Slaton Working to Avoid Sophomore Slump

Steve Slaton had a big rookie year for the Texans, and as the Chronicle wrote on Wednesday, he’ll try to do whatever he can to make sure his second year is another success:
Steve Slaton’s 2008 season wasn’t just nice. It was very nice. So nice that it is understandable to look at his production and [...]

Ahman Green Is Probably Hitting Himself

Early in September 2008, I covered Ahman Green's decision to restructure his contract for less guaranteed money. At the time, I felt that his agent made a smart move in suggesting that Green restructure. Hindsight is 20/20, though, and it looks like it was the wrong decision. Ahman was supposed to make $3.8 million last year before changing the terms, but ended up making much less by not hitting the proposed benchmarks. Green will also never see the $4.8 base salary he was expecting in 2009, because the Texans just let him go.

Ahman Green could not brush off the injury bug and the Texans found a solid running back in Steve Slaton. Why keep Green on the roster, eating $6.5 million in cap space for 2009? Good luck to Ahman in trying to find a team that will give him a contract that has anything more than a marginal base salary laden with multiple benchmarks.
An All Star Snub

So, yesterday the NFL released their list of the Pro Bowl Rosters,
to decide who gets some fun and sun in the annual February exhibition
in Hawaii. However, as is always, with a list, there are arguments, and
us here at the Sportmeisters and InGameNow, we'd like to take this
opportunity to list our all-star snubs.
1. Steve Slaton, Houston RB

That's One Way to Break a Tackle

If this had been, say, Steve Slaton of the Houston Texans and not Joey Walton of Lewiston High School in Idaho, this play would have been challenged by the opposing coach in a heartbeat, and we would have seen about 5 different angles on this cartwheel in slow-motion instant replay, and maybe one of them [...]

Texans' Slaton PWNS Yardbarker's Pelechati

... Steve Slaton tormented our fantasy playoffs last night.
... unless you were me - who rode his 45 yard touchdown run with 2:07 left in an-already-won football game to playoff victory.
Steve Slaton's touchdown was reminiscent of both Chris Duhon's infamous half-court shot to torment gamblers in the Final Four and Oklahoma's 40 yard touchdown with less than a minute to go last week - trying for BCS Style Points.
For the game, Steve Slaton had:
- 30 fantasy points
- 21 rushes for ...

RB Green Set to Go on IR - Texans Career Likley Over

What has been a tough season already for running back Ahman Green is now over, as the Texans are putting the back on injured reserve. This comes just a few days after Green suffered a sprained knee in the teams 16-6 win over the Browns in Cleveland Sunday. The 31-year-old likely has played his last down for the Texans, as he's not likely to be back in 2009 with the emergence of rookie back Steve Slaton.

Lions Comeback Falls Short in 28-21 Loss to Houston

Despite almost blowing a 21-0 lead to the hapless Detroit Lions, the Houston Texans showed enough on Sunday at home to earn their second win of the season, outlasting Detroit 28-21. The Texans jumped on Detroit to go up 21-0 after two first quarter scores and then a Steve Slaton TD early in the second [...]
