Yes, These Quotes Are About the Phillies

Remember when, just a few years ago, Phillies off-seasons were marked by one "splash" move involving a player who may are may not have been exiting his prime, followed by several more moves of similar ilk on a declining scale? If not, join me in recalling that feeling of empathizing with the Indians fans in that spring training sequence of Major League, where they look through the paper and don't understand the direction of the team, but know it isn't up... culminating famou...

Derrick Goold Expect Cubs To Offer God A Contract

Derrick Goold expects the Cubs will offer Mark DeRosa a free agent contract.

DeRosa, coming off wrist surgery, figures to field an offer from the Chicago Cubs, at the least. He and Chone Figgins are two of the best utility players in the game, and both are free agents.

This isn’t exactly predicting something wild. After all, it would be the single most shocking event in Cubs history if they did not offer Mark DeRosa a contract. Whether or not he’ll sign is the issue.

If This Were Any Other Player

Now that the Cardinals season is unfortunately over we can take another look at how Mark DeRosa’s teams perform in the playoffs. DeRosa has been in the playoffs in 6 different seasons (2001-2003, 2007-2009). He’s played on some really good teams. He came up with the Braves and then was a part of the Cubs back to back division championships before ending up in St. Louis in 2009. The only series in which one of DeRosa’s teams advanced was in a series in 2001. He saw all...

When you read this, keep in mind it is written with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

The Cardinals got swept out of their Division Series with the Dodgers and looked, in doing so, just about as bad as the Cubs did in a similar sweep a year ago.

Common thread? It has to be Mark DeRosa, the only former Cub on St. Louis' D...

A lot of fans talk about some players being full of ****. You want to know who is full of ****? Mark DeRosa.
Free Agent at the End of the Season: Mark DeRosa

Mark DeRosa is a rare talent. Not only does DeRosa swing a big stick, but DeRosa is especially valuable because of his ability to play several different positions on the baseball diamond. And as we inch closer towards free agency, it will be fascinating to see how DeRosa will benefit from his versatility. Back in 2006, DeRosa inked a nice 3 year deal with the Chicago Cubs, but make no mistake about it, Mark DeRosa is an established commodity now. Will he be paid like it? Let's take a look...

The Legend came home today and he was in vintage form against his long-time former team. It’s going to the bottom of the 8th inning right now, but so far Mark DeRosa has thrown 7 innings and allowed only 2 solo home runs. These were clearly home runs DeRosa was giving to his former club mates. On top of the pitching performance, DeRosa slugged a 3-run home run while playing shortstop and he then added another 3-run home run while playing 1st base. Even more impressive, DeRosa decid...
