Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 6/22

Tomorrow I will be at the Sally League All Star game. It will be my only chance to see any Rome prospects since the R-Braves do not come to Charleston at all this season. Our very own Zeke Spruill will start the game and I just happen to have bought a nice new camera recently so I will do my best to get some awesome pictures. Other Braves on the roster will be JJ Hoover (I am pumped to see him pitch), Luis Sumoza and Jesus Sucre. None of our guys will be in the preceding Home Run Derby, b...

Webb Has Shoulder Setback

Diamondbacks ace Brandon Webb faced another setback in his attempts to return from the disabled list with shoulder problems. Webb was playing catch when he felt the discomfort, and the Diamondbacks were forced to cancel his bullpen session and shut him down indefinitely. The Diamondbacks were hoping Webb would be ready to go on a rehab assignment sometime next week, but are now forced to wait until the pain subsides.
The Diamondbacks do not have much in their minor league system, and do not have much money to spend, so they could fall out of contention if Webb is out for an extended amount of time. Pedro Martinez is available. Mark Mulder is available. Paul Byrd, Shawn Chacon, and Tony Armas Jr. are available. The Diamondbacks need to decided if one of those pitchers is worth the investment during these unstable times financially.
This story was approved by MLB Rumors.
Other cuts...

In other moves today the Mets have cut Jose Valentin, Tony Armas jr. and Junior Spivey. Valentin still believes he can play in the majors and while being a player/coach in Buffalo seemed like a good opportunity to begin camp, after the spring he's had he'll look elsewhere before he starts his coaching career. It appears they felt they had better options then Armas and Spivey who were on minor league deals but taking up spots on the Buffalo roster.....The Mets released popular infielde...

Could things have gone any worse for Redding....

So when is it no longer too early to worry about someone, earlier this week Duaner Sanchez was let go for his ineffectiveness. Now I'm not saying it's time to start considering cutting Tim Redding but even I'm starting to get worried about him and I put very little credence in early spring training result, while also having very little expectations for the fifth starter. But Redding has been that bad; In his first outing he couldn't make it through an inning against a college ...

Last year at this time Tony Armas Jr. proclaimed that if he didn't make the team, he wouldn't be reporting to AAA New Orleans. After missing most of camp due to Visa issues, he relented and spent most of the season in New Orleans. Armas' best years were under Omar in Montreal, either he has ...

Mets sign four to minor league contracts....

Four players coming off poor seasons agreed Thursday to minor league contracts with the New York Mets: outfielder Bobby Kielty, right-handers Tony Armas Jr. and Matt DeSalvo, and left-hander Valerio de los Santos.

Kielty has not played in the major leagues since 2007, when he pinch hit in the eighth inning of Game 4 of the World Series and homered on the first pitch from Colorado's Brian Fuentes. It put Boston ahead 4-1, and the
Red Sox went on to win 4-3 for their second World Ser...

Mets expected to sign Vargas

The New York Mets look like they may have begun to address the injury problems that are already striking their starting rotation. The team is on the verge of signing free-agent Claudio Vargas to a AAA minor league deal. According to Vargas agent, Bean Stringfellow, there were four teams showing interest in him and that the Mets are the favorite. I'm not sure how believable that statement actually is thou.

Did Jim Bowden do the right thing by not moving Soriano?

I thought Jim Bowden really blew it by not moving Soriano before the deadline, but maybe he didn't. If he leaves at the end of the season ,the Nationals get two first round picks. Is that better than what was being offered? I'm not sure. What did Nationals fans think? Did the time spent on Soriano negotiations negatively affect potential trades involving Livan or Armas that should have taken place. Probably. Read the link and tell me what you think.
