Pittsburgh Steelers to Meet with Three Free Agents This Week

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be meeting with three free agents this week. Based on the Steelers history they won’t be signing any of these players unless they agree to very cap friendly deals, but the Steelers are showing their concern with two areas of the team.
The first two players they are bringing in are middle linebackers which shows a concern with the depth behind Larry Foote and Lawrence Timmons. Stevenson Sylvester is not expected back at this point and Sean Spence, the Steelers 2012 third round pick, may never play football again because of a major knee injury.
Therefore the Steelers are expected to meet with Dan Connor and Moise Fokou. Both players are 27 years old and neither has held a full time starting position for an entire season so far in the NFL. Both players would be added purely as depth behind Foote and Timmons at this point with a chance to get playing time if they perform well in training camp.
As of now, however, the most promising young inside linebacker on...

Steelers Sign LB Brian Rolle To Reserve/Future Contract On Wednesday

The Pittsburgh Steelers have added yet another player to their offseason roster on Wednesday as linebacker Brian Rolle was signed on Wednesday to a reserve/future contact.

Rolle was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, where he was a two-year starter at middle linebacker.

During his rookie season Rolle started 13 games for the Eagles and recorded 63 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble. In 2012 Rolle played in the first four games with the Eagles before being released on Oct. 2 after recording only 4 tackles.

Eagles Scapegoat the Wrong Man; Make Brian’s Head Rolle

Eagles kicker Alex Henery
The Eagles were downright terrible on the kick coverage Sunday night against the Giants making returner, David Wilson, look a lot like Deon Sanders on ‘prime time’ television. He averaged 36.2 yards on 6 returns for 217 yards, which gave the Giants great field position to start their drives.
Fortunately the Eagles defense was able to play well enough despite the continuous hole they were put into. After it was all said and done, they were able to prevail 19-17, but a strange turn of events happened today after Andy Reid watched the game film.
Linebacker Brian Rolle was cut for his apparent poor performance on the kick coverage team. Rolle started the last 13 games at weak side LB last season after showing a lot of toughness and coverage skills. At 5’10″, he was a sixth round draft pick out of Ohio State, who took over after the higher drafted Casey Matthews couldn’t handle the job. He lost his starting job after the third preseason game and was moved to special teams.

Brian Rolle reacts to his release via Twitter

Social media has taken much of the mystery out of professional sports. While we’ve imagined what athletes must think and feel as they experience some of the unpleasantness of the business, we can witness the reaction in real time.
Some display anger. Some grow silent. Brian Rolle reacted with a display of faith in himself and a higher being.

We can all imagine how having an embarrassing occurrence in your professional life being fired broadcast to the public would feel like. I can assure you that my words would not be suitable for print. Rolle has consistently displayed a desire to improve upon setbacks faced by himself or the Eagles team. In the end it didn’t work out, but mad respect to him on how he’s handled it publicly. Best of luck to Brian Rolle as he enters the next chapter of his NFL career.

Eagles Release Rolle, Add LB

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced today that they have released linebacker Brian Rolle. Rolle had a solid rookie season last year, but has had a hard time finding the field this season. Brian put out several tweets about the release:

"Well Philly it's been real"
"Words can't explain the hollow feeling I have right now. Love this city but I'm on to another journey"
"It's just the beginning"

We wish the young linebacker the best of luck. The Eagles have also announced that they have signed linebacker Adrian Moten. In addition, the Eagles sign Julian Vandervelde to the practice squad, and released long snapper Kyle Nelson. Busy day for the Eagles front office.

Just didn’t cut it: LB Brian Rolle released by Philadelphia Eagles, Adrian Moten signed

Image via Press of Atlantic City
Linebacker Brian Rolle had an uphill battle heading into the 2012 season to prove his value on the team and it is one that he ultimately lost. The Eagles announced that Rolle was cut on Tuesday and in his place signed Adrian Moten.
Just before the start of the season Rolle lost his job as Philadelphia’s starting weakside linebacker to Akeem Jordan. Rolle vowed that he would make it back and tried to use the setback as inspiration to push him to work that much harder to succeed.
But his efforts were not enough to save his spot on the team.
As Akeem Jordan nursed a strained hamstring, Rolle was given an opportunity to start last week against the Cardinals but made little impact, recording only 2 tackles. Tellingly, Jamar Chaney was given the start over Rolle against the Giants on Sunday.
Add to the mix the atrocious special team coverage from Sunday’s game against the Giants and it was enough to make the Eagles’ decision. It was time for Rolle to go. H...

Eagles Release Brian Rolle; Re-Sign OL Julian Vandervelde

CBS’s Spike Eskin reported today that the Eagles have cut linebacker Brian Rolle, and added linebacker Adrian Moten, who was with the team in training camp, to the active roster.
The Eagles special teams was very disappointing on Sunday in their 19-17 win against the NY Giants. Brian Rolle’s performance on special teams, along with several others on the kick return coverage allowed the Giants’ special teams to average 36.2 yards per kickoff. Giants’ rookie, David Wilson, took five of six kickoff returns to the 35 or beyond.
Brian Rolle started 13 games at weakside linebacker for the Eagles last season.
Additionally, Offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde was signed to practice squad, after having been released from the Tampa Bay practice squad. Vandervelde’s Eagles highlight so far is his rendition of the Star Spangled Banner before the Flight Night practice in August.
NOTE: With long snapper Jon Dorenbos’ ankle being a non-factor on Sunday, the Eagles have also released long snapper Kyle N

Q&A With Philadelphia Eagles LB Brian Rolle

Last year, the Philadelphia Eagles had a less than stellar season and disappointed many people when it came to living up to their “dream team” hype. Now, it’s 2012 and the Birds are looking better than ever. Every man on the roster plays a special role and all will be giving it their 110% this upcoming year. One man in particular at linebacker is Brian Rolle. The Ohio State grad had a phenomenal rookie season and is looking to put many critics in their place by proving the Eagles have what it takes. I had the opportunity to e-mail some questions to Brian about his thoughts on the Birds and the 2012 season:

Coming off your rookie year with 54 tackles, how accomplishing does it feel to know you are the only linebacker starting back-to-back seasons in your second year?

Well its exciting to know that the hard wok I’ve put In has paid off and as far as starting I just know I have to continue to work extremely hard to keep my job.

Last year, the defense was under a lot of criticism and Juan Cas

Eagles’ Brian Rolle to lose his starting job?

Brian Rolle was a starting linebacker for the Eagles last season, but given how poorly the Eagles’ linebackers played as a whole, that’s not necessarily a good thing. In fact, the Eagles have already added two new starters in their linebacking corps this offseason, DeMeco Ryans and Mychal Kendricks, and Rolle remains the only incumbent starter, at least for now.
According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Rolle’s future might be as a “situational player and a special teams ace,” which makes a lot of sense given his lack of size (5-10 227). That’s not a good sign for Rolle, who is in competition with Jamar Chaney, who was the incumbent starting linebacker on the opposite side last year. The smart money seems to be on Chaney starting at his 3rd different position in 3 years in the league and playing the weak side for the Eagles this year, over Rolle.

Philadelphia Eagles select Mychal Kendricks, Grade A

The Philadelphia Eagles got one of the best players on the board and filled an immediate need with this selection. I’m not sure if Mychal Kendricks will play weak-side or strong-side linebacker, but he could be an upgrade at either position. Considering Brian Rolle’s breakout year in 2011, the strong-side may be the best place for him.

Brian Rolle Should Be Key Player for Eagles on Sunday

I haven’t followed the Dolphins all that closely, but I think the recent play of Reggie Bush has really helped the team find some success. He’ll never be what people thought he could be coming out of college, but he can be an extremely effective back when utilized properly.
One thing that you can’t deny about Bush is his speed. He’s fast. It’s that simple. The good news for the Eagles is that they’ve long preferred speed over size at the linebacker position. This is something I’ll be interested in seeing on Sunday. Can the Eagles linebackers run with Bush? More specifically, I look at Brian Rolle.
You can argue that Rolle made his way into the starting lineup because of how poorly Casey Matthews played. I won’t deny that. However, I’m not going to knock him for the job he’s done since giving the opportunity.
Not to sound like a philosopher or anything, but anytime you’re given an opportunity in life, you have to make the best of it. Rolle has done just that and has been ...
