The mid-season grades are in

It's that time of the year, the time most of us hated as students -- the mid-term grades. The Jets are 4-4 after starting 3-0, so don't expect too many As and Bs on this card. I'll have the unit grades in tomorrow's paper. Here, we'll go with individual grades.

Quarterbacks
Mark Sanchez (C+) -- Some good, some bad, a hot-dog controversy, but a bright future.

Kellen Clemens (Inc.) -- Classy backup, never making waves. Now holding on PATs and FGs.

Erik Ainge (Inc.)...

53 Man Roster – Bassett’s Projection, Part II

We did this a week ago, and wanted to slide our thoughts in here again before tonights deadline. If you enjoy this sort of thing, please enter the roster contest if you haven’t already! Based on the preseason and some initial cuts, here’s my second go at the Jets’ 53-man roster.
As a note, the suspensions of Ellis and Pace allow the team something of a silver lining. It allows the Jets to sneak someone on the roster so they don’t have to clear waivers and probably the two most ...

For Dearth, Special Teams Is Still a Snap

James Dearth doesn’t sweat the small stuff. He could’ve complained about the heat wave that has put temperatures into the high 80s and mid-90s in Cortland, N.Y., for the past couple of days, but he didn’t.
“Texas is like 105 right now,” said Dearth. “Where I’m from is East Texas, southeast of Dallas. It gets real hot there, blazing hot, humidity gets h...

Opinion: Revisiting Chris Baker

I’ve been watching the comments for a few days about Chris Baker and his game with the Patriots and seeing if we’re worried about Baker and what he’ll do as a Patriot. I’m of the opinion that Baker’s a good enough player that in playing with the Pats, he’ll get more attention and such. Unsure QBs often throw to their Tight Ends or RB checkdowns. Why? Because it’s an easy read, generally players are mismatched or in space and they’re in their lin...

NFL players are really good at divorce

I
could say that NFL players are bad at marriage, but why look at it negatively?
The glass remains half-full here at The Corner. I say they have a gift for
divorce.
Greg Bishop of the New York Times penned a really interesting article this
weekend about NFL
players and marriage, and the numbers say that the two aren't always such a
great mix. It's suggested that 60 to 80 percent of NFL players' marriages
end in divorce. Yikes. We've got a league full of Larry Kings.

Bubba Franks released

General Manager Mike Tannenbaum has announced that tight end Bubba Franks was released. Franks (6'6", 265), is a 10-year veteran and was originally signed by the Jets on Mar. 17, 2008. He caught six passes for 47 yards in eight games (four starts) during the 2008 season. He was re-signed by the Jets on May 12, 2009.
This is somewhat surprising in that, while he was constantly battling injuries, without him on the roster, the team now has Dustin Keller and James Dearth as the only pla...
