Aaron Rodgers: “Randall Cobb is a guy who could be a 100-plus catch guy every year”

Now that Donald Driver and Greg Jennings are no longer around, the Packers will need there other receivers to step up. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers believes Randall Cobb can haul in 100 receptions a season.
“I still like the guys we’ve got,” Rodgers said, per ESPNWisconsin.com. “We have a lot of talent at that position. I think Randall Cobb is a guy who could be a 100-plus catch guy every year. James Jones led the league in touchdown receptions last year. (And) Jordy has had some real big years for us.”
I agree with Rodgers that Cobb could catch 100 balls a season, but he won’t because of how much Aaron spreads the ball around. The Packers offense isn’t designed to feed the ball strictly to one player.

Packers may have Johnathan Franklin return kicks

With Randall Cobb expected to have a larger role on offense the Packers will need to look for someone to replace him as a kick returner.
According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, they Packers may look to rookie running back Johnathan Franklin to help them in the return game.
Over the past few weeks, another intriguing prospect has emerged in rookie running back Johnathan Franklin, a fourth-round pick and 4,400-yard rusher during his four seasons at UCLA who was never used in the return game.

During rookie orientation, however, McCarthy was optimistic about the 5-10, 205-pound speedster’s special teams potential given his highly touted agility, quickness and ability to make defenders miss.

“Frankly, I thought Franklin handled the ball on the punt and the kickoff,” McCarthy said. “I was excited about that, too, so he seems very natural.”

Could Fewer Touches Lead to More Production for Packers WR Randall Cobb?

Packers WR Randall Cobb.
Breakout WR/HB/KR/PR Randall Cobb touched the ball 159 times and amassed a Packers franchise record 2,342 all-purpose yards in 2012.
It was quite the season for the second-year talent out of Kentucky, and very necessary. Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson all missed significant time with injuries. Cobb, along with James Jones, stepped up to fill the void left by Jennings and Nelson and helped negate the Packers struggles running the ball.
But 159 touches is a lot for a player who is 5-foot-10 and 191 pounds. Cobb injured his ankle and missed the season finale against the Vikings. He also managed just six catches for 31 yards in two playoff games and was taken off of punt returns against the 49ers, only to see rookie Jeremy Ross **** one deep in Green Bay territory that led to a San Francisco touchdown.
I was at the wild-card win over the Vikings and watched Cobb limp around on that ankle. He was hurting. The explosion wasn’t there.
With Jennings gone, it’s assum...

Randall Cobb ready to step up in Green Bay

Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb told the Green Bay Press-Gazette that he’s ready to step up now that Greg Jennings and Donald Driver are no long around. “I think definitely with Donald retiring and Greg leaving, it’s definitely going to be a lot more weight on me, James and Jordy’s shoulders,” Cobb said. “But we’re taking on the challenge head-on. We’ve been really excited to get back and work. We’ve got some young guys, some drafted guys that’s coming in. We’re excited to get back to work and see how it’s going to turn out this year.” Cobb says he still has a lot of room to grow as a player. “I really don’t think I’ve peaked yet,” Cobb said. “I’m 22 years old. I’ve got a lot of learning still to do. I have a long way to go and I just hope I continue to get better over the next years.” Cobb is a dynamic player that can give opposing defenses nightmares. I think he’ll only get better as time goes on. Need NFL Tickets?
2013 Third Year Wideouts: Randall Cobb

There is a general inkling in fantasy football that the third year of a wide receiver’s career can and usually is their breakout year in the NFL. Over the course of the off-season, Razzball will take a look at some wideouts heading into their third year in the league and see if they’re a breakout candidate for 2013 fantasy football. This week we will review Randall Cobb.
What a difference a year and an injury can make. A year after plenty of hype surrounding his rookie year as a draft day sleeper, Cobb was again touted in 2012 as the great draft day diamond in the wee round rough. And not unlike his rookie year, Cobb had a big week 1 game silencing naysayers about the sleeper hype. But a funny thing happened that changed the course of his 2012 season compared to 2011. Namely, injuries. Injuries that made the Green Bay receiving crew do a bit of a 180 from what fantasy owners have come to expect from the land of the Cheeseheads. You see, Greg Jennings lived up to his Spice Gi...

Packers Randall Cobb: 2012 Player Evaluation and Report Card

1) Introduction: In the first game of his NFL career last season, Randall Cobb burst onto the scene with two touchdowns against the New Orleans Saints. He proved to be a dynamic kick returner with seemingly limitless potential. But with wide receiver being one of the Packers’ deepest positions, it was unknown just how many opportunities Cobb would get to prove his worth.
2) Profile:
Randall Ladonald Cobb II

Age: 22
Born: 08/22/1990, in Maryville, TN
Height: 5’10″

College: Kentucky
Rookie Year: 2011
NFL Experience: 2 years

Career stats and more:
3) Expectations coming into the season: Last summer, Cobb was clearly behind Jennings and Nelson in the pecking order at wide receiver. But it became evident early in training camp that the Packers had big plans for the second-year player. Cobb lined up inside, outside and even in the backfield, in hopes of getting him into the open field more often. But still, playing behind Jennings

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb said he almost played in this past week’s game against the Vikings and that he’ll be ready for Saturday night’s Wild Card show down.“It was close,” Cobb said after the Packers’ 37-34 loss at the Metrodome. “It was 50-50.”Cobb said the decision was made between him and the medical staff and that he thought it was the right one.“I wanted to be out there, especially a game like this,” Cobb said. “You want to play, but we were just being smart about it. It was a mutual decision.”Asked whether he was confident he would play against the Vikings in the playoff opener next week, Cobb said, “100%.”Getting Cobb back this week will be a big lift to the Packers as they head into the playoffs. Need NFL Tickets?

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb was held out of practice for a second straight day after suffering an ankle injury during last week’s game.
Packers practice update, DNP: Cobb (ankle/knee), Starks (knee), House (shoulder)
— Pete Dougherty (@PeteDougherty) December 27, 2012

i got a feeling the Packers will keep Cobb out of this week’s regular season finale so he’ll be ready for the playoffs.

Packers hoping Randall Cobb’s ankle injury isn’t serious

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb went down with an ankle injury during today’s blow out win over the Titans.
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is hoping that Cobb’s injury isn’t serious.
“The training staff on the field did not give me anything to believe that it was very serious,” McCarthy said, “but as you know with ankle sprains and joint injuries the next day is a huge indicator.”
McCarthy added that he’d “potentially” make a change in the return game. When asked if Cobb is his guy if he’s healthy, he said “we’ll see.”
With the playoffs only a couple of weeks away, the Packers will need Cobb to get healthy quickly.

Randall Cobb takes advantage of bizarre rule

There’s a little known rule in the NFL, that Packers KR/WR Randall Cobb knew about and he exploited it quite well against the Titans. The kickoff stopped at the 4, and instead of fielding it and trying to return it, he put a foot out of bounds and then fielded the ball. The NFL’s rule regarding this type of situation or play is the same as on a fumble: If any part of a player’s body is out of bounds when he makes contact with the football, the ball is considered out of bounds as well. This meant that when Cobb fielded the ball, the ball was technically out of bounds and that’s what resulted in the penalty and the ball being placed at the 40-yard line. This is an absolutely outstanding play by Randall Cobb, not enough praise can be said about him. Perhaps he could teach Stefan Logan a thing or two about kick returns.

Packers reportedly thinking about reducing Randall Cobb’s return duties

According to ProFootballWeekly.com, the Green Bay Packers are now thinking about reducing wide receiver Randall Cobb’s kick returning duities since his offensive role has expanded so much this season.
We hear the Packers have at least given some thought to lessening multithreat Randall Cobb’s workload by reducing his kick-return duties.
The last thing the Packers want to do is have Cobb on the field too much. It could lead to him wearing down and getting injured.

Packing the Stats: Randall Cobb and Other Movers of the Chain Gang

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy wasn’t kidding when he called second-round pick Randall Cobb “very talented,” “multidimensional,” and “a matchup player” after the 2011 NFL Draft. We didn’t see a whole lot outside of kick returns last year, but this season has really seen Cobb explode on the offense. From his role in the slot to his special place in the “Cobra” formation, he has been a dynamic force that tilts the field.
We could talk about his best-in-league 131.0 wide receiver rating from ProFootballFocus.com. We could also look at his 45 receptions (tied for 13th in the league) or six receiving touchdowns (tied for 7th). But what I really want to focus on in this issue is a measure of production not often looked at: first down conversions.
What I have charted below is the number of conversions made by each individual player on the offense through the first nine weeks of 2012. From there, I’ve broken that number down into passes, runs, conversions by down, and touchdowns...

Randall Cobb Suffers Head Injury

Green Bay receiver Randall Cobb suffered a head injury returning a punt in the second quarter of Sunday's game versus the Cardinals. He's been taken to the sidelines for concussion tests.Fantasy Spin:Cobb already has two touchdown grabs and 23 receiving yards for the Packers as they lead Arizona 14-7. Cobb didn't look too shaken up after the play so Green Bay probably took him out as a precaution. We're guessing he'll be back on the field for the second half.

Did Sunday’s Victory Save the Packers’ Season?

Randall Cobb played a big role in the Packers’ emotional win over the Saints on Sunday.
I laughed when the headline to Kevin Seifert’s game story popped up on my Twitter account Sunday night: “Emotional Packers save their season.”
“Really, Kevin?” I thought. “A season cannot be saved in week four. Calm down.”
I thought Kevin was reaching for a story angle to try and be different, get people riled up and generate web traffic.
But Seifert is an excellent reporter, one that isn’t prone to hyperbole and weird narratives that attempt to push reader’s buttons just for the hell of it. So I clicked on the story, read it, and decided that Seifert might be on to something.
This passage in particular stood out:
At 1-2, the Packers were facing some long odds if they lost Sunday’s game. Since the NFL moved to its current playoff format, 85.3 percent of teams that started 1-3 missed the playoffs. In a league in which most teams have relatively equal talent, the so-called “snowball effect” is very

Meet the Packers Newest Running Back: Randall Cobb

Could we see Packers KR/WR Randall Cobb on the reverse in 2012?
Despite losing to the 49ers last weekend, several things jumped out at me about the Packers; their offense can be as powerful as it was last year but look like they are going to need some time to get “tuned up”, the defense isn’t as bad as it was last year, but it’s still the weakness of the team, and the Packers might have finally figured out their problems at running back. Their solution: second year man Randall Cobb.
The Packers have taken a page from the Minnesota Vikings and have positioned Cobb in a very similar manner as Percy Harvin, another player who perhaps doesn’t have the traditional skill set of a wide receiver but makes up for it in diversity of ability.
During week 7 of the 2010 season, the Vikings and Harvin fooled the Packers with a deceptively simple formation, with a twist:

The Vikings start in a 311 formation (3 WR, 1TE, 1RB) on 1st and 10 with Randy Moss at the bottom of the screen split wide, ...
