However, the Kentucky spectators are more excited following this game than they have been all season. Reason being that Morgan Newton went down with an early ankle injury and true freshmen Maxwell Smith came in performed admirably. Smith finished the night 26-33 passing for 174 yards with no turnovers. The Kentucky offense was humming along for it’s best FBS performance of the season. So it’s only fair that I eat a little crow, having expressed numerous times that Newton was our best chance to win games. But in my defense, prior to last night Smith was 10-19 passing for 50 yards, 2 INTs, 2 fumbles, & -30 yards rushing. So there wasn’t a lot of evidence that he was ready to help this year.
