Philly Fans are So Optimistic im starting To Become a Pessimist!!!

THe title says all......Its ok to say your team is going to be better this year than last year, but to make bold predictions like they are going to win the super bowl, i dont kknow man/woman especially after last years display of mediocrity at best....I know I didnt say Giants were going to win the Super Bowl until the playoffs started...THat being said I have nothing against the fans, its just funny how optimistic these fans are, like honestly relax till the season starts...geez St Louis I thought Cowboys fans were addicted to their team, Im starting to think Eagles are up their. So as wild as it maybe underneath sorry, I numbered 6 or 7 topics in which I copy and pasted Eagles fans quotes....I commented on as well..So feel free to say what you want.....keep it peaceful and respectful which really is hard for a lot of people.....

1)Some People Saying McNabb best QB in NFC....Until that old Fart Favre leaves, Your Number 2 graduate of Syracuse.....Eli is 3 and Romo is 4....Hasselwack is 5 cuz hes sister in law is a dumbass....

2) Steve Smith coming to Eagles-->"Steve Smith is one of the best receivers in the game and if we landed him we would have another weapon for McNabb and someone who can take the pressure off of Westbrook. The Eagles have been trying to land a big name receiver all off season and now is there time. If we really want to go for it we need to get Steve Smith. We could try trading Lito and a first. Although that probably wouldn't work we could try another offer for Smith. I would give Lito and both first round picks for Smith."

(STEVE SMITH ISNT GOING ANYWHERE RELAX)

3) EAGLES DBS--->FIrst Ill start with saying they were 19th ranked in pass defense last year....my Giants were 11th and thats saying something because I felt that was the weakest part of our Defense but that was all attributed to Sam Madison getting burned....we held our ground though in playoffs....so here are optimist and bias quotes from Eagles fans on their DBS being number 1...

"Brian Dawkins, Asante Samuel, Lito Sheppard, Sheldon Brown, Quentin Mikell, Sean Considine..... need I say anymore?"--->gr8 on paper like most teams but when its time to play, whole different story....

"Plaxico Burress and TO twice a year for the Eagles shows how the Eagles secondary isnt amazing and at best average if not for Brian Dawkins....Asante Samuel should have stayed in NE where there were no recievers in his division or QBS from the teams in AFC east."-->I SAID THIS AND SOME DUDE REPLIED Underneath!!!!

"Booker are u crazy quit hatin on the eagles Plax ill admit has been a problem but TO doesnt do much with Lito on him except drop passes and get mad at the qb. i think after the first 10 posts most of us lose focus on wht the actual topic was except booker hes just a hater that needs to go be vick's celly"-->Phillyfannaz--->

(Im a hater on a 19th ranked passs defense? Maybe if you stop the Giants WR then Ill give them respect, untill then only bright spot in your secondary is Brian Dawkins)

"oh and my reasons.....sheppard is a pro bowl player...brown is a great hitter and evryone knows he is good enough to go to the pro bowl samuel is a pro bowl player dawkins is one of the best of all time and still has gas in the tank to flourish with the big 3 around him (u heard of the celtics KG pierce and allen, well this is asante lito and sheldon) and then quintin mikell knows how to play in this defense and is a solid safety to have with all the other stars"----> PRO BOWLS DONT GET YOU TO SUPER BOWL,,,Case in Point NYG last year, Pittsburgh Steelers years back and the Bucs a couple years prior.....

4) WHEN AN EAGLE FAN STRIKES HE STRIKES WITH GR8 Language--->

"I Am A Top Contributor On Yardbarker And Other Eagles Fans Do Like Me. You Guys Suck And Annt74 Suck To" (HAHAHAH)

"how are the eagles worse? their linebacking core is 2 times better than last year, their secondary is the best in the league they have a really good returner in deshawn jackson. You cant just say something and not back it up. How does the O-line for the redskins get better when they get a year older? Just because they got jason taylor doesnt make their defense that much better, its one player who would rather dance they play football (little bit gay if you ask me)" --->

NOBLE ARGUMENT BUT MATHETMATICALLY HOW IS A LB CORE 2 TIMES BETTER, I DONT KNOW MAN, DOUBLE THE TACKLES, DOUBLE THE SACKS?? But The argument against Redskins I give him that...(FROM THE JV Artricle on who winnign SUperbowl)

BROUSE 310 (IS A FUNNY GUY)-->Todd Pinkston Greatest reciver for the eagles of all time, Donovan McNabb Good QB for Eagles, dude look at how good mcnabb as almost as good as aaron brooks

SOME H8rs of Brouse (Primarily eagles Fans)

"by the way brouse nice way to spell consideration...conciteration wtf is that. no wonder why you spelt LILEagle's name wrong u moron"

"no i dont like you...just my oppinon theres being optimistic...then theres being brouse310 ....if u really wanna talk about how good the raiders are...do it somewhere else or in like 20 years...plus i cant understand half of what u say"

"I can't believe this weak ass post has made it to Most Comments This Week. Some funny looking dude with a statement backed up with no stats. WOW!"

5) SUPERBOWL-->

"eagles 6-10? have u saw their schedule? easy 11-5 12-4 season no doubt..this is the year philly fans...i heard tampa is nice in feburary...and mcnabb is gonna enjoy the win in florida...then enjoy hawaii in the probowl" (recent Superbowl Article JV)

"The Philadelphia Eagles Will Have A Big Year And Will Win-- or 15 Games This Year With The Cowboys Doing Alright Winning 11 Games And Lose To The Eagles Twice This Year. I Have The Giants Winning 9 Games And Losing To Us 2 Times And The Redskins Will Be The Last In The Nfc East with 7 Wins. They Will Lose To The Eagles,Cowboys,Giants Twice This Year And Finish Up Losing More Than Winning And Not Make The Playoffs. The Philadelphia Eagles Win The Division And Clinch A First Round Bye And Win In The Divisional Game And Then The Championship Game And Win Big In The Super Bowl.Go Eagles!!!"

---EAgLES Fans always say they going to the SuperBowl, Just Ludicrous Statements---

6) WHEN OTHER FANS BASH EAGLES FANS

WhiteJordan Bashing the eagles fans is priceless--->

"ATTENTION Philadelphia Eagles fans....

this is what you have sounded like ever since you came here. I can't wait until week 12 when you guys are saying your gonna go undefeated next year and win it all. Stop. You are decent, not great, decent. Maybe playoffs, maybe not. If we could, I'm sure 90% of Yardbarkers would get all you Eagles fans off the site if we could, not saying I don't enjoy a few of your thoughts and analysis, but if you include everyone, the people that say things like "BRETT FAVRE TO PHILLY???" or "Eagles are going undefeated!" or any other idiotic post ruin it and sometimes a few rotten apples can spoil the barrel"

7) EaGLE Fan Keeping it Realistic--->THIS Eagles FAN here has a good and unbias reflection on the Eagles, PLEASE READ IT-->(http://melnickandgrecofantasysports.com/PHILADELPHIA-EAGLES-2008-Preview-Report.html)

Concluding this long article...you should get a couple points.....Eagles Fans are way optmistic and bias....Not all of course....and Please Everyone w8 till season starts, enough with the predictions, i'll just do my job and poke fun at it.....nothing personal as well....If I had any prediction about the Eagles, Plaxico Burress and Co. will embarrass the Eagles as usual and they wont make the playoffs.,...So if Im wrong, Im wrong.....Enjoy.....

Dawkins knows Andrews' struggles

When Shawn Andrews eventually does rejoin the Eagles, he'll find a sympathetic ear in six-time Pro Bowl safety Brian Dawkins.

Andrews said in interviews yesterday with web site www.philly.com that he's missed the first 12 days of training camp and the last week of June minicamp because of depression. Andrews said he's being treated and hopes to return to the team later this week, if he's cleared by his doctor.

Last night, in an interview on Comcast SportsNet, Dawkins revealed that he too was once treated for clinical depression.

"I went through it my rookie year, my first two years, so I know what it's like," Dawkins said. "I did the doctor thing, but I leaned heavily on my pastor, I leaned heavily on men of God, my man Troy (Vincent) was here, Irving Fryar was here, Emmitt Thomas helped me out tremendously, so there were a lot of people that I had in my corner as well as prayer to help me out of that situation.

"It's nothing to scoff at. The thing about it is we're held up as being these mighty people because we play this violent game, but at the end of the day, we have the same emotions as the average cat."

The Eagles had no comment on Andrews' remarks.

Andrews has been AWOL from the Eagles since the middle of June. His minicamp absence was excused, according to head coach Andy Reid, but his current absence is not. The Eagles are fining Andrews the NFL daily maximum of $15,000 per day, which comes out to $180,000 so far.

"I'm willing to admit that I've been going through a very bad time with depression," Andrews said in the story. "I've finally decided to get professional help. It's not something that blossomed up overnight. I'm on medication, trying to get better."

Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw, a two-time Super Bowl MVP, also battled depression going back to his college days at Louisiana Tech. His symptoms seem nearly identical to the ones Andrews describes — among them a lack of concentration and an inability to sleep.

"With depression, I have always had problems focusing," Bradshaw said in a 2004 speech in San Francisco."I suffered from terrible panic attacks and was unable to concentrate. With the help of therapists, counselors and the medication they prescribed for me ... my panic attacks are gone and I can pay attention to the elements of my life that are important."

Andrews signed a 10-year contract worth $48,873,545 in June 2006 and is scheduled to earn $2.98 million this year. The fines he's already accrued amount to about 6 percent of his 2008 base salary.

"Football is important, it's a means to an end," Andrews said. "But my mental health, I feel like, is a lot more important. That's a hell of a lot of money. Money's good, money's a necessity, but it's not everything. I can't put a price tag on my mental state."

Andrews said in a second interview that appeared last night on the www.philly.com web site that he initially sought medical treatment in June but changed his mind and returned to his home in Arkansas.

"My pride got in the way," he said. "I didn't want anybody to see me walking into a psych clinic. Professionals aren't always the answer. Sometimes, just talking things out helps. And now with all the rumors coming out, it has only made things worse.

"Some of the comments really got to me. You always hear guys say that they don't care what people think and sometimes I don't about certain things. But in the grand scheme, I want people to think positive about me."

Earlier in the day, Eagles owner Jeff Lurie said he was disappointed Andrews is missing significant camp time.

"I'm certainly disappointing he's not here," Lurie said. "Other players get reps and improve because that's the game of football, you've got to prepare. He's been hurt before so we had to prepare, anyway. I'm hopeful Shawn will have a terrific season, be here and that things will work themselves out. You don't see too many players not at their training camps. You just hope what's going to happen to Shawn will be great for Shawn and great for the franchise."

Reid said he's not concerned about Andrews' absence because Max Jean-Gilles has played so well with the first offense at right guard. However, Jean-Gilles is a third-year pro who's started one career game and only played in four.

Andrews is a two-time Pro Bowl player and an all-pro. Andrews said he anticipates arriving at Lehigh on Friday. The Eagles open their preseason with a game against the Steelers that evening in Pittsburgh. Their next practice would be at 8:15 a.m. Sunday.

Andrews did not return a message left on his cell phone yesterday.

Andrews is currently on the Reserve-Did not Report list. The Eagles would have to release a player if they reinstate him and allow him to practice, which Dawkins hopes is soon.

"What needs to be dealt with," Dawkins said at Lehigh earlier in the day, "is to get in here, make sure he's fine, make sure he's healthy, make sure everything is good with him and get him in here so we can play some ball."

2008-2009 NFC Playoff Teams

The NFC East sends 3 teams again. The NFC is always a toss up but these are the teams I believe come out on top.

Just missed the cut:
Minnesota Vikings (8-8): An improving team but still no consistent QB play. Unless they get Brett Favre, teams want to challenge Jackson to beat them.
Arizona Cardinals (8-8): Another young team on the rise. Experience will take it's toll late in the season. Watch out for AZ in the future.
Washington Redskins (7-9): A streaky season for a streaky offense will prove that consistency is the key to a successful season. Plus the fact that the NFC East is too good.

Eagles Offense Is One Of The Best In Nfl

The Philadelphia Eagles Have Two Guys In Reggie Brown And Kevin Curtis Who Can Go up And Snatch The Ball Out Of The Air And We Have The Best Offensive Line In The Nfl Along With Brian Westbrook Who Could Be The Best In The Nfl Now Because He Is Better Than Ladainian Tomlinson And A Good Backup In Lorenzo Booker. Donovan Mcnabb Is One Of The Best Quaterbacks In The Nfl When Healty And We Have A Very Good Offense. I Think We Have A Good Enough Offense That Could Be In The Top 5 Because We Have Wide Recievers That Can Go Down The Field And Make Plays And Mcnabb Will Get The Job Done In Philadelphia This Year And We Will Shock The World.

Eagles' Baskett can go up and get it

BETHLEHEM - Hank Baskett knows it as well as you do.
Baskett is "a" big receiver.

He is not "the" big receiver.

But that doesn't mean Baskett can't be more of a factor in the Eagles' offense than he was last year, when it seemed the Birds thought his sole value was blocking, as a sort of H-back or quasi-tight end. (Starting tight end L.J. Smith was hurt most of the year, and the team wasn't all that thrilled with fullback Thomas Tapeh, who was allowed to leave in free agency.)

So far in this training camp, wideout Baskett seems to be more the short-yardage or red-zone target people thought he would be when the Birds traded for him just after the 2006 draft.

"You're dealing with a smart guy there. That gives you a little flexibility with what you can do with Hank," coach Andy Reid said yesterday. "He's playing very well right now, and he's catching the ball real well. We're seeing him go up and the quarterbacks just put the ball up. He's covered, they put the ball up and he goes and gets the thing. He can about jump out of the house; he's got a great vertical jump, and he's utilizing that better. He looks to me stronger than what he's been in the past, and he's got that big body to go with it. He's playing very well right now."

Baskett is 6-4, and he has slimmed down to 207 from his listed 220, he said yesterday. As Reid noted, he can go up and get a ball, in the end zone or along the sideline; he holds the New Mexico high school high jump record, at 7 feet. But he does not have the wheels or the instincts of a Terrell Owens or a Plaxico Burress.

Ask him if he can be the "big receiver" fans here covet, and Baskett will tell you this: "Definitely, the sizewise big receiver, but there was a lot of talk in the offseason, outside the organization, about that one go-to guy," and Baskett, with 38 catches his first two seasons, knows that isn't going to be him. He doesn't think that's as big a problem as fans and reporters often portray it.

"Any position, you have that one key player - things happen in this league all the time - something happens to that one player, then what?" Baskett asked. "I'd much rather have a team full of guys, where if Kevin [Curtis] needs a blow, or Reggie [Brown] needs a blow . . . they're confident that we can go in and make plays."

On a team that nearly everyone feels lacked weapons, Baskett's numbers went down from his rookie year to his second year, from 22 catches and a 21.1-yard average to 16 and a paltry 8.9. The blocking thing, and the special-teams MVP role (voted by teammates) Baskett took on had something to do with that, but it also seemed the Eagles and Baskett got the wrong idea when he broke loose for some long catches as a rookie - that he was a greyhound, and not a possession receiver.

"You fall into a little rut," he said. "Last year . . . I wasn't going up and attacking the ball like I was the year before. That's one thing I've tried to come back and do. Coach Reid got on me a couple of times in the offseason about not going up and getting the ball. That's what I've been focusing on this camp.

"Like he told me today, there was a catch in the red zone - he's like, 'That's what you do, you use your body' . . . make the defender go through me. I've just got to go back to using my strengths. Every receiver's different; I'm not going to be the quick, shaky guy. I tried to do that somewhat last year, and it set me back a step, trying to change my game instead of using what got me here.

"This year, I've lost the weight, I feel quicker, I feel healthier. I've just been focusing on the few little things I sort of overlooked last year in camp."

Baskett said he did extra offseason work with Brown, and he feels he's stronger, if lighter. Between Baskett and Smith, the Eagles hope they have the ability to dramatically increase their red-zone efficiency, which was a big focus yesterday.

"We weren't very good in the red zone [last season]," offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said recently. "We were very good in many other factors of the game, but that red zone was not good. That starts with me. We always change. If something's wrong, we're going to fix it, and we did that throughout the season, and thought we had it clicking there about midseason, and then we reverted back. And so yes, we've done many things there to improve our red-zone production."

Mornhinweg didn't say what those things were, exactly. But he did say this, when asked about Baskett and the fade route, a prime red-zone weapon for most teams: "He's a big, physical man who does quite a few different things for us, and that certainly is one of them."

DeSean Jackson starting small

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The smallest guy on the team was carrying the heaviest load as the Eagles sauntered off the field toward their air-conditioned oasis following another morning of beating on one another in the soppy air at training camp.
DeSean Jackson was weighed down with equipment, most of it not his own. In his right hand, he had Hank Baskett's helmet, shoulder pads and jersey. He was lugging Brian Westbrook's body armor in his left hand. Moments later, Omar Gaither showed no mercy as he handed Jackson his helmet.

When Jackson spoke of his need to gain weight, this was not the method he considered.

"That's the life of a rookie, man, you've got to handle all the veterans - Hank Baskett and Brian Westbrook," he said. "It's all right, though."

Not that he had an option.

Veterans show little sympathy for rookies at their first NFL camp, even a guy like the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Jackson, whom the Eagles drafted in the second round with the hope that his speed and sensational moves will juice up the offense and punt-return game.

At Cal, Jackson set a Pac-10 record with six punt returns for touchdowns, most of them YouTube-worthy. The only other Pac-10 athlete to average more yards per punt return than Jackson was a guy named Jackie Robinson from UCLA.

Jackson also had 22 TD catches and 2,423 yards receiving in an all-American career.

But now, all those are merely gaudy numbers on his resume. The 21-year-old with the bright smile and spindly legs has to prove he can hang with the big boys, that he can pick himself off the turf after a heat-seeking missile disguised as an NFL defensive back pops him.

Jackson returned to practice yesterday, having missed two valuable days after aggravating a hamstring pull Sunday. It was the same hamstring that kept him out of much of the last minicamp. Jackson was falling behind, something he can't afford if he wants to contribute to the team early in the season.

If there's anyone who has less sympathy for rookies than veterans, it's the coach. And the message Andy Reid sent to Jackson when asked about him Tuesday was far from subtle.

"He needs to get healthy and get back out there is what he needs to do," Reid said. "This is a challenge for wide receivers, that first year, and you have to push yourself through these things, so that's what he's working on right now."

Message delivered. Yesterday, Jackson was back out there. He didn't directly address Reid's comment, but he said all the right things about how great it is to be back at practice and that he'd much rather be practicing than rehabbing a hamstring pull.

Jackson also said the hamstring felt good and that he doesn't really think he's behind because he's learning at meetings and by talking to veterans. But those aren't meetings they hold on fall Sundays.

"I felt really good," Jackson said. "The biggest thing is when I'm not practicing I kind of feel left out with my teammates. It's hard for me to be in the training room and not on the field. That's been the hardest thing for me so far. The biggest thing is I'm being pushed at a high level, and I have to keep working to make it through this."

Starved for another playmaker, much of the crowd at Lehigh turned its attention toward Jackson. Fans cheered loudly when he made a nice sideline catch behind cornerback Lito Sheppard for about 30 yards, but the official ruled he had only one foot in bounds. In college, it would have been a reception; in the pros, it was not.

"The biggest thing is you have to catch the football wherever the quarterback puts it," Jackson said. "I dropped one today. But I think I'm doing pretty good."

The drop was during a punt-return drill, which conjured a sour memory from last season for one fan.

"Green Bay," the guy shouted at Jackson.

That was a bit harsh. Jackson was at Cal when the Eagles frittered away the 2007 season opener against the Packers because of fumbled punt returns.

But like Jackson said, that's the life of a rookie.

Kevin Curtis - His Numbers are Impressive

As I type this post, I know people will instantly give it the label of a Spadaro-type piece, that I need to take off the green beer goggles and put down my glass of green kool-aid.

And yes I know that when looking at the whole picture the Eagles are still lacking a number one receiver. But...Kevin Curtis does come awfully close to filling that void, just look at the below 2007 numbers and the WRs he is ahead of. And we can't forget, A.J. Feeley was throwing him passes for three games!

Ok, so his 6 touchdowns place him 22nd among wide receivers. But the rest of the numbers stack up nicely when compared to other #1 receivers.

Good chance the numbers improve this year with a healthy McNabb and another year in the Eagles system. Just throwing this out there...

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers - Serviceable Wideouts

Serviceable WRs
We've profiled the Big Dog WRs, Second Tier WRs, and Third Tier WRs, now it's time to examine the next wave of wideouts. These will likely either be your 3rd WR or make up your WR depth.

Kevin Curtis/Reggie Brown - Curtis was decent last year for the Eagles. He had a couple of huge games. I'd like to see DeSean Jackson push for the starting job opposite of Reggie Brown, who should bounce back from his mediocre 780 yard 4 TD season, which would allow Curtis to got to the slot and utilize his speed like Wes Welker. If that happens, all three could be viable plays.

Laveranues Coles - Coles had a decent season going before the wheels fell off in Week 8. If he can produce like he did the first seven weeks (460 yards, 6 TDs), he'll be worth an occasional start.

Joey Galloway - How long can Mr. Galloway keep it up? Dude will turn 37 in November. He's registered three straight 1000+ yards seasons though. One warning, he was very inconsistent last year.

Santana Moss - Moss has barely matched his outstanding 2005 numbers when you combine the past two years. However, he still has big-play ability. He's scary to own, and even scarier to start, but he can occasionally almost single-handedly win a matchup for you.

Javon Walker - Who knows how he'll respond following last year's lost season and butt-whoopin' he took in Vegas. When he's healthy though, he can produce. That hasn't always been easy for him though.

Bernard Berrian - He's a mystery heading into the year. He produced in Chicago, but we'll see how he does in Minnesota. The Viking certainly have the running game to keep the DBs honest. I'm just leery of T-Jack's accuracy.

Anthony Gonzalez - Here's another guy I'd love to see end up on my team. He gained valuable experience as a rooke, and if Marvin Harrison returns to form, he could be looking at some cupcake matchups. He could be the poison that defenses pick, which is great news to his fantasy owners.

Eagles Fans Gather to Enjoy the Eagles First Full Contact Practice

Another must read first-hand account from Eagles training camp: "Today, Saturday July 26th, marked the first day that the entire Eagle team (including RB Brian Westbrook and CB Lito Sheppard) practiced in full contact drills in front of more than 15,000 passionate and die hard Eagle fans. As I sauntered through the crowds making my way to the main practice field where the offense was going through some drills, I stopped and talked to some of the Philly faithful about their thoughts on this glorious day..."
