Bear Release WR Rashied Davis

The Bears released WR Rashied Davis on Wednesday, the veteran wideout told Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune.
Davis did not practice Tuesday after suffering an undisclosed injury. He signed with the Bears in early August and was competing with second-year WR Dane Sanzenbacher for a roster spot.
Per the report, Davis felt “a little behind” after joining the team and only lined up as an outside receiver in exhibition games after being accustomed to playing in the slot. Source: ProFootball Weekly Attached Thumbnails

Bears Release WR Rashied Davis, Sanzenbacher Gets His Shot At The Final Roster

According to the Chicago Tribune, veteran WR Rashied Davis has been let go by the Chicago Bears.
Davis told the Tribune Wednesday morning that the Bears had released him.
He was battling with second-year receiver Dane Sanzenbacher who flashed his skills in 2011 as an undrafted rookie.
Davis wasn’t able to practice on Tuesday after suffering what the Tribune is calling an “undisclosed” injury.
He’s been a fan favorite in his time in Chicago and would have been a solid contributor on special teams if he stayed healthy.
Sanzenbacher added 27 catches for 276 yards and three touchdowns a season ago. He showed he can play special teams this season, so that made Davis expendable.
Marshall, Bennett, Hester and Jeffery will serve as the top four receivers while Eric Weems and Dane Sanzenbacher will be the likely backups.
It was tough for Davis to get things going in camp because he was brought in so late, but the Bears made the right move keeping Sanzenbacher.
It would have been a big mistak...

Bears sign WR Davis

The Chicago Bears signed receiver Rashied Davis to a one-year contract to replace the retired Devin Thomas.

The Bears announced the moves on Monday, while placing Thomas on the reserve/left team list.

Davis spent his first six years with Chicago and played for Detroit last season. He has 92 receptions for 1,095 yards and five touchdowns in 103 games to go with 72 kickoff returns for 1,400 yards and 69 special teams tackles.

Thomas was trying to make the squad as a reserve receiver and special teams player after signing a one-year deal with the Bears in March.

A 2008 second-round draft pick by the Washington Redskins, he was cut in 2010 and made three catches last season with the Giants.

Chicago Bears: Devin Thomas Out, Rashied Davis In

Just a day after newly acquired Bears wide receiver Devin Thomas retired from the NFL, the Bears reportedly are bringing back Rashied Davis in his place.

Much like Thomas was expected to do, Davis will make his contribution largely on special teams, where he thrived with the Bears in 2009 and 2010 after failing in his role as a featured wide receiver in 2008.

His highlight in the 2010 season came in week 16 against the New York Jets, when he successfully defended a Jets fake punt, changing the course of the game and leading to a Bears victory.
He also had a few highlights as a receiver too, catching a huge third down pass in overtime in the 2006 Divisional Playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks and making a sideline endzone catch on a pass from Kyle Orton with 11 seconds left to take the lead in a 2008 game against the Atlanta Falcons (a game the Bears ended up losing).
It’s a move that a large part of the Bears roster appears to love, as they know how much pride Davis brought ...

Welcome Back: Bears Add WR Rashied Davis To The Mix

A familiar face has found his way back to the windy city. WR Rashied Davis, who signed with NFC North rival Detroit last off-season has reportedly signed with the Chicago Bears today.
Chicago Tribune reporter Vaughn McClure first reported the move Monday afternoon.
He was let go last off-season after the Bears opted to sign WR Sam Hurd. That turned to be a big mistake after what happened to Hurd last season.
Davis was always a likable player for the Bears. He helped on special teams in any way he could as a blocker as well as a returner. He was always a dependable receiver as well, making big catches when the team needed him most.
In six seasons in Chicago, the 33-year old appeared in 92 games making 15 starts. He reeled in 88 balls for 1,032 yards and five touchdowns.
He will battle second-year receiver Dane Sanzenbacher, who has yet to prove his worth on special teams for a likely sixth receiver spot.
Glad to see a familiar face back in Chicago. He should be one of the better sixt...

The Bears signed veteran wide receiver Rashied Davis, who returns to Chicago after one season with the Lions. The veteran is primarily a special teams player but spent time at cornerback and wide receiver in his previous stint with the Bears from 2005-2010.
Lions WR Rashied Davis Doesn't Like NFL's New Trainer Rule

Rashied Davis isn't a fan of the new NFL concussion protocol that requires independent certified athletic trainers to attend games and assist in the evaluation of concussions. "I think they should get their (butt) off the sideline," Davis said. The NFL said this week it will pay trainers to monitor play and help team medical staffs spot potential concussions. The trainer, who'll be selected jointly by the NFL Players Association and the league, will work from the press box area and won't have the authority to remove players from the game. Davis, the Lions' wide receiver and special-teams standout, said he doesn't think independent trainers are needed, even if they're there to protect competitive players, who may want to remain in the game despite an injury, from themselves. "They don't play," Davis said. "They don't know what it's like to play the game. That's just my opinion. Maybe 50 years down the line, if I'm having issues I'm going
