Badgers, Buckeyes to meet in primetime yet again

MADISON, Wis. The Wisconsin-Ohio State football series has been so captivating in recent years that television executives believe it warrants the national spotlight and a prime time audience. Again.
Wisconsin will play Ohio State at 7 p.m. on Sept. 28 in Columbus, Ohio, marking the fourth time in the past six seasons the teams will have played a nationally televised night game. The Big Ten's ABCESPN prime-time schedule was released Monday.
The game will be broadcast by ABC, ESPN or ESPN2 and will be the fifth time since 2003 that Wisconsin-Ohio State has been televised at night. It represents the ninth straight year Wisconsin has played at least one night game.
Wisconsin is 2-2 in night games against Ohio State, and the previous two prime time meetings have been especially memorable.
The last time Wisconsin and Ohio State met at night came in 2011, when the Buckeyes snatched a 33-29 last-minute victory in Columbus. Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to receiver Devin Smi

Helmet Stickers – Ohio State v California

Week Three of the college football season is officially in the books and once again your Empire team is here to pass out a few helmet stickers to deserving Buckeyes. The Bucks had one hell of a time putting Cal away, needing a late-game, 72-yard touchdown from Braxton Miller to Devin Smith to secure the 35-28 win over the Pac-12 foe.
Once again Miller lit up the box score, for the most part (324 total yards, 5 touchdowns), and will take home a few more leaves this week. The toughest part of passing out helmet stickers this week was on the defensive side of the ball where the Bucks struggled mightily at times. One specific Buckeye stood out from the crowd though, and not for anything that occurred on the field turf at Ohio Stadium…..off we go.

“(John Simon) almost didn’t play,” Meyer said. “I didn’t know that because they told me all week he should be fine. He didn’t practice much because of his sore shoulder. No ligament damage or something like that. When you say sore, for most...

Ohio State to Get Down To Business Today

The first week and the anxiety associated with it are over. The ice is broken. It's officially the "Urban Meyer Era" at Ohio State. Now it's time for the Buckeyes to settle down and start playing football. Not just walk on the field and play as it comes, but real Buckeye football.

From the start of the game to the final whistle, Ohio State must control the game. They must set the tempo with the first play, and keep that control throughout. Central Florida is a good team, but they should not be any match for the Buckeyes. If the Bucks want to shut down the nay-sayers (and there are plenty of them), then they need to show everyone how they can take control and manage the tempo of the game from the beginning.

There are plenty of Buckeye haters still out there. They made their presence very well known after last week's big win over Miami University. Sure, you expect the typical and over simplified "big deal, they beat Miami", and there was plenty of...

Ohio State WR Devin Smith is leaving his mark

Sophomore WR Devin Smith, via The Dispatch
Buckeye Nation was trying to stay motivated following the first quarter of Saturday’s game against Miami (OH); finally the crowd erupted with energy as Devin Smith leaped into the air and saved a wild pass with a one-handed catch for a touchdown. Smith’s catch was more than just amazing, it threw him in the early mix for catch of the year and lucky for him, highlight reels will feature this completion for years to come. It was the first touchdown of the season and it couldn’t have been done in a way that was more exciting and poignant.
“As soon as it hit my hand I knew I’d caught it,” Smith said. “I squeezed it real tight and hauled it in.”
After my simultaneous jumping up and down with excitement, I stopped for a second, and found myself asking who made the play; I paid close attention to the screen and saw the back of his jersey, D. Smith, who’s that? With the incredible talent he showed on Saturday, I figured now would be a great time ...

Ohio State Football: Buckeyes impress in Urban Meyer’s debut

Devin Smith’s highlight reel catch was the first of OSU’s eight TDs (AP)
The final score might have been about what we expected; Ohio State easily outclassed Miami University on the both sides of ball. A 56-10 victory is always a great way to start the season even thought this didn’t qualify as much of a test.
It wasn’t so much the win itself, but the key elements of that win that should have fans feeling confident about 2012.
After suffering through an anemic passing game in recent years, the Bucks started slow again on Saturday. Any concerns were dismissed, however, when Devin Smith nabbed a fantastic one-handed catch that put the Buckeyes ahead 7-3.
If crazy TD grabs aren’t your thing, how about sophomore QB Braxton Miller’s record-setting 161-yard rushing performance. Not only was it the best ever for an OSU quarterback, it featured a 65-yard run to the endzone that gave an indication of the kind of athlete Miller can be.

Miller finished with 368 total yards and three scores...

Ohio State’s Devin VIDEO: Smith makes what could be the catch of the year in a 56-10 win over Miami (OH)

Even though the Buckeyes were blasted with NCAA sanctions this past offseason, someone forgot to tell Devin Smith that this is only week one on the schedule and it’s only Miami of Ohio on the other side of the ball.
Here Smith makes what very well could be the catch of the season in a one handed grab at the back of the end zone from QB Braxton Miller.
Ohio State went on to destroy Miami 56-10 from the Shoe after getting off to a relatively slow start.

VIDEO: Devin Smith Ohio State Touchdown Catch Of The Year

Look at Ohio State welcoming in state rival Miami and throwing a 56-10 beating on the bros. Yes, the days of Jim Tressel pulling out 20-3 wins against the MAC are over. Now the Buckeyes have Tebow Braxton Miller throwing for two bills and rushing for another 163 yards. And let’s not forget that 23 of those yards came via an amazing one-handed TD catch from Devin Smith.
Will you see a better play this year in college football? Unlikely.
Smith only had two catches for 31 yards, but he just won the weekend highlight reel with this one.

We are only, what, two or three days into the new college football season and already we have what could be the catch of the year, or at least that's what Eric Collins of the Big Ten Network believes.
Ohio State Buckeyes receiver Devin Smith hauled in a one handed that appeared to have been slightly overthrown by quarterback Braxton Miller. The touchdown put the Buckeyes ahead of Miami (OH) Redhawks early in the second.
Nice way to start the Urban Meyer era in Columbus.

Ohio State's Smith anxious for next step

He caught a touchdown pass in his first college game and later caught the game-winner in Ohio State's biggest win of the season.

But in retrospect, Devin Smith saw himself much more as a secret than secret weapon in 2011. And now that the slate's been wiped totally clean and new coach Urban Meyer has put out a very public call for offensive weapons, Smith sees big things ahead for himself and the Ohio State offense.

"The (down) parts of last year honestly made me work harder because I didn't know when I was going to get those opportunities," Smith said. "I've put in the work. I'm anxious. And I think this offense can be great -- not just for me, but for the other receivers, for Jordan Hall when he gets healthy and for all of us.

"We're going to make it work. This offense can get us to the places we want to be."

The Buckeyes' new spread, up-tempo offense will usually feature at least three wide receivers on the field at a time, and Smith has been wor
