New York Giants News & Notes: Ugly Loss Hangover

I've remained pretty optimistic about the Giants all season, thinking there was no way that the team which looked so good in going 5-0 could really be as bad as they looked against the Saints and the Eagles. Tough losses to the Cardinals and Chargers didn't even bother me as much as they otherwise would, because the Giants easily could have won those games. But the loss to the Broncos is the worst yet, and has me doubting whether the Giants are even a playoff team, let alone a Sup...

Less talk and more action

After getting stomped on by the Broncos on Thanksgiving night, the Giants are in denial. This is a bad team. Here is more of Coach Coughlin's dribble about making corrections. Q. Bill Sheridan has come under fire. Have you spoken with him? Do you want to get more involved in the defense?TC: There is certain aspects that have to be corrected. Those are the areas that basically when I talk to the defensive staff after I evaluate a film. I go in and we talk about the things that need to be c...

How the Giants' Biggest Strength Has Become Their Kryptonite

For the past few seasons, the New York Giants' bread and butter has been their offensive line and pass rush.

Now, it appears that their bread has gone stale and the butter has been sitting in a busted refrigerator for over a year.

Tom Coughlin came to the Giants with an agenda. He started coaching in a different generation but knew that the key to winning laid with the big men.

A stellar pass rush coupled with a tone-setting offensive line could keep a team in any gam...

After 2009, will Robbins and Cofield be Giants?

Next year, starting defensive tackles Fred Robbins and Barry Cofield may not be wearing blue. There is several reasons for the Giants not to retain Robbins and Cofield. They are in the last year of their current contracts, suffered knee injuries, and they have not played at a high level. In addition, Giants GM Jerry Reese broke the bank this past off season on defensive linemen Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard. Canty signed a six year 42 million dollar deal. And Bernard inked a four year 16 mill...

There are certain expectations around here and we don't handle losing too well. It's not a normal thing to be dealing with, and on top of that, we're going to Philly. I know you've written about last season's phone incident [with Donovan McNabb] and it's not like that's the most respectable thing a guy can do. But it's not like we need that for motivation. We're always going to want to kill Donovan McNabb -- even if he's the nicest guy in the world. ...

Barry Cofield chatted with ESPN’s Matt Mosley today, here is the transcript:
Defensive ends Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora get a lot of attention, but the mainstay of the Giants’ defensive line since ‘06 has been defensive tackle Barry Cofield. He was taken in the fourth round out of Northwestern in ‘06 and he immediately became [...]

Cofield Didn’t Have Microfracture Knee Surgery:

From Profootballtalk.com
One week after questions were raised about whether New York Giants defensive tackle Barry Cofield underwent microfracture knee surgery, Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that Cofield didn’t have microfacture surgery.
Instead, it was “just a complicated/advanced scope,” Garafolo wrote on his Twitter account, citing multiple sources.

Did Cofield Have Microfracture Knee Surgery?

In the wake of New York Giants defensive lineman Fred Robbins’ disclosure that he had microfracture knee surgery before later removing the information from his blog, questions are being raised about the extent of fellow defensive tackle Barry Cofield’s offseason knee surgery.
Cofield recently characterized his repair procedure as “an advanced scope,” according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.
