2009 Depth Chart v1.00

Well, the Chiefs have now published their first depth chart of the (pre)season and there is least one shocker on it. Dwayne Bowe is currently listed at #3 behind Terrance Copper and Amani Toomer. In the #2 slot, we see Devard Darling, Mark Bradley, and then Bobby Engram.
I also find it interesting to see Jackie Battle (a guy who I felt showed potential last year) [...]

New Chiefs head coach Todd Haley isn't playing around

The
last head coach of the Chiefs was a really nice guy, and that didn't always work
out so well for the Chiefs. The new guy, Todd Haley, evidently isn't going to be
so friendly. Wide
receiver Devard Darling found out the hard way.
The Chiefs were practicing the victory formation -- the set where a
quarterback takes the snap and immediately goes to one knee in order to run the
clock out -- and Darling took the field and lined up in the wrong place.
Haley threw him right out of ...

Chiefs camp buzz: Darling gets tossed from practice

Darling thrown off the field Coach Todd Haley has shown no patience for any type of mistakes on the practice field and when wide receiver Devard Darling made one at a critical time, Haley exploded. Darling’s crime was to line up in the wrong place when the Chiefs were working on the victory formation, the one used when a team is trying to run out the clock to secure a late lead.

When thinking of football hotbeds, most people envision the West Texas Plains, sunny Southern California, or the year-round warmth of Florida. Needless to say, the tropical, laid back setting of the Bahamas doesn't quickly come to mind. However,

A.A.D.Q.: Return Our DVD Purchase?

The big debate right now surrounds Devard Darling and whether or not he should be on the Chiefs' roster, let alone starting. I say give it some more time.
Off to the Bahamas

I went to the Bahamas this past weekend to help Alex Smith, TE for the Tampa Bay Bucs with his 3rd annual kids' football camp. A bunch of guys came like Stephen Cooper, Greg Camarillo, and Stan Wilson - just to name a few. It's important for me to always give back because I believe good things happen to good people. Alex is doing a great thing by trying to expose the Bahamian kids to football to try and get them another out and help them have successful lives. There are currently 4 Bahamian football players in the league: Alex Smith, Devard Darling, Samari Rolle, and D'Brickashaw Ferguson. Not bad for a small lil island. These guys all come back every year and raise money for the kids to help them with life skills as well as physical skills and learning the game that we all love.

The great thing about doing this camp in the Bahamas is that it leaves time for play after all the work. I did a bunch of cool things such as ride the water slides, ride wave runners, and party the night away. All in all I had a great time seeing a bunch of old friends and helping out the kids. Everyone was great? except the staff at the hotel we stayed at ? The Cove on Paradise Island. And I thought the food sucked at my hotel, too. Didn't stop us from having a great time, though.

Well, it's almost that time for the season to start. I get a lil more excited every day.

Breakout Player?

Over on the forums, we were asked who might be a breakout player for the Chiefs in '08. Here was my response:

Oh two days until the fun begins-training camp

Man this wait is killing me, it brings me back to the time of my youth, awaiting Santa Clause. Ok, Ole Saint Nick is not real, but the start of Baltimore Ravens training camp is. With it comes the knowing, that the season of the greatest sport man has invented is near at hand as well.

Great plays, nail biting games, hard hits, incredible runs and unbelievable catches are just around the corner.

Camp, unlike the games, offers a little more to us, the fans. I say that only because camps have close to or over 100 players on each team, vying to make a name for them selves, either with the team they are currently with or building a video resume for other teams.

Here last year- http://extremeravens.com/multimedia/videos_and_film/rufus_skillern_makes_a_difficult_catch_20060809500/

You will see a young man by the name of Rufus Skillern make a difficult catch with a defender draped all over him. Skillern was not able to make the team, but he worked hard each day.

Romby Bryant also gave his best effort and if roster spots were not so dire last year, I think he had a real chance. This kid has a great pair of hands...http://extremeravens.com/multimedia/videos_and_film/romby_bryant_hauls_in_a_touchdown_pass_20060809493/

Yes, this one was an "easy" catch, but he made several eye popping receptions last summer. Both players were fan friendly and a pleasure to meet.

Coming into the league, Even Oglesby was thought to be too small and need far too much time to develop. He was a long shot to make the team, but plays like this one-

http://extremeravens.com/multimedia/videos_and_film/evan_oglesby_tips_away_a_pass_20060809491/

Ensured his position last year and he went on to make some solid contributions on the Ravens, helping them to achieve a 13-4 (including the playoffs) record.

Some players have outstanding camps, give the fans a good show and build confidence in them selves, and with the coaches. But they struggle to translate those performances to the game field. One player with such a "problem" is receiver Devard Darling. Here you can see him take advantage of his speed & quickness, plus the inexperience of the undrafted rookie.

http://extremeravens.com/multimedia/videos_and_film/devard_darling_makes_a_great_move_20060807453/

Other players have the clear talent, but lack discipline. Over the years, coaches have told me they would rather have a player who worked hard, paid attention and kept their cool but had "less" talent over a talented player with no real work ethic.

One such player comes to mind; BJ Ward. This kid has the speed, power, quickness and instincts to play in the NFL. What he lacked, was discipline. Last summer, the coaches tried everything to bring him around, but each time they reached out a hand in good faith, he slapped it a way.

Here- http://extremeravens.com/multimedia/videos_and_film/bj_ward_called_for_interference_20060807455/

Ward is in tight coverage during one of the practices that involved officials. Each year, all the teams bring in officials to help the players get used to any new rules or any rule that will be more enforced in the coming season. This was just one occasion where Ward lost his cool because of a suspect flag. There were three such instances, Coach Billick even tried to speak with about this "anger issue", but that resulted in BJ losing his cool, yelling at the coach and being suspended from camp. Later he was released.

So much fun awaits for the fans, so much hard work for the players. These are just a few of the hundreds of videos we put up each year of camp, this year, we will continue the exclusive trend. If you are like me and "jones" for camp, feel free to brouse our video vault, linked here...
