Marcus Gilbert Opens Up Steelers First OTA Session Of 2013 At Left Tackle

The Pittsburgh Steelers first OTA session of the 2013 season got underway on Tuesday and we are finally starting to see some reports come in via Twitter from the media.

Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that Marcus Gilbert opened up as the starting left tackle with Mike Adams manning the right tackle spot. In addition, Kelvin Beachum worked as the second team center on Tuesday.

Tight end Heath Miller (knee) will not practice all off-season, but Kaboly reports that he was walking around without a limp and that he looked good.

The tackle spots are one of several things Read more [...]

Several Things To Look For During The Steelers First OTA Session Of 2013

The first OTA session of the 2013 off-season for the Pittsburgh Steelers will get underway on Tuesday, and while we aren't likely to learn a lot from it, there will be a few things I will be looking for specifically in the reports from the media.

Tackle Sides - Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was pretty much non-committal about who will play what tackle spot when he talked to the media during his pre draft press conference. With veteran Max Starks currently out of sight and out of mind for right now, we should find out this week whether or not it is Marcus Gilbert or Mike Adams that gets the first Read more [...]

Steelers Only Expected To Have A Few Players Miss First OTA Session Of 2013

The first OTA session of the 2013 season for the Pittsburgh Steelers will get underway on Tuesday and only a few players are not expected to participate.

As far as injured players go, tight end Heath Miller (knee) and linebacker Sean Spence (knee) are both expected to be sidelined as they continue to rehab their knee injuries suffered last season. Neither are expected to practice in any of the Steelers OTA sessions or mini camp and both are also expected to open up training camp on the Active PUP list when the team assembles for training camp.

Steelers T Marcus Gilbert Says Ankle Is Fine And That He Plans On Working At First OTA Session

On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed free agent tackle Guy Whimper to help bolster their depth on the offensive line and I speculated that tackle Marcus Gilbert might not be ready for the first OTA session that takes place in a few more weeks due to him coming off ankle surgery in December. Gilbert, however, told me tonight that the ankle is indeed fine and that he plans on working during the OTA session.

Gilbert injured the tendon in his right ankle in the Week 6 loss last season to the Tennessee Titans and flew to North Carolina shortly thereafter to see specialist, who deemed at that Read more [...]

Marcus Gilbert vs Mike Adams Camp Battle Will be Very Important in Determining Pittsburgh Steelers Offensive Success

Over the past three years the Pittsburgh Steelers have put a lot of high selections into their offensive line. The idea has been to build a better run game and to keep Ben Roethlisberger from taking so many hits. That all starts up front and therefore they are trying to build their best line since the 2004 and 2005 seasons when the Steelers had a solid front five and a dominant running game.
The rebuild of the offensive line started with the 18th overall pick in 2010. Pittsburgh used that pick on Florida center Maurkice Pouncey who has been to the Pro-Bowl in each of his first three seasons and is considered to be one of the best at his position. The following year the Steelers used their second round pick on another Florida lineman when they drafted tackle Marcus Gilbert.
Gilbert was forced into the lineup as a rookie due to an injury to Willie Colon and played 14 games at right tackle in 2011. He entered the 2012 seasons as the Steelers starting right tackle, but only made it thro...

Marcus Gilbert Says He Has Had Surgery On His Right Ankle

It has been over a week now since the Pittsburgh Steelers placed second-year tackle Marcus Gilbert on injured reserve with an ankle injury and head coach Mike Tomlin said at that time that surgery was an option.

According to Gilbert on Twitter, that surgery has now taken place and his rehab is presumably now underway.

Gilbert injured the tendon in his right ankle way back in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans and was flown to North Carolina to have a specialist look at it. At that time it was deemed that the Florida product didn't need surgery so the Steelers gave him several weeks to see Read more [...]

Marcus Gilbert Disputes Report That He Will Be Out For Two Months

"He's going to miss a significant amount of time, maybe up to six weeks, said Pouncey. "I don't think it's season ending, but we've got to give him time to heal and get his body right."

Pittsburgh Steelers right tackle Marcus Gilbert announced today on Twitter that he will undergo shoulder surgery Wednesday morning. Gilbert noted that he had been playing with the injury all season. It is unclear which shoulder Gilbert will need to get fixed at this time. Gilbert was the Steelers second-round pick out of Florida in the 2011 NFL draft and started 12 regular season games this past season at right tackle after starter Willie Colon went down week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens with a triceps injury.
