Seahawks OG John Moffitt Not Among Inactives Vs Redskins

The only real news for the Seattle Seahawks is offensive lineman John Moffitt will be on the active roster for today’s game, the first time in three games.

Moffitt had been a healthy scratch for the last two games, as rookie J.R. Sweezy reclaimed the starting right guard job. But with all of the exotic blitzes Washington likes to dial up, the Seahawks might have to go with Moffitt at right guard if Sweezy struggles in pass protection.

Here’s the full list of Seattle's inactives: WR Deon Butler, SS Winston Guy, CB DeShawn Shead, LB Allen Bradford, OG Rishaw Johnson, OT Mike Person and DT Jaye Howard.

Indianapolis Colts Sign Super Bowl Winning Offensive Lineman

Bruce Arians and Trai Essex won two Super Bowls together in Pittsburgh. Now Arians hopes the veteran offensive lineman can bring his versatility to Indianapolis and help plug some holes there that threaten the safety of his star quarterback.

Essex was signed on Monday after head coach Chuck Pagano revealed it would be at least another week before starting guard Joe Reitz would be ready to play. Right tackle Winston Justice also left yesterday's loss to the Bears early with an undisclosed head injury.

The Bears collapsed Andrew Luck's pocket with regularity yesterday, forcing several high throws from the rookie. Essex brings something this young Colts team is always looking for: experience. With the Steelers, Essex played in 82 games including six postseason contests and three Super Bowls.

Essex's versatility is also a trait highly coveted. Last season, amid a season of injuries along the Steelers' offensive line, Essex played every position, including cen...

Colts Release OL Person and Shipley, Sign Trai Essex; More Moves to Come

The Colts continue with a trend with Ryan Grigson as GM: if he doesn't like something, he doesn't wait to do something about it.
After just one game into the season, Grigson has already decided that center A.Q. Shipley and tackle Mike Person are not worth roster spots on the Colts. Shipley made the roster as an effect of being the only backup center on the roster, but apparently he has been deemed no longer necessary. It was a little surprising to see Person waived after the Colts used a waiver claim on him a couple weeks ago.
In order to refill the roster, the Colts signed veteran offensive lineman Trai Essex. Essex played for offensive coordinator Bruce Arians in Pittsburgh, being drafted in 2005 by the Steelers. He was a starter in 2009, as well as partially in 2010. Of course, those Steeler offensive lines were terrible, and Essex really is nothing but a depth player.
He is a player, however, with a lot of flexibility, and is able to play all five positions. This is...

Colts Sign OG Trai Essex, Release OT Mike Person, C A.Q. Shipley

The Indianapolis Colts signed free agent guard Trai Essex on Monday.
Essex, who has started 28 of his 76 career games, was waived on Aug. 31 by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The 6-foot-5, 324-pounder had been a Steeler his entire career (2005-2011) and was a part of two Super Bowl-winning teams. The former third-round pick played in all 16 games for the Steelers last season, seeing action at guard, tackle and center.
The Colts also waived tackle Mike Person and center A.Q. Shipley. Source: Sports Network Attached Thumbnails

Final Analysis of 53-Man Roster: Offense

Now that the Colts have made their final roster cuts, made the immediate moves on the waiver wire, and made the majority of their practice squad moves, we have a pretty clear picture of what their initial 53-man roster will look like come September 10.
What does the season hold for this team? Does it look better, worse, or similar to what we assumed earlier this offseason?
First up to take a closer look at is the offensive side of the ball.

Quarterbacks
Starter: Andrew Luck
Key Reserves: Drew Stanton, Chandler Harnish
Obviously, the Colts have a much better situation than they had going into last season, with their franchise quarterback a much younger, much healthier player. Luck has looked just as good as he's been hyped up to be, and Stanton and Harnish have performed adequately in the preseason.
All that matters for the season is really Luck's health and development, but Stanton and Harnish are interesting backups. The Colts thought so much of Harnish, they di...

Colts Claim 3 Players Off Waivers

The Indianapolis Colts, by virtue of being the league's worst team last year, are using their spot at the front of the line to sift through Friday's cuts to their advantage.
The Colts claimed three players off waivers on Saturday, including former New England Patriots safety Sergio Brown. Indy also claimed offensive tackle Mike Person, who was let go by the 49ers and nose tackle Martin Tevaseu, who was waived by the Jets.
To make room on the roster, the Colts dropped safety Jermale Hines, cornerback D.J. Johnson and tackle Ty Nsekhe. Source: National Football Post Attached Thumbnails

49ers sign Leonard Davis

The 49ers have signed veteran guard Leonard Davis to a one year deal. Davis visited the 49ers earlier in the offseason, but left without a contract offer.
Davis will come in and compete at the RG position with Alex Boone, Daniel Kilgore and Mike Person. Davis has played for the Cardinals and the Cowboys, where he was a 3 time Pro Bowler.
It will be a battle to watch at the RG position. Davis may not make it out of camp, but he does give the team a veteran presence that the position is lacking.

Full 7 Round 2012 San Francisco 49ers Mock Draft

Teams that pick relatively late in the NFL Draft have usually had a great amount of success the previous season. The San Francisco 49ers find themselves in such a situation this season and boy has it been a long time coming for the franchise.
Another aspect of success, which is much more beneficial, is the fact that San Francisco might actually have the ability to go best player available in certain rounds, rather than having to reach for a position of need.
That said, the 49ers do have some clear needs on both sides of the ball that they will have to address in the draft and supplement via free agency. Today I am going to give you my full seven round San Francisco 49ers mock draft.
