Eagles Come Up Big In The Clutch

The Eagles left San Fransisco victorious, in what was a very big game against the 49ers. After digging themselves into a small hole, The Eagles needed a win to stay in the NFC East race. Down 9 points in the 4th quarter, the team suddenly felt the urgency of the situation, and rose up to [...]

Eagles right back in the NFC East race; Stats you should care about

Eagles Upcoming Schedule: Bye, Falcons (at home), Seahawks, Giants (at home). Falcons have been coming on strong both offensively and defensively. They have to take that one seriously, but have a huge advantage at home. Roddy White should be doubled at all times. Seahawks should be any easy one. Then the Eagles get to host the Giants. The Eagles could easily be 5-3 going into the Giants game, while the Cowboys go 5-5 if they manage just 1 win or 6-4 if they manage just 2 wins in their next 4.

Collapse Leaves Niners 2-4 After 40-26 Loss to Eagles

Putting up a stunning 23 points in the fourth quarter, including 13 in the final 5:14, the Philadelphia Eagles rebounded from last weeks loss to the Redskins and topped the San Francisco 49a??ers 40-26 at Monster Park Sunday in San Fran. The Eagles were trailing 26-17 after Joe Nedney kicked a 29-yard field goal with 3:01 left in the third quarter. From that point on, it was all Eagles.
The start of the comeback came with QB Donovan McNabb leading the team on a five-play, 63-yard drive that ended with McNabb hitting TE L.J. Smith for a 3-yard score that made it 26-24. David Akers then kicked three straight field goals, from 38, 25 and 28 yards to make it 33-26 with 1:14 left. J.T. O'Sullivan had a nightmare 4th quarter, and it concluded with him throwing a pick that was returned for a score by Juqua Parker for 55 yards to close it out at 40-26 with :38 left.
The fourth quarter for the now 2-4 Niners went like this: 3 plays, minus 7 yards - punt. 3 plays, minus 8 yards, interception. 3 plays, 7 yards, fumble by O'Sullivan. 3 plays, 25 yards, pick returned for a score. 2 plays, minus 9 yards, end of the game. O'Sullivan is on the verge of losing his job. He was 16-for-29 for 212 yards, two picks and a lost 4th quarter fumble that gave the Eagles a field goal.

San Fran trailed 17-6 in the second quarter, but they came back with a Nedney 53-yard field goal, a blocked field goal for a score, then a Frank Gore six-yard TD to make it 23-17. Nedney kicked the 29-yard field goal to make it 26-17 with 18 minutes left, which is when the Eagles comeback started and the 49a??ers imploded.
McNabb was 23-for-36 for 279 yards with two TD's and one pick. With no Brian Westbrook, Correll Buckhalter was the workhorse back, rushing for 97 yards on 19 carries with one TD. Buckhalter also had 7 catches for 89 yards. DeSean Jackson had 6 catches for 94 yards.
The Niners are on the road at the champion Giants next Sunday at 4:15pm Eastern.

Quick Hits From Week 6

In lieu of the running blog that we at PHSports have done throughout most of the season, I wanted to offer some quick hits from a most interesting Week 6. As noted in this past Tuesday's edition of the FourCast, awkward games are this season's calling card.

In the early set of games, the Washington Redskins lost three fumbles (all three in field goal range resulting in a potential 16-point swing) and gave away a game against the St. Louis Rams at the death. The Redskins outgained the Rams by over 150 yards. Maybe the Rams knew what they were doing when they made Donnie Avery the first WR taken in the draft and gave silly money to a kicker.

In the game that would not end, Dallas forced overtime at Arizona and had seemingly stolen the momentum ... only to lose on a blocked punt. Despite another sloppy game from Dallas, their fourth in six games, many will decide to point fingers at the special teams who bookended the game with touchdowns surrendered.

Indianapolis has resurrected its season and Marvin Harrison answered my question earlier today about whether he was done. He's not. Just ask Chris McAllister. The Colts may have longer term issues with the health of Joseph Addai hanging in the balance, but the timing which is so crucial to Indy's engine was functioning per usual.

As expected, Jacksonville hit Denver in the mouth and won. Let's see if the Jags can do the unthinkable and aim for consistency.

Perhaps we have been underrating the NFC South. Just ask the Chicago Bears who are 0-3 against the division. Three teams have 4 wins and New Orleans is in last with three wins. Also, paging the Carolina Panthers. Meanwhile, Matt Ryan is no game manager. He's a winner.

Philadelphia salvaged a fourth-quarter comeback against San Francisco. It's amazing how Correll Buckhalter's numbers can mirror that of Brian Westbrook's when he gets similar touches. Am I saying Buckhalter is as good as Westbrook? Not a chance. But I am saying that Buck can start in this league for at least 10 teams and it's no coincidence that his lack of touches correlate with losses to divisional foes. Also, I'm starting to think that Donovan McNabb is more comfortable without Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis. The team is 3-1 when neither have played, and the only loss was the shootout in Dallas.

GameDay Niners News and Notes

Ernie Conwell thinks Vernon Davis is eventually going to bust out and have a monster game. With just five receptions for 87 yards after five games, it appears that Davis will be yet another under-utilized tight end in a Mike Martz-coordinated offense. There had been talk earlier in the year that Davis, despite his ability to run deep routes, would play more of a decoy role.
What's confounding is that quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan, as inexperienced as he was entering the season, hasn't relied on his tight end more. Tight ends are usually the security blankets for raw NFL quarterbacks. Perhaps Davis reaches his full value this weekend, but 49ers fans a?" and Davis' fantasy owners a?" are surely frustrated at his lack of production.
Within this piece, it's noted that Davis has taken on more pass-blocking duty than he expected.
Ann Killion writes that Mike Nolan's play calling might be too vanilla.
Kentwan Balmer is still learning about leverage.
The 49ers will have to focus their attention on Correll Buckhalter now that Brian Westbrook is out for tomorrow's matchup.

Week 6 Updated Rankings - Rising & Falling

Before diving into the week 6 risers and fallers, just a quick couple of items. First, due to the wide amount of injuries that plagued the NFL this past week, we have gone ahead and tweaked our Weekly Rankings a bit to reflect some of the more major changes (i.e. Carson Palmer sitting, while Ryan Fitzpatrick starts). To see these changes, visit www.brunoboys.net.

The second order of business is just a quick heads up to a format change in regards to this article. Rather than break-up the risers and fallers based on position, I will simply be dividing players up into two categories. One for the risers, and one for fallers. As one incident can effect so many players on a team, this felt like the most appropriate way to construct this article. With the business out of the way, let's get to the fun, simply read on for the Bruno Boys Week 6 Updated Rankings - Rising & Falling.

--------------------

RISERS

WR Marques Colston (New Orleans Saints) vs. Oakland

It was widely believed that Marques Colston would not return to the Saints line-up until week 7 at the earliest, but it appears the stud wide receiver, will be making an appearance in week 6 against the Oakland Raiders. While reports are stating that Colston will only be in for three and four wide receiver sets, you can be sure Brees looks to get him the ball when he's on the field. He should have a solid return....

Fantasy Football Weekly Rundown - Week 6

Heading into week 6 of the NFL season fantasy football owners are faced with many tough decisions. There is an ever growing list of injuries and four teams on a bye, so patching together a starting line-up has faired difficult for some and it seems to get harder by the day.

As you try and piece together your week 6 line-up you will need the most up-to-date player information and we have that for you right here in the Bruno Boys Weekly Rundown (fantasy-style).

--------------------

Brian Westbrook breaks two ribs Week 5, ruled out for Week 6

Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook broke two ribs week 5 when the Eagles lost to the Washington Redskins. Westbrook who has already been hampered by an injured ankle has been ruled out for the week 6 match-up against the San Francisco 49ers.

Westbrook has been a huge disappointment early this season due to all the injuries. He has been limited since the ankle injury in week 3 and owners who drafted him as a top five overall pick in fantasy drafts have been scrambling to make up for the loss. With Westbrook out Correll Buckhalter will once again get the start. The 49ers have given up 128.4 YPG and 6 rushing touchdowns on the season so Buckhalter could be worth using as a bye week or injury replacement.

Has a draft day decision come back to haunt the Philadelphia Eagles?

The Philadelphia Eagles fell to 2-3 and last place in the NFC East after losing to the Washington Redskins this past Sunday. To make matters worse, their biggest weapon, Brian Westbrook, sustained fractured ribs in the losing effort. So what happens if Westbrook can't go for a couple of weeks? Correll Buckhalter and Lorenzo Booker won't match the output of a healthy Brian Westbrook, but they could do a decent job. But what if I told you the Eagles had a chance to draft a leading candidate for "Offensive Rookie of the Year" this season and they blew it?..........

Fantasy Football Week 6 Rankings - Running Backs

It is already heading into the second weekend of fantasy football in October, and with it brings the great change in the leaves, the mildness to the air and most importantly more hard core Bruno Boys Fantasy Football content. By now, there is definitely some separation from the who are's and the who aren'ts in your leagues. The good news is that if you are doing poorly, you have not been mathematically eliminated yet. And the bad news is that if you are 5-0, this is no time to get cozy. Plenty of things can happen and injuries can fall upon everyone's teams. Whichever position you find yourself in, you can rest assured knowing that the Bruno Boys are here 24/7/365 for your hardcore fantasy football needs!

This week we will be without the running backs for the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

With that being said let's hope for a remarkable Week 6 for yourself, as well as the rest of Bruno Boys Nation. To make that happen, read through the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 6 Running Back Rankings. And remember, these rankings are based on a 2 RB start, 12 team leagues.

Key Abbreviations: YPC (Yards Per Carry), YPG (Yards Per Game)

--------------------

1. Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings) vs. Detroit

As if things couldn't get any worse for my deflated Detroit Lions, they now have the task of stopping one of the most electric RB's in the game in Adrian Peterson. As we have warned in the past, you usually either get really good results or really bad results. Last week we saw pretty ugly, but things should change in Week 6. Peterson should throw up a good 120 yards and 2 TD's to further bring the Detroit Lions season to a close quicker than they had hoped. He is a must start in all fantasy football league formats.
Point Projection: 24 points
