnati in scoring last season, but now he's taken his game to a whole new level.
The junior standout tries to keep rolling as the No. 22 Bearcats host Campbell on Tuesday night.
After averaging 14.3 points and helping Cincinnati reach the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament, Kilpatrick appears more than capable of carrying the team even farther in 2012-13.
The 6-foot-4 swingman has scored 49 points in his last 51 minutes, posting 20 in last Tuesday's 102-60 win over Mississippi Valley State and a career-high 29 during Sunday's 93-39 rout of North Carolina A&T.
Kilpatrick went 10 of 15 from the field against the Aggies, making a career-high eight 3-pointers on 12 attempts.
"None of that surprises me because his preparation every day for every game is as good as I've ever been around as a coach. It's off the charts," coach Mick Cronin said.

Kilpatrick has 29, No. 24 Cincy beats NC A&T 93-39

Forty-nine points in his last 51 minutes. Sean Kilpatrick seems to like Cincinnati's new up-tempo offense.

The junior guard scored a career-high 29 points on Sunday, hitting eight shots from behind the arc, and the 24th-ranked Bearcats dominated from the outset of a 93-39 victory over North Carolina A&T.

The Bearcats (3-0) opened with a 14-point run that featured four 3s by Kilpatrick, who got wide-open shots all around the arc. Cincinnati's lead never slipped below double digits. It wound up as the Bearcats' most lopsided win since 1994.

And Kilpatrick was right in the middle of it.

''None of that surprises me,'' coach Mick Cronin said. ''His preparation every day for every game is as good as I've ever been around as a coach. It's off the charts.''

Kilpatrick had 21 points in the opening half and matched his career best with six 3-pointers. He made more shots from beyond the arc than the Aggies (1-3) did overall in the half - NC A&T was 4 of 30

Kilpatrick growing into Bearcats' leadership

When Sean Kilpatrick buried a 3-pointer with 2.5 seconds remaining to clinch a victory at Connecticut, it earned him plenty of play on the national highlight reels. But during the streak in which the Bearcats won 10 of 11 games, the game-winner at UConn was just one of many big shots for the sophomore guard. Kilpatrick has provided UC with plenty of spark at both ends of the floor.

Kilpatrick scored 12 points in Saturday's loss at West Virginia. It was his 18th double-figure scoring game this season and 35th of his career.

Since the Xavier brawl, Kilpatrick has averaged 17 points and nine rebounds to spearhead UC's resurgence. He also has 19 assists in that stretch and has hit at least one 3-pointer in each of those games, and in 19 straight contests overall.

Head coach Mick Cronin also noted the defensive play of Kilpatrick, who helped shut down Hollis Thompson in the second half of a win at Georgetown.

"That's where he's really evolving into an all-around player," Cronin said.
