Manny Acta: Best Odds to be first MLB manager toget fired in 2009?
With a 5-15 start, the knives are being sharpened in some corners of Nats Town. Now it appears that Vegas doesn't like Manny's chances, either. According to BetFirms dot com, BetUS Sportsbook has set the odds for Manny Acta being fired at 2/1:

There are several coaches that have to start wondering if they should put the house on the market, including Manny Acta of the Washington Nationals (2/1), Ron Washington of the Texas Rangers (4/1), and Cecil Cooper of the Houston Astros (4/1). You also can’t feel comfortable if you are Eric Wedge of Cleveland (5/1), Clint Hurdle of the Rockies (5/1), Ken Macha in Milwaukee (6/1), Joe Giarardi of the Yankees (6/1), Bob Geren of the Oakland A’s (7/1), Fredi Gonzalez of Florida (8/1), Bruce Bochy in San Francisco (8/1), or Joe Maddon in Tampa (8/1).
Interestingly, odds on Jerry Manuel getting fired are at 12/1. Remember, that's ...

Andruw Jones' Career at an End?

Is Andruw Jones out of time - and out of options? The former All-Star centerfielder, who at one point in his distinguished career with the Atlanta Braves was considered by some a future Hall of Famer, has floundered badly the past several seasons. The numbers he put on the board were among the worst in the majors. But the Texas Rangers invited him to Spring Training on a minor-league camp. Jones' contract gave the Rangers until March 20 to either put him on the 40-man roster or release him. But Friday rolled around and the Rangers showed no interest in putting Jones on the 40-man roster, so Jones and the team agreed to wait until Monday, March 23.Jones clearly wants to remain with the Rangers, even though the team has made it clear that his best chance at making the team - which may be slim anyway - is as a backup. Jones told the Dallas Morning News:"We've got to the 23rd to make a decision and see what's going to happen. I don't know yet. I would love to be here. All these guys are great guys. They all pull together, and I think we've got a great team." Jones has been playing mostly in minor-league games lately, not appearing in the Rangers' past six "A" games. Manager Ron Washington sounded the only optimistic tone about Jones, saying he has looked better in batting practice of late.

2007 Salaries of Managers in MLB

As a Yankees fan, i'm glad to see him go, esp after this generous offer turndown. i was thinking in the same way where he should be offered the top salary of all managers at about $4 million dollars with incentives. He knows that he should stay with the Yankees and if he truly cared about the Yankees then money shouldn't be a facor (As long as he is making more than most of the other managers). It must be a pride thing now.

If he decides to go to another team next year, he will not be paid anywhere near his salary of $7.5 million and of course will need to really start to manage with his subpar equiped team, ending his legacy of one of the greatest MLB managers.

The Yankees are in need of a change. Hopefully they can get someone like girardi in there and start brining up the young fellas.....

Here is the list of Salaries of all mangers in the MLB

2007 Manager Salaries

Joe Torre, NYY $7.5 million
Lou Piniella, CHC $3.5 million
Bobby Cox, ATL $3 million

Sheffield Might Not Be 100% Right, But He's 100% Truthful

Gary Sheffield thinks he has a handle on why there aren't more African-American baseball players at the big league level. He said as much in the latest issue of GQ magazine.

My take? The black major leaguers must be where all the black GMs and black managers are.

Baseball hasn't been a forerunner of civil rights, that's for sure. Doesn't mean that its been against them, of course, but nor have they been a standard bearer.

MLB missed out on some pretty darn good players in the 1920s and 1930s -- black sluggers and pitchers who surely would have found their way into Cooperstown as big leaguers, had more than just the baseball been white, back in the day.

Even after Jackie Robinson's debut in 1947, baseball took its sweet time, as other teams responded to the Brooklyn Dodgers' groundbreaking move like tortoises moving uphill. The Boston Red Sox didn't employ a black ballplayer until the 1960s were almost upon us, for goodness sakes. When Hank Aar...

The Tao of New A's Manager Ron Washington

The Feed put together a list of quotes from Oakland's new skipper. Ron Washington sounds like he's doing his best interpretation of Yogi Berra reading from The Art of War. Here's an example.

On non-roster players chances of making the team - "The only thing I promise is an opportunity and I fully expect them to take advantage of that. Those that can handle it will show up. And those that can't handle it will show down."
