Royals notebook: DeJesus moving up club charts for outfield assists

CLEVELAND | However slender the chance for David DeJesus to win a Gold Glove — no full-time left fielder has done so in the American League since Rickey Henderson in 1981 — he continues to climb the Royals’ career and single-season charts for outfield assists. DeJesus got two more assists Friday night when the Royals extended their winning streak to five games with a 2-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians in 12 innings at Progressive Field.

David DeJesus tries to make an over-aggressive play in left field, and it ends up cost Zack Greinke a run. Choo hit a high fly ball deep down the leftfield line. Brilliant reader Preston sent in this gem. David DeJesus leads the Kansas City Royals with 46 walks. That is one behind Los Angeles’ Matt Kemp, who has 47 walks. OK … so what’s the big deal?
Here’s the big deal: Matt Kemp is EIGHTH on the Dodgers in walks. Eighth.

He’s far from a neutral observer, but count Rusty Kuntz among those pushing Royals left fielder David DeJesus for Gold Glove consideration. “Wow, he’s playing as solid a left field as I’ve ever seen anybody play,” gushed Kuntz, who serves as the club’s outfield coach. “He has a better understanding of the importance of positioning — where to move on certain hitters.

David DeJesus is a fine defensive left fielder. Fine defensive left fielders don't win Gold Gloves

Well, look. I understand the hometeam's broadcast will tilt toward PR for the hometeam. There are a number of reasons, including the one Frank White has mentioned a few times: "We have to get on the plane with these guys."
But are we really to the point where we're going to push David DeJesus for a Gold Glove?
There are any number of reasons this is silly, starting with the fact left fielders don't win Gold Gloves, and especially not left fielders who are moved ...

According to Royals Report one of the bigger Royals blogs, Kansas City has quietly been recieving calls about Mark Teahan, David DeJesus and some of their relievers. No specific teams have been mentioned and it doesn't sound like there have been any substantial offers, but I passed it along because the Mets have had a long history of trading with the Royals, including during Omar's admin. and Teahan would be a perfect fit...Real quiet at this point for the #Royals on the trade front.
Royals notebook: DeJesus hoping interleague games provide key to unlock production

CLEVELAND | Perhaps outfielder David DeJesus can use the boost that interleague competition typically provides to jump-start his disappointing season. The Royals open a 15-game stretch tonight against National League opponents when Cincinnati comes to Kauffman Stadium for the first time since 1999. Arizona and St. Louis complete a nine-game homestand before the Royals hit the road for Houston and Pittsburgh.

Lineup Literacy: Week 3

The first two weeks of the 2007 Fantasy Baseball season are about to come to a close. That means that now's the time to put the last 2 weeks behind you and turn your attention to week three. While the first 2 weeks of the 2007 season have been frustrating to many as rain, sleet, and snow have postponed many games, comfort can be taken in the fact that those games will be made up at a later date. Those mid-summer makeup games will come in handy during the stretch run of your fantasy season. That is of course if you can keep your head above water until then. If the weather and cold starts has your head spinning already, just remember the season is a marathon and rabbits don't necessarily make good long-distance runners. All you can do is make the most of every free agent move and put the right guys on the field. Fortunately the GNUru is here to help with your week 3 lineup decisions.
