FSU's DeMarcus Walker cleared to play by NCAA

DeMarcus Walkers wait is over, albeit too late for him to have gained valuable experience this spring.

The Florida State freshman defensive end was approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse on Friday, more than five months after he graduated from Jacksonville Sandalwood High early and enrolled in college.

Walker, a Scout.com four-star prospect, had planned to get a jump on academics and participate in practice in March and April with the football team. But the NCAA Clearinghouse didnt give him the OK to practice, and Walker was only able to take classes and watch game film with the football coaches.

Nole Nation I just got the best news ever I'm cleared academically now, Walker said on his Twitter. I swear ever school on the schedule is in trouble now FEAR THE SPEAR

Walkers signing was important for Florida State, which lost three defensive ends to the NFL. Now he will compete with the nations top defensive recruit of 2012, Mario Edwards Jr., Dan Hicks and Giorgio Newberry for playing time this fall

FSU has number of starting positions to fill

TALLAHASSEE Florida State had few major position battles the past few seasons.
The Seminoles were starting so many younger players and gaining experience. Or had smooth transitions from a graduating starter to elevating a backup that had received some playing time.
This year is very different. Florida State is replacing four starters on offense and six starters on defense. A few positions will feature natural replacements like freshman kicker Roberto Aguayo for Florida State and ACC career scoring leader Dustin Hopkins. And Chad Abram will take over at fullback for the versatile Lonnie Pryor.
Here is a look at five key position battles for the Seminoles, who won the Atlantic Coast Conference and went 12-2 last season but are in the middle of a spring of change with six new assistants and a number of starting jobs up for grabs.
Quarterback
Starter lost: EJ Manuel (threw for 3,392 yards, 23 TDs and 10 INTs while completing 68 percent of his passes in 2012).
Contenders: Clint Trickett (947 passing yards, 7 TDs

Looking ahead: Challenges await FSU in 2013

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. A new quarterback. The most consistent receiver. At least six new starters on defense. Three new assistant coaches.
And the kicker? Him, too: Florida State also loses the BCS all-time kicking scoring leader.
Florida State is coming off an Atlantic Coast Conference championship and a 31-10 win over Northern Illinois in the Orange Bowl, but reloading will be a challenge with so many new faces.
There are three key storylines for the Seminoles in 2013: Who will replace quarterback EJ Manuel? How does Jeremy Pruitt respond to his first college defensive coordinator job? And how do the young, talented defensive ends fill the gap of Tank Carradine and potentially Bjoern Werner?
Werner has been projected as a top-five overall pick in Aprils NFL Draft if he decides to leave after his junior season. After Florida States win over NIU, Werner said he would take a few days to make his decision.
Bjoern has got to do whats best for Bjoern, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said. Hell make a decision and

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Florida State had comfort in knowing that to replace an All-American they at least had a Tank. And now the job of replacing a Tank falls on two freshmen.

After Brandon Jenkins hurt his foot in the season opener, Tank Carradine turned in an 80-tackle, 11-sack season. But now that Carradine is hurt, there is no clear-cut answer to Florida States dilemma at defensive end.

The options are freshman Mario Edwards Jr., rated by Scout.com as the nations No. 1 player on the defensive side of the ball in the 2012 signing class. And the Seminoles also have redshirt freshman Giorgio Newberry, a four-star prospect coming out of high school.

When Brandon went down, they said, Well, can Tank really do it?" Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said. We thought he could. You never know. Thats how heroes are made, is when guys get an opportunity and step up. Theyre quite capable.

Florida St.-Georgia Tech Preview

Jimbo Fisher said Sunday the team that wins the ACC championship may be the one that does the best job of moving past a crushing loss to its top in-state rival.

Florida State dropped three spots to No. 13 in Sunday's Associated Press Top 25 following a 37-26 loss to Florida. Fisher's Seminoles (10-2) play Georgia Tech, which must regroup following a lopsided 42-10 loss to Georgia, in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship on Saturday. The winner will play in the Orange Bowl.

Even with so much on the line, it's not easy to quickly recover from a loss in a state rivalry game.

''I don't think there's any doubt,'' Fisher said. ''They had a great rivalry game and we did too. You've got to be able to put it behind you quickly and go on. I think that is going to be a big factor, I don't think there's any doubt.''

It's an unlikely matchup. Georgia Tech is only 6-6 overall but won the Coastal Division with a 5-3 ACC record as Miami self-impose

FSU's Tank Carradine out rest of season

TALLAHASSEE Florida State has shown resiliency and found an answer for every injury that has happened this season. The Seminoles will have to do it one more time.

Senior defensive end Tank Carradine, who led the team with 80 tackles and was second with 11 sacks, has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will miss Florida State's final two games.

Carradine hurt his knee in the second half of Florida State's loss to Florida on Saturday.

"He handled it very well," Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said. "Very sad because he wanted to finish the season with his teammates."

Carradine had been an answer to Florida State's first major injury of the season. When All-American defensive end Brandon Jenkins went down with a foot injury in the season opener, Carradine stepped in.

His 11 sacks are second in the Atlantic Coast Conference only to teammate Bjoern Werner, a defensive end who had 3.5 sacks in Saturday's loss to Florida and now has 13 this season.

Even without Jenkins, Seminoles still loaded at DE

Sixth-ranked Florida State hasn't played its second game of the season yet and has already lost two key defensive players for the year.

The team's defensive leader, senior pass rushing star Brandon Jenkins, suffered a season-ending broken foot in Florida State's 69-3 win over Murray State last weekend - just a month after senior cornerback and punt return specialist Greg Reid was kicked off the team.

Coach Jimbo Fisher said Wednesday he's confident the Seminoles have enough talent to help offset the loss of the 6-3, 260-pound Jenkins.

Senior Cornelius ''Tank'' Carradine moves into Jenkins' starting role Saturday against Savannah State while Atlantic Coast Conference defensive lineman of the week Bjoern Werner holds down the other starting end spot. Toshmon Stevens and Giorgio Newberry move into the top backup roles.

FSU to rely on backups with Jenkins out

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Florida States season just took a huge hit with the loss of All-American defensive end Brandon Jenkins.

But if there was one position that the Seminoles could afford to lose a star, its at defensive end.

Florida State players and coach Jimbo Fisher have said this year that senior backup Tank Carradine is like a third starter and that there is no drop-off to him from Jenkins and junior Bjoern Werner.

And now Carradine, who led the team with nine tackles and had a sack in the season-opening win over Murray State, will get the chance to play as a starter on Saturday against Savannah State at 6 p.m.

Hes a starter, said Werner, who had four sacks against Murray State. Hes as good as we are. Youre going to see over the season.

Carradine has played like a starter at FSU. He was considered the nations top junior college defensive end in 2010, and last fall had 38 tackles and 5.5 sacks. Carradine was clearly talented enough to start for most college teams, and now he will be for the rest of the

College Football: Can FSU Seminoles Survive Season Ending Injury To Brandon Jenkins?

The Florida State Seminoles have high expectations as they begin the 2012 College Football season, and a 69-3 victory over the Murray State Racers was certainly a nice way to start their campaign.
But not all of the news was good for FSU, as they have lost another player to a devastating injury that will sideline him for the rest of the season.
Defensive end Brandon Jenkins suffered a Lisfranc injury to his left foot in the romp, and will now miss the rest of this season. Even more devastating for Jenkins is that he made the decision to return for his senior season after recording 21 1/2 sacks over the past two years as a starter for the Seminoles defense.
It is not yet known whether or not Jenkins will end up using a red-shirt season and return next year, or if he will enter the 2013 NFL Draft in April.
While many teams would be unable to replace a player such as Jenkins up front, if there is any team with enough depth and talent on the front line who could survive an injury such a...

FSU's Jenkins will miss season with foot injury

TALLAHASSEE Florida State's defense will be missing its top pass rusher for the rest of the 2012 season.

All-American defensive end Brandon Jenkins will miss the season with a Lisfranc injury to his left foot, the school announced late Monday night.

"Brandon is not only a tremendous player, but a great person, teammate and leader that we will miss," Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said. "I know he'll bounce back and recover to continue a great career."

Jenkins had 21.5 sacks the past two seasons and debated leaping to the NFL after his junior season. He decided to stay, and in an interview this spring told reporters that "at one point, I was gone."

He had a sack in the Seminoles' 69-3 season-opening win over Murray State on Saturday, but left the game in the first half with the injury. He walked from the sideline to the locker room, putting weight on both feet.

Fisher said after Saturday's game and again during his Monday afternoon press conference that Jen
