Browns Have To Protect Their Q.B. Against Kansas City Sunday Justin Houston Has 10 Sacks

This Sunday the Cleveland Browns may face more pressure than they have all season, the Kansas City Chiefs are coming to the Cleveland Browns stadium and a couple of guys the Browns are going to have to keep away from Brandon Weeden. The Chiefs defense likes to bring the pressure and they are capable of getting to the quarterback, Justin Huston is tied for 5th place with 10 sacks and Tamba Hali has 6 on the year. The Browns offensive line has done a good job protecting Weeden this season, Sunday they are going to have their hands full. The Chiefs have something to prove as their season comes to an end. Not only are they trying to win some football games, they have a couple of guys who would love nothing mire than to come into Browns stadium Sunday and show the fanes they can play football. One of the guys who may hold some ill feelings towards the Browns is the Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel. The Browns fired the head coach and he may still hold a grudge. The Chiefs quarterback Brad...

Chiefs penalized for excessive celebration on touchdown that didn’t count

The 1-7 Kansas City Chiefs were penalized in their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night for excessive celebration on a touchdown that didn’t end up counting. I didn’t even know that was possible. The Steelers had a third-and-seven play from their 26 during the third quarter when backup quarterback Byron Leftwich had the ball knocked out of his hand. Linebacker Justin Houston recovered the ball and ran it into the end zone for a touchdown. The real fun happened when Houston began swaying back and forth in a celebration. He was surrounded by his teammates who formed a little dance circle and joined in on the fun. Unfortunately for the lowly Chiefs, the scoring play was reviewed and overturned because it was deemed an incomplete pass rather than a fumble. That reversal didn’t stop the referees from penalizing Kansas City 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct, which gave Pittsburgh a first down at the 41. That’s the sort of thing that really only happens to 1-7 teams. O...

Chiefs LB Houston emerging as sack master

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) It wasn't until the middle of last season that Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel, the defensive coordinator at the time, finally saw the light come on for linebacker Justin Houston.

The technique, the scheme, the speed of the game - it all clicked one night in Chicago.

The third-round draft pick with the first-round talent finally secured his first sack in Week 13 at Soldier Field, and he hasn't stopped since. Houston had three that night, a couple more by the end of the year, and already has four sacks through the first three weeks this season.

Three of them came in last Sunday's overtime victory at New Orleans.

"He had a lot of stuff that he had to learn," Crennel said. "About halfway through the season, he began to get comfortable with his assignments and what we were asking him to do."

Houston was a big reason why Kansas City managed to dig out of an 18-point hole against the Saints, and then finish off the biggest comeback in franchise history. His sack

Atlanta Falcons at Kansas City Chiefs Week 1 NFL Pick

Atlanta Falcons (0-0) at Kansas City Chiefs (0-0)
Buy tickets for this game
When I looked at the week 1 games a few months ago, this one stood out to me. There was a reason. I bet the Falcons as road favorites in Chicago week 1 last year and got burned as the Falcons proved that their struggles on the road were more important than their talent edge and lost pretty easily. Obviously, I had that game in mind and I was nervous to bet the Falcons in a similar situation this year week 1, especially in Kansas City, a pretty tough place to play.
The Chiefs aren’t a great team, but they can definitely win some games and pull some upsets if you let them play their game. They have a strong defense which should be even better this season with the emergence of Justin Houston, a budding star at linebacker. The Chiefs have been starved for another pass rushing option after Tamba Hali for years and Houston worked his way into the starting lineup last season and had 6 sacks, 3 quarterback hits, and...

Kansas City Chiefs Potential Breakout Player of 2012: Justin Houston

The great thing about the NFL is that there are so many positions that every year, there is almost always at least one player who has a breakout year on every team, no matter how good or bad the team is. This is the part in a 32 part segment detailing one potential breakout player for the 2012 NFL season on each NFL team. For the Kansas City Chiefs, that player is outside linebacker Justin Houston.
The Chiefs have one of the best pass rushers in the league, Tamba Hali, but he’s the only good pass rusher they’ve had for the past few years. Hali turned in another strong season in 2011, ranking 4th on ProFootballFocus among rush linebackers and producing 12 sacks, 10 quarterback hits, and 41 quarterback pressures on 459 pass rush snaps, good for a rate of 13.7%. However, the Chiefs only had 29 sacks.
In 2010, he had 19 sacks, 16 quarterback hits, and 68 quarterback pressures on 583 pass rush snaps, good for a rate of 15.9%. The Chiefs did manage 46 sacks, including playoffs, but nickel...

Chiefs' Justin Houston emerging as rookie to watch

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Justin Houston cuts an imposing figure standing in front of his locker in the Chiefs' practice facility. The rookie linebacker is 6-foot-3, 270 pounds of muscle, his right eye a bloody red, a large scar on his chest and a tattoo inked across his right shoulder.

It's little wonder he's such a ferocious pass rusher that he recorded the first three sacks of his career last Sunday at Chicago. Who would want to get in his way?

Then you talk to him and you realize the image doesn't match reality.

Sure, he's a big guy with bulging biceps, but he's thoughtful and polite. The bloody eye came from getting poked a couple weeks back against New England. That scar across his chest is from when he had a cyst removed as a child. And the scrolling tattoo reads, "Only God Can Judge Me," a reflection both of his faith and his upbringing, which was never all that easy.

He's the sixth of 11 children raised by his mother, Kim Houston - nine boys and two girls in a cr

Chiefs' Justin Houston emerging as rookie to watch

Justin Houston has emerged as the Chiefs' newest pass-rush specialist.

The third-round draft pick out of Georgia is coming off a three-sack performance in a 10-3 win over Chicago, a victory that kept Kansas City's faint playoff hopes alive.

Houston has developed into an every-down threat opposite Tamba Hali, giving the Chiefs someone who gets to the quarterback from both of the edges.

The former Georgia standout, who grew up in a single-mother home with 10 siblings, said he's proud of how far he's come. But he also said he's only scratching the surface of what he can do, a sentiment that was echoed by Chiefs coach Todd Haley.

The Chiefs are pleased with the development of rookie OLB Justin Houston. The third-round pick has seen his playing time increase in recent weeks and is really coming along as a pass rusher opposite Tamba Hali. Playing mainly in the nickel and dime packages, Houston isn't asked to stop the run very often, which is still a weakness in his game. Source: Pro Football Weekly Attached Thumbnails
