NFL News: Cribbs, Panthers, Roy Willaims and Co.

After making the Pro Bowl as a kick returner last season, Josh Cribbs believes he can help the Browns in other ways. Apparently, offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski agrees. Cribbs has been catching passes as well as taking handoffs during offseason workouts. The Browns figure if Cribbs gets the ball in space more often, he can threaten defenses with the same open-field moves that have made him dangerous on returns. The Bears have benefited from getting Devin Hester involved in their offense. The Browns would love similar results from Cribbs. . . .

The Panthers feel better equipped to make opponents pay for double-teaming WR Steve Smith. Muhsin Muhammad, who used to be an effective sidekick for Smith, has returned after a stint with the Bears. Offseason pickup D.J. Hackett adds depth to the receiving unit, and Dwayne Jarrett will get an opportunity for more playing time. Meanwhile, QB Jake Delhomme is ahead of schedule in his recovery from elbow surgery. If Delhomme returns to form and rookie RB Jonathan Stewart adds pop to the running game, Smith could find himself running free more often. . . .

It does not bode well for the Bucs that QB Jeff Garcia and RB Earnest Graham want new contracts. Both are veterans who carry clout in the locker room, and if they continue to express their un-happiness, it could damage chemistry. Graham has skipped some voluntary workouts, and Garcia has hinted he could hold out during training camp. You can almost picture coach Jon Gruden making one of his faces. . . .

Though several teams have interest in WR Roy Williams, the Lions are not likely to trade him. Even if the Lions and Williams can't agree on a new deal, the team can place the franchise tag on him to keep him in Detroit through the 2009 season. Having Williams and Calvin Johnson at wideout is one of the Lions' strengths. There is no reason to break up that combo for anything less than an overwhelming offer. . . .

Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell insists his weight will not be an issue. The 6-6 Russell says he weighed 269 pounds at minicamp and that he was never close to 300, as had been rumored during the offseason. A protracted training camp holdout ruined Russell's rookie season, and he wants to prove he was worthy of being a No. 1 pick. Russell has a big frame and will never be svelte, but he needs to get closer to his listed weight of 255 to improve his mobility and stamina. . . .

A groin injury to Bengals LB Ahmad Brooks has slowed his transition from the middle to the strong side and is putting him in danger of losing his starting spot. First-round pick Keith Rivers has been playing on the weak side, MLB Odell Thurman has returned from his substance abuse suspension, and Darryl Blackstock has the inside track to start on the strong side.

Looking at the addition the Panthers made, it looks like a "Superbowl or bust" season for John Fox. I (like every Eagle fan) hope the Panthers have a terrible season so we have a higher 1st round draft pick. But it's looking more and more like a mid rounder with each passing day.

Are the Cleveland Browns the team to beatin the AFC North?

Wow, have the Cleveland Browns turned their team around. Derek Anderson bloomed into a fantastic quarterback after the team shipped out Charlie Frye to Seattle last season. In return, Anderson received a three year deal with the team to become the starting quarterback for at least this season. Sophomore player Brady Quinn will look to give some healthy competition to attempt to win that job during training camps. On top of already having Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow, Willie McGinest, Joshua Cribbs, and a few other decent names, the Browns have gone out to try and fix a few more pieces to the puzzle to attempt to win a seemingly pitiful AFC North. Big spenders during the first few days of free agency, the Browns picked up WR Donte Stallworth who played last season with the New England Patriots, traded cornerback Leigh Bodden to the Detroit Lions in exchange for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers, and traded the Green Bay Packers for defensive tackle Corey Williams. They also chose to resign running back Jamal Lewis to a three year deal. Lewis came over from the Baltimore Ravens, an AFC North rival, and seemed to revitalize his career. The Browns are taking the next step to try and win the AFC North, which it seems as though the Browns will battle it out with the Pittsburgh Steelers with their revised roster going into the 2008 season.

Sheldon Brown Vs Donovan Mcnabb? The CB has words for the QB...

Sheldon Brown says Mcnabb "threw teammates under the bus" with his play makers comment a week ago. There have been a rash of comments from Brown that suggest he is not happy with anything the Eagles are doing. But heres a thought Sheldon, how about playing better! I watched you get torched by a hobbled Plaxico Burress in the game that closed the door on our playoff run before it even started. Now I like Sheldon Brown, I like a guy who is not afraid to speak his mind, but the fact that his performance on the field has been sub par makes it easy to throw darts right back at him. When Mcnabb said we need play makers, he was absolutely right. Look at the defense! 0 defensive touchdowns. Look at the special teams! Eagles didn't have even one return past the 50!!! In this generation of Devin Hesters and Josh Cribbs, we can't find a guy who can break 1 kickoff or punt return?? This is madness! NO! THIS IS PHILADELPHIA EAGLES FOOTBALL! BOOF!(Thats the sound of me kicking you and the rest of the Eagles team in the ass because frankly I think you guys need a nice boot to the rear to get your mouths out of the media and back to talking about winning a super bowl.) So you can talk Sheldon, but please, can you try playing better? No one really though William James was gonna challenge you by the way. But maybe the rookie they bring in will, or maybe even Joselio Hanson. Nothing is guaranteed. GO EAGLES!

Fbkid's all underrated team offense

It has been a great year so far in the NFL and the playoffs are only making it better but not all is well for everyone on this list. These are all players who put up big numbers and are productive but they don't get their due. Here is the offense of my all underrated team.

QB: Matt Hasselbeck Seahawks: Hasselbeck always is consistent and puts up big numbers but for some reason never gets publicity. Hasselbeck's rating was over 90 this season with 28 touchdowns and had 3,966 yards. Trust me if you have him on your fantasy team you won't forget who he is.

RB: Justin Fargas Raiders: I bet coming into the season more people knew that Fargas'dad played Huggy Bear on "Starsky and Hutch" than the fact that his son is on the Raiders. Fargas came into his own this year though with 1000 yards on less than 225 carries. You may not know him know but Fargas is going to get some major money this offseason.

WR:Marques Colston Saints: Colston was one of the most talked about players in football last year but now he's considered underrated? That's because the myth of the Sophomore slump. As most people thought Colston would have a poor 2nd season,he did even better with 98 catches 1200 yards and 11 touchdowns. Wow that's some slump.

WR:Brandon Marshall Broncos: Heading into the season Marshall was overlooked as Javon Walker was supposed to be the no.1 receiver in Denver. A few weeks later Walker went down and Marshall had a great year. Marshall had 102 catches for 1325 yards and 7 touchdowns. He might also be the best receiver after the catch in the league.

WR:Jerricho Cotchery Jets: Cotchery this season as the new go to guy. The problem was the team was so bad nobody noticed. Cotchery had 82 catches for 1130 yards and 2 touchdowns. Imagine what that would be with a full time quarterback.

TE: Chris Cooley Redskins: Cooley was one of the most productive tight ends in the league but hardly gets the credit of the Antonio Gates and Kellen Winslow's of the league. Cooley was 4th among all tight ends in receptions with 66 and had more touchdowns than Winslow and Tony Gonzalez with 8. That kind of year is why Cooley will be enjoying Hawaii in February.

T:Jason Peters Bills:Peters went from an undrafted free agent to a quality tackle and is getting rewarded going to Hawaii. He is the major reason why Marshawn Lynch had over 1100 yards in his rookie season.

G: Steve Hutchinson Vikings: For what Hutchinson does he doesn't get enough credit. There is a reason why Sean Alexander looks like an average back when he leaves. Just look at Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor now.

C.Jeff Saturday Colts: To read the defense and make constant changes at the line is something Saturday excels at. Without it the Colts might be a totally different team. He compliments Peyton Manning perfectly.

G:Vince Manuwai Jaguars: Manuwai has improved in every season and is opening holes for one of the best running attacks in all of football. Don't be surprised if he gets to Hawaii soon.

T: Michael Roos Titans: Roos has established himself as one of the best young tackles in the league but hasn't got he credit he deserves. In the next few years he will be in Hawaii.

KR: Josh Cribbs Browns: Cribbs is a do it all player as he averaged over 30 yards per return and took 2 back for touchdowns. He also added 1 punt return score. Cribbs averages 9 yards more per kick return for Devin Hester and what one gets all of the hype? Plus Cribbs is a gunner on special teams and had 20 special teams tackles.
