Wichita St.-Texas A&M Preview

With a coaching background that includes stop at Louisiana Tech and Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M coach Gary Blair loves to root for the underdogs in the NCAA tournament.

Of course, that support doesn't extend to those teams when they're facing his Aggies, like one is on Saturday when No. 3 seed Texas A&M hosts 14th-seeded Wichita State in the first round of the tournament.

"That will be the first thing we talk about are the upsets," he said. "You better be ready because the other team is playing with nothing to lose."

The ninth-ranked Aggies (24-9), who won a national championship in 2011, are making their eighth consecutive NCAA appearance and the Shockers their tournament debut.

Wichita State (24-9) has had the most successful season in school history, setting records for wins and Missouri Valley Conference victories (15). But the Shockers are facing daunting odds in a tournament where a team from their conference hasn't won a game since 2002.

No. 19 Texas A&M 66, No. 9 Tennessee 62

When Tennessee led Texas A&M by 10 points midway through the second half, Lady Vols coach Holly Warlick said her players got comfortable.

Courtney Walker and the Aggies got busy.

Walker had back-to-back baskets to start No. 19 Texas A&M's comeback, and Courtney Williams delivered the go-ahead jumper with 33 seconds remaining as the Aggies beat ninth-ranked Tennessee 66-62 in the Southeastern conference semifinals Saturday, ending the Lady Vols' bid for a fourth straight championship.

Walker and Williams are freshmen.

''How about those young Aggies?'' asked Texas A&M coach Gary Blair, who compared his first-year players with the school's famous Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback.

''We keep finding a way,'' Blair said. ''We might not have had Johnny Manziel, but we had some freshmen step up, knocking down shots.''

Walker had 18 points to lead four scorers in double figures for Texas A&M (23-9), which will face either Kentucky or G

No. 19 Texas A&M 61, No. 17 South Carolina 52

Kristi Bellock scored 17 points, Karla Gilbert added 11 in a reserve role and No. 19 Texas A&M beat No. 17 South Carolina 61-52 in the Southeastern Conference tournament quarterfinals Friday.

The Aggies (22-9) snapped a three-game losing streak and will play No. 9 Tennessee in the semifinals Saturday.

Ashley Bruner finished with 19 points and Ieasia Walker added 15 for South Carolina (24-7).

Texas A&M survived a scare early in the second half when All-SEC center Kelsey Bone fell to the floor with a leg injury, but she later returned wearing a right knee brace after missing about 6 minutes.

During Bone's absence, South Carolina took its first lead 1 minute later when Bruner's layup made it 30-29.

But with Gilbert helping the front-line offense while Bone was off the floor, Texas A&M followed with an 11-1 run to go up 42-33 on Adrienne Pratcher's two free throws.

Bone made it 48-40 with a putback at the 8:24 mark and her free throw less than 2 minutes later gave the Aggies an 11-po

Theresa Plaisance scored 16 points and Danielle Ballard had 15 points and 11 rebounds Sunday to lead LSU to a 67-52 victory over No. 13 Texas A&M in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Ballard, a freshman, posted her second consecutive double-double for the Tigers (19-10, 10-6 SEC), who have won six in a row entering next weekend's Southeastern Conference tournament. Ballard had 14 points and 10 rebounds on Thursday in a win over Alabama.

Bianca Lutley had 14 points and five assists and Adrienne Webb scored 11 points for LSU.

Kelsey Bone led the Aggies (21-9, 11-5) with 13 points. Courtney Williams scored 11.

No. 8 Tennessee 82, No. 13 Texas A&M 72

Kamiko Williams scored a career-high 18 points in the final regular-season home game of her career Thursday and No. 8 Tennessee defeated No. 13 Texas A&M 82-72 to clinch its 17th Southeastern Conference regular-season title outright.

Tennessee (23-5, 14-1 SEC) already had wrapped up a share of its 17th SEC regular-season crown Sunday, but this victory clinched sole possession of first place in the SEC and guaranteed them the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament that begins Wednesday in Duluth, Ga.

Tennessee, a perennial conference favorite, wasn't expected to win the SEC title this season in the first year of the post-Pat Summitt era.

Summitt, who led the Lady Vols to eight national titles and 18 Final Fours in 38 seasons, stepped down last April after announcing in 2011 that she had early-onset dementia, Alzheimer's type. She remains on staff as head coach emeritus.

The Lady Vols also didn't return a single player who started an NCAA tournament game last year in their run to a regional
