Titans select California TE Craig Stevens in 3rd round

The Titans grabbed a TE in the third round, selecting Craig Stevens out of California.

Stevens, a 6′4″ 252 lb TE, is described as a high character guy with good blocking skills and the ability to catch the football. His athleticism is limited, but he is a guy who provides some depth at the TE position.

Grading Titan free agency moves

Free agency has been upon us for a little less than a month. Unlike franchises such as the Raiders and the Jets, that have threw seemingly countless dollars at free agents in their attempts to transform into playoff contenders, the Titans have adopted a slow and steady approach to improving their ballclub.

Here's my take on how the Titans should be graded for the moves they have made in free agency thus far:

Fantasy Football Bruno Boys - Who Would You Rather Own In 2008?

With fantasy football drafts less than 9 months away, the Bruno Boys bring to you their first segment of "Who Would You Rather Own in 2008". Bruno Boys Fantasy Football writers Marc Caviglia and Chris Ziza give you their expert analysis on which players they are targeting heading into 2008.
———————————————————

1. QB Tom Brady (NE) or QB Tony Romo (DAL) or QB Peyton Manning (IND)

Bruno Boys Caviglia: Give me Tom Brady baby! We all know Brady's 50 touchdown passes will be tough to repeat, but even if he throws between 35-40 touchdowns, he still is the top quarterback heading into 2008. If Brady's on the board late in the first round, I'd take the gamble on him. However, if you are looking for consistency, than you have to go with Peyton Manning. In his 10 year NFL career, he has never thrown for less than 26 touchdown passes and has surpassed 4,000 passing yards in 8 of those 10 seasons. Finally, if you consider yourself a risk taker, think about Tony Romo. He is fresh off a 36 touchdown season, and has the receiving corps to have another stellar season.

Bruno Boys Ziza: To me that is a tough one. Tom Brady is coming off a career year, but it seemed as if by the end of the season teams had figured them out some, and I believe the Patriots will be going to more of a running game. Manning was consistent as always, but not worthy of his normal first round draft status and Tony Romo had a very solid, yet unspectacular season. My money would be on Peyton Manning. As much as I am sure Brady would be the popular choice to most, Manning is the only QB on this board that has put up great numbers year after year. Falling back to reality somewhat would not surprise me with Brady, making Manning the man I would call on if I were in need of a QB.
———————————————————
2. QB Philip Rivers (SD) or QB Jay Cutler (DEN)

Bruno Boys Ziza: To me, this is a no-brainer. Even when the Chargers brought in Chris Chambers, Philip Rivers never was able to find any type of consistent production. Jay Cutler, on the other hand, had less weapons to work with, went through some growing pains, but he is now entering his third full-season. I expect him to grow even more this year, and since it is starting to look as if Rivers may never piece things together, my money is on Cutler.

Bruno Boys Caviglia: One of the guys I will be targeting in all leagues next year is Jay Cutler. Last year, Cutler threw 12 TD's to 6 INT's over the last 8 games, and finished the season with a 63.6 completion percentage, which is good for 3rd all-time in Denver Broncos history. With Brandon Marshall deveolping into a top tier wide receiver and the Broncos starting to properly use Tony Scheffler, Cutler should be a top 10 quarterback in 2008. As for Philip Rivers, he also caught fire towards the end of the season (11 TD's to 5 INT's over the last 8 games), but overall he dipped in production from 2006 to 2007. I believe both quarterbacks are fantasy football worthy, but with the San Diego Chargers having the better running game, it will be Cutler who has more opportunity to shine and post better statistics in 2008.
———————————————————

2008 NFL Expert Picks, Predictions and Fantasy Football Notes - AFC South

You and I both know that NFL football is the greatest sport on the planet. Hell, neither one of us would be sitting here talking about it in the middle of March if it wasn't right?

Now speaking of the best, today I'd like to share my thoughts with you on what is arguably one of the best - if not the best - division in football; the AFC South. Need proof? Look no further than last years playoffs. Three teams made the tourney. Top to bottom, this division should be about as competitive as it gets in 2008.

How does it stack up? Take a look.

Mike Reinfeldt is OK with me

It was easy for Titans fans to be upset with new GM Mike Reinfeldt a year ago and I was among those voicing their displeasure.

The new GM had the temerity to place "dollar values" on players, as if calculating their worth as assets on a balance sheet. I was critical when the Titans lost their leading rusher and two leading receivers in free agency because other teams made better offers to them.

Hindsight shows that Reinfeldt was right, at least in the short-term, which was the 2007 season. Travis Henry, Drew Bennett and Bobby Wade posted less than impressive stats last year and the teams who paid big bucks for them certainly got much less than they bargained for...

Rumor with a source haha Eagles turn to Lions Williams and Rams Holt?

Finally some news that wasnt started by someone who was just sitting around.
As reported by Geoff Mosher,

The Eagles came up short in their pursuit of Randy Moss and watched as Javon Walker signed Wednesday with Oakland.

Now, the search for a wide receiver will likely turn to the name most frequently mentioned as their primary target -- Arizona Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald, who remains in contract negotiations with the club that drafted him.

Lions wideout Roy Williams, mercurial Bengals receiver Chad Johnson and Rams veteran Torry Holt are logical choices for the Eagles to pursue if they can't land Fitzgerald.

And based on reports coming out of Arizona, a new deal between the Cardinals and Fitzgerald is imminent.

Earlier this week, Fitzgerald told the East Valley (Ariz.) Tribune that progress has been made toward an extension and restructuring of his contract, which pays him $14.6 million in 2008 and $17.4 million in 2009, the final year of his contract.

Fitzgerald is even speaking like a Cardinal for the long term.

"In January, next year, when we're deep in the playoffs, this thing won't be an issue," he told the newspaper.

The sooner the deal is completed, the quicker the Eagles can move on to other pursuits.

One agent who does not represent Williams told The News Journal that Williams "is definitely on the [trading] block."

Williams, entering his fifth season, made the Pro Bowl in 2006 and had 838 yards and five touchdowns in a 14-game 2007 season. In 2006, he finished with 1,310 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

But Lions coach Rod Marinelli told reporters at the NFL scouting combine last month that he didn't see Williams going anywhere.

"I'm very confident he's here," Marinelli said, according to MLive.com. "Very confident."

The Bengals have echoed similar sentiments about Johnson, who went public this off-season with his gripes about the franchise. Despite Johnson's eccentric behavior and harsh comments about the team, the Bengals have said that Johnson isn't being shopped around.

"No one within the Bengals organization has ever spoken of or ever uttered anything about trading Chad Johnson. Nor will he be traded," coach Marvin Lewis told the Cincinnati Enquirer in February.

As for Holt, the seven-time Pro Bowler has flown under the trade radar, but the Rams might find their rebuilding effort easier if they trade the 31-year-old star receiver.

Holt, signed for two more years, is slated to make $5.65 in base salary in 2008 and $6.65 next season, excluding bonuses. His agent, Greg Williams, said he called the Rams at the end of the season to discuss their plans for Holt but hadn't heard back.

"I didn't know if they would be rebuilding or looking to trade [Holt] or if he'd be there to play out his contract," Williams said. "I think if they were going to do something, they would let us know. From my understanding, they have every intention of bringing him back."

Are the Titans looking for a number one receiver?

Entering free agency, the primary need for the Titans in the minds of many was a number one receiver. Roydell Williams, Brandon Jones and Justin Gage have proven to be capable receivers in the league but neither of them will be mistaken for Terrell Owens or Randy Moss in the foreseeable future.

Surprisingly, the only free agent wide receiver to visit Baptist Sports Park so far is former Titan Justin McCareins, whose measly nineteen catches last year equals to roughly one-fifth of Chad Johnson's production during the 2007 season.

So why haven't the Titans pursued the number one threat that their offense so desperately needs?

Alge Crumpler likes his QBs mobile and inaccurate

Michael Vick's favorite target Alge Crumpler has decided that the best fit for him is with the Tennessee Titans. Crumpler gets a two-year deal worth just more than $5 million, including a $1 million signing bonus, not the kind of huge money Crumpler thought he was going to get but not bad for a guy with questions about his knees and who used the press last year to air his complaints about the coaching staff.
Crumpler should fit right in with the Titans QB, he's already used to catching passes from a mobile QB who has piss poor accuracy.

Titans agree to terms with former Falcons tight end Crumpler

The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with free agent tight end Alge Crumpler on two-year contract, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

Crumpler is expected to sign the contract on Monday.

Crumpler was one of the Falcons most respected players and a leader in the locker room. He twice led the Falcons in receptions and had a streak of four consecutive Pro Bowl appearances from 2003-06.

But Crumpler was plagued by knee problems this past season, and was limited to 10 starts in 14 games. He his numbers dropped off as a result, as the seven-year veteran finished with 42 receptions for 444 yards and five touchdowns. Also, he counted $5.1 million against the salary cap for 2008, money the Falcons felt could be better spent elsewhere.

Former Titans tight end Ben Hartsock signed with the Falcons on Sunday. The team's top tight end, Bo Scaife, is a restricted free agent, while fellow tight end Ben Troupe is an unrestricted free agent and has attracted attention in the free agent market.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
