Chiefs vs. Falcons Pre Game Gab

After 11 straight losses the Chiefs will once again attempt to rebound , this week the Chiefs will be playing a Atlanta Falcons team who also went 4-12 and is playing a young quarterback, former Boston College star Matt Ryan. The Dirty Birds have a slew of young players that are receiving significant playing time to go with a running attack that features breakout future Pro Bowl running back Michael Turner. Atlanta will be looking to go 2-1 and have their first winning record in quite some time.
In a game that will feature two quarterbacks with less than 3 career starts the Falcons would appear to have the advantage as they will be starting third pick in the draft Matt Ryan. The Chiefs will be giving former seventh round pick Tyler Thigpen his first career start. Expect this game to feature a lot of turnovers Matt Ryan struggled last week and you can bet after the Chiefs gave up 300 yards rushing to the Raiders, Gunther will be in lab trying to formulate a game plan to confuse the rookie QB.

Keys to the game

1. Get Larry Johnson on track: Make no mistake about Larry Johnson is still a dominant running back. The Chiefs and more specifically Chan Gailey need to figure out how to integrate L.J. into their new offense. L.J. let his frustrations boil over after the Raiders game saying he did not think he was part of the Chiefs future any longer and that the writing was on the wall. Herm has came out and denied L.J. is being phased out. A negative L.J. in the locker room could be very detrimental to a young football teams morale when the are set to go through a season where the will lose more games than they win. Bottom line L.J. needs to have a hundred yard game before he has a complete melt down.

2. Don't let Michael Turner look like Darren McFadden: Granted Darren McFadden is a special player but not a special as he looked against the Chiefs last week. The epic collapse of the Chiefs rush defense had more to do with the young players trying to make plays, not maintaining their gaps and making mental mistakes than there being a lack of talent on defense or a major flaw in the defensive scheme.
Glen Dorsey has yet to make a large impact for the Chiefs, if the Chiefs are going to sure up their run defense it has two start with the fifth selection in the draft Glen Dorsey..

3.Tyler Thigpen: Tyler Thigpen is not going to lose this game for the Chiefs, Herm Edwards said in his weekly press conference that if Thigpen struggles he won't hesitate to insert Damon Huard. Huard is a game manager he is not going to win the game for you or lose the game for you the Chiefs need to someone to win the game for them. If Huard comes into the game after Thigpen struggles and the Chiefs win the game it will not generate the same buzz in K.C. that it would if a young QB like Thigpen made plays and actually won a game. Thigpen needs to build on the momentum he aquirred late in the fourth quarter against the Raiders. Kansas City's offense cannot go without a point guard to distribute the ball to it's play makers, Tyler Thigpen will have a bigger impact on the outcome of this game than any other one player………… Chan Gailey needs to find a way to make sure it is a positive impact.

How the Falcons Offseason Has Gone So Far

For my first blog I would like to talk about how the Atlanta Falcons have addressed their most glaring needs during this offseason:
1. Two Offensive Tackles: The Falcons offensive line needs major revamping, one that gave up 47 sacks last season. To address this need the Atlanta Falcons drafted Sam Baker and re-signed Tyson Clabo.
2. Quarterback: The Falcons need to have a [...]
