Why would the Raiders talk Javon Walker out of retiring? They could get their money back and rid themselves of this failure. It is only going to get worse.

I think John Fox made a statement to his team with the suspension of Steve Smith. He let his team know he is in control.

If I needed a wide out, I might call and make the Panthers an offer for Smith. It might be the right time.

I hope the Alvin Bowen injury in Buffalo is not a start of more injuries for the Bills. They need to avoid the injury bug this year.

The Commissioner has to rule on Monday. He has given Green Bay enough time and I wonder how other teams are going to be treated when they have a player that is retired. Teams remember when other teams get special treatment and clearly the Pack has gotten some extra attention.

The Raiders are really struggling with their offensive line. If Marlo Henderson cannot beat out Cornell Green, then they might have blown that pick.

New England must be a tackle short. They put Anthony Clement on IR today and signed Barry Stokes. This behavior makes it appear as if the Pats are not happy with their OT depth.

Today was the day when most teams held their intra-squad game conditions practice. Coaches will study this tape to determine who gets playing time next week.

At this point in camp, coaches should make a list of the five things that can improve their team in 08 and 09. Then, they should hand that list to their personnel guys so that they can find the answers.

The Chiefs are very thin as a team. Losing Brandon Albert is really going to hurt them. I keep saying this because it's true: the Chiefs need to get good before they get great. They have a very long way to go.

If I was still pro-scouting in the league, I would make sure I knew the Chargers inside and out. They have been drafting for the future in the last two drafts and may cut some very good players because of their talent base.

Patriots Sign Four Players

Two days before the start of training camp, the?Patriots signed four new players yesterday.? They are veteran offensive tackle Anthony Clement, wide receiver Chris Dunlap, quarterback Kevin O'Connell, and linebacker Shawn Crable.? O'Connell was the 94th overall draft pick this year, Crable the 78th.

Best free agents for the Oakland Raiders to target

Almost daily, I read comments from the Raider Nation contemplating, proposing, and even campaigning for free agents that they'd like to see the Oakland Raiders sign. Until June 1st, it's unlikely the Raiders will sign many, if any free agents. According to Fox Sports, the Raiders are sitting at $106,555,076, while the cap is $116 million. That leaves only $9,444,924, roughly a little less that Nnamdi Asomugha is due when he signs his tender for being the Raiders franchise player. Since the Raiders somehow always find a way to fit everyone under the cap, it's not out of the realm of possibility that they may find a way to sign a few of these free agents still available.

Trades LB ? Jonathan Vilma to Saints ? This is the worst move by the Jets since drafting Kyle Brady over Warren Sapp. They are trading away one of the best Linebackers in the game for a 4th round pick and a possible 3rd and 4th next year. Why trade this young, fast and extremely talented LB? He didn't fit the system? When you have a player as talented as Vilma you make the system fit him. Imagine having David Harris and Vilma playing together for the next ten years. Mark my words, unless NY picks up a top rate superstar LB this trade will haunt the Jets in the years to come DT ? Kris Jenkins from Panthers ? Great job by Tannenbaum picking up one of the best defensive tackles in the game. Finally the Jets are picking up players that "fit the system."
