Top 11 Current NFL Careers Tht History Won't Be Overly Kind To

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_EuBu-c7pox0/SOWbjWKejRI/AAAAAAAADPU/3hP_nOqFOSA/s320/the+pauper%27s+graves+of+nfl+irrelevance.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5252775571944803602" />by DMtShooter, Five Tool Tool

Following in the proud footsteps of Shawn Alexander, Travis Henry and Michael Vick, what current stars are going to be dismissed out of hand once they are out of the league? Well, I'm betting you won't be telling your grandkids what it was like to watch...

11. Jeremy Shockey. Earned his ring in the press box, couldn't stay healthy, and Giant Fan isn't exactly sitting shiva for him. So overrated he was underrated, but will be known more for clubhouse lawyer antics than anything else.

10. Chad Johnson. The numbers are actually really good -- nearly 8,500 yards and 50 touchdowns as I write this -- and he's been extremely durable. But Ocho Dinko won't be remembered for anything but the antics, and since his teams are nearly 100% playoff-free, he'll have no response to the legion charges of Team Cancer.

Honestly, the best thing that could happen to him is a season-ending injury, a release from Stalag Bengal, and a stirring comeback for some destination team. If he plays out his career in Porkopolis, he'll be Andre Reed... only, well, less clutch.

9. Edge James. The career numbers are going to be very good, but he's going to be seen as someone who wasn't able to show up in big games, and it's telling that the Colts only broke through and got their Super Bowl when he was exiled to Arizona. A shame, because he probably deserves better.

8. Adrian Peterson. A harsh thing to say about Purple Jesus, but I can't shake the feeling that he's Eddie George II, and no one's talking about Eddie George I, really. Let's just say that I don't think much of his chances at long-term health, or from his organization giving him a good passing attack to keep the hits down.

7. Willis McGahee. Let's see, he's already hated in one town (Buffalo), and well on his way to losing the gig in Charm City. I bet he gets there with speed -- more than he shows on the field, really. Besides, Laron McClain is going to be the most-loved back in that town soon, if he isn't already.

6. Lawrence Maroney. Can't stay healthy, infuriated any number of fantasy owners, doesn't have a ring (and doesn't look like he'll get one this year either), and kind of a head case. When you remember this era of Patriots football, your mind's eye will have Kevin Faulk or Corey Dillon in it.

5. Carson Palmer. Boy, that playoff year was a long time ago, wasn't it? Palmer's never been the same since, and the Bengals have lost their way , especially in regards to how to construct an offensive line, or that infamous skill players aren't always, well, good skill players. Unless you are able to father quarterbacks that have much better careers than yours, being a star quarterback for a terrible franchise isn't exactly a legacy position...

4. Derek Anderson. Can you say flash in the pan? Browns Fan sure can, and they are more than ready to turn the page on a guy that probably won't have the starting gig in November, or ever again. In retrospect, everyone should have seen this coming, given that he couldn't take the job in training camp in 2007 from, um, Charlie Frye. Yeesh.

3. Roy Williams. The only defensive player on this list gets here simply from the honor of having horse collar tackles named after him, but as the Cowboys transition away from an erratic slow quasi linebacker at safety to a guy that stinks a lot less. they'll little note, nor long remember him. One more piece of proof that the Pro Bowl isn't the only criteria you should use to rate a player.

2. Randy Moss. No rings. Going on three towns that he quit on. An overwhelming sense of underachievement, despite huge numbers. Utter disappearance when the games mattered most. Lots of off-field nonsense early in a career usually means, well, off-field nonsense later in the career, too.

I'm not saying he's not going to the Hall, or that he wasn't great. I am saying that you won't see people wearing his jersey five years after he retires.

1. Terrell Owens. Let's see, numerous quarterbacks thrown under the bus -- check. Multiple cities who wanted to love him and just got burned, bingo. Teary post-game interviews that strained any level of credibility and multiple media members getting sucked into his periodic Nice Guy moments, only to feel used later? Oh, mais oui.

The 150+ touchdowns means he's going to the Hall of Fame no matter what, really... but will any team let him wear their jersey when he's inducted, and will the crowd be there to do anything but boo? Man, that'd be awesome...

Get wireless AMBER Alerts on your phone.

The RB Odometer: High Career Carry Red Flags

The biggest milestone that we seem to have set for running backs is for when they turn 30 years old. It's not even a good milestone either, despite what the majority of the population will tell you. Our brains have been wired to signal alarm sounds in our minds and produce tunnel vision whenever a three-decades-old

Belichick Sex Tape Cements Patriots' Standing as Dynasty

Some things in life are better left unsaid, especially when they're unconfirmed. But what the hell, this is funny in a morbid sort of way. A former sportswriter who travelled with the Patriots posted his grand finale "last day as a New England Patriot" on his new blog yesterday.

Among other things, Tommy Rider writes that Tedy Bruschi is a complete jerk and woefully disliked by his teammates and far from the man the fans see. He also claims Bruschi isn't a team leader and the real team leaders are Tom Brady (mmm), Matt Light, Richard Seymour and Rodney Harrison. He goes so far to say that Harrison is the nicest guy on the team, which is kind of funny since he's one of the dirtiest players in the game.

Rider also writes that Corey Dillon is a miserable piece of feces and that Randy Moss is the best player he's ever seen - and a likable guy to boot.

And then we come to Bill Belichick, described by Rider as willing to kill his mother if it meant winning a football game. That synopsis could probably be made by any football fan who follows the game closely. What one would never conjure up is a Belichick sex tape.

I heard from someone who is close to the case that there is a sex tape of Bill Belichick banging the married woman he had an affair with. I shit you not. The husband who is suing that woman for being unfaithful to him has a tape of his wife and Belichick screwing while the two of them were still married. Belichick is a very powerful man so I imagine he's doing everything in his power to squash this from getting out but it could only be a matter of time. A part of me doesn't want to see it but another part of me can't help but be intrigued.

Wow. I can't figure out what's more stunning: that there might be a Belichick sex tape or that a former Patriots employee would be intrigued by it. If Belichick really did star in a homemade movie of sorts, you'd have to think he executed with great tactics and used every advantage he could gain to put on a winning performance.

Roger Goodell has yet to comment on the matter.

"Ex-Pats" Writer Decides To Burn Bridges And/Or Create Elaborate PR Stunt

There's either an extremely elaborate story coming out of Foxboro or.....yeah.....there's an extremely elaborate story coming out of Foxboro. I don't even know where to start with this one, but I'll give it a shot.

Tom Casale was, up until recently, apparently a writer for Patriots Football Weekly. Tom has "been let go" for one reason or another (so says he) and now he wants to drop some bombs and nuke the place on his way out. Pats fans then decide to believe the plan via the comments and other websites. And......Herrrrrrrrre We.......GO!

Now that my time with the Patriots is over, I'm sure some of you would be interested in info from a guy who worked on the inside of an NFL Dynasty. Before I give out that info, I want to make it clear that nobody in that organization did wrong by me. Bill Belichick never yelled at me and the players were more than accommodating 99 percent of the time. I have no axes to grind with anyone. The things I write below are simply the truth from information I've obtained and observations I've made over the years. (Good so far....)

--Tedy Bruschi is much more popular with the fans than he is with his teammates. He isn't the team leader people think he is. Actually, Bruschi rarely talks to any of his teammates. (Enh...not bad...)

--Corey Dillon is about the most miserable piece of shit you would ever want to encounter. You should see the looks and gestures he would give fans when we went on the road. (That's a little better...)

--Hold on for this one: I heard from someone who is close to the case that there is a sex tape of Bill Belichick banging the married woman he had an affair with. I shit you not. The husband who is suing that woman for being unfaithful to him has a tape of his wife and Belichick screwing while the two of them were still married. (And Scene!)
Well then. Forget Spygate! We're on to Sex Tape Gate!!! The line forms behind me for the first peek. What's that? You just threw up??? Wuss.

I'm sure they'll receive a ton of press for this tomorrow, and watch for mainstream media to pick up on it around 10 a.m. or so. It should be a fun day in Foxboro and I'm curious to see how far this reaches. Very, very clever move though if you ask me.

Oh and by the way....it's for a betting website. Come on people.

My Last Day as a New England Patriot (Pregame.com)

Jimmy Kimmel Gives Adrian Peterson Too Much Credit

I'm not sure if all of you have witnessed the travesty now gracing the airwaves. Basically, it's a new DirecTV commercial that has Jimmy Kimmel walking around and talking about Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and his record-breaking rushing performance against the San Diego Chargers last season. I'm cool with that, except for the adjective Kimmel uses. The exact adjective used is escaping me, but I believe it was either "smashed" or "crushed."
Whoa whoa whoa, Jimmy.
The old record was set by Jamal Lewis, then playing for the Baltimore Ravens against his future team, the Cleveland Browns. Lewis set the record with 295 yards, surpassing Cincinnati Bengals running back Corey Dillon's record of I'm-going-to-say-about-270-some-yards (please correct me). Breaking a hallowed record by 20-some yards is pretty good. If Peterson "smashed" or "crushed" Lewis' record he must have really done a number on it. Oh wait, he rushed for 296 yards. One more measly yard. DirecTV must be rather desperate to introduce these types of exaggerations into their commercials.
Or else Jimmy Kimmel likes his hyperbole.

1997 NFL Draft Re-mix

Here's a look back at the 1997 NFL Draft to see who the teams would take if they could do it over knowing what they know today. This was a lot of fun making. I hope you enjoy it.
#1 St. Louis Rams - Orlando Pace
Hard to argue with a Hall of Fame Tackle that helped you to a couple of Super Bowl berths. Pace has been named All-Pro five times and been a Pro Bowler seven times.

#2 Oakland Raiders - Walter Jones
I was debating between Jones and Jason Taylor for the second pick. I decided to go with the Hall of Fame Tackle. Jones is a five-time All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowler.

#3 Seattle Seahawks - Tony Gonzalez
Losing Walter Jones would be tough, but acquiring a talent like Gonzo would soften the blow. He is the best pass-catching TE in NFL history. He leads his class in Receptions (820), Receiving Yards (9882), and TDs (66) regardless of position. He's and eight-time All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowler.

#4 Baltimore Ravens - Jason Taylor
Can you imagine adding Jason Taylor to Baltimore's defense? The Dancing with the Stars' star has been named the Defensive Player of the year, All-Pro three times, and a Pro Bowler six times. He has 662 Tackles and 117 Sacks in his brilliant career.

#5 Detroit Lions - Priest Holmes
He may not have been drafted originally, but after witnessing his dominance, the Lions would jump at the chance to add the 2002 Player of the Year. Having Priest Holmes follow up Barry Sanders' act would ensure the Lions weren't the bottom feeders they've become. He's been an All-Pro and a Pro Bowler three times each. He has 8172 Rushing Yards, 2962 Receiving Yards, and 94 TDs (86 Rushing).

#6 Seattle Seahawks - Tarik Glenn
While he's no Walter Jones, Tarik Glenn was a pretty solid Tackler, earning three trips to the Pro Bowl. He helped guide an offensive line that was among the league leaders in rushing, as well as fewest Sacks allowed.

#7 New York Giants - Tiki Barber
The G-Men will have to take Tiki with the 7th pick (rather than the 36th pick where he actually went) if they want his production in their backfield. The three-time All-Pro/Pro Bowler ran for 10,449 Yards and 55 TDs, while adding 5.183 Receiving Yards and 12 TDs.

#8 New York Jets - Ronde Barber
It's only fitting that the Twins go back-to-back. Ronde has earned five All-Pro and four Pro Bowl nods. He has 857 Tackles, 21 Sacks, and 33 INTs.

#9 Arizona Cardinals - Trevor Pryce
The Cardinals beef up their defensive front with teeh four-time Pro Bowl DE Trevory Pryce. He has 379 Tackles and 79 Sacks. He has recoreded at least 7 Sacks seven times.

#10 New Orleans Saints - Darren Sharper
The Saints bolster their secondary by adding four-time All-Pro/Pro Bowl Safety. He has 798 Tackles, 7 Sacks, and 53 INTs (which is tops among his class).

#11 Atlanta Falcons - Derek Smith
The Falcons go with the leading tackler of the class, LB Derek Smith. He has 1092 Tackles and 13.5 Sacks. He had at least 90 Tackles in his first nine years in the league. He's reached the 100 mark six different times.

#12 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Corey Dillon
Although Warrick Dunn was a great player for Tampa Bay, the turn to the leading rusher of the class in Corey Dillon. Dillon put together 11,241 Rushing Yards and 82 TDs. He ran for 1100 yards or better in seven of his first eight seasons. He has four 1300 Yard seasons to his credit.

#13 Kansas City Chiefs - Peter Boulware
With most of the treasured offensive players plucked from their grasp, Kansas City turns to the class' Defensive Rookie of the Year. The one-time All-Pro/four-time Pro Bowler had 403 Tackles and 70 Sacks. He racked up at least at least 7 Sacks in each of his first seven seasons (including three double-digit sack seasons).

#14 Cincinnati Bengals - Warrick Dunn
The beauty of Warrick Dunn is that he's like the anti-Corey Dillon. He is considered one of the nicest people to ever strap on a helmet and play pro football. He's not a bad player either, earning three Pro Bowl nods while producing 14,190 total yards (10181 Rushing) and 62 TDs (47 Rushing).

#15 Miami Dolphins - Sam Madison
The Fins jump up to take CB Sam Madison (they actually took him with the 44th pick. The four-time Pro Bowler has 470 Tackles and 37 INTs, which is good for second of his class.

#16 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Derrick Mason
The Bucs grab the best wideout of the class. Mason has been an All-Pro once and Pro Bowler twice. He has the most Receptions (710), Yards (9,024), and TDs (47) of the receivers in the draft.

#17 Washington Redskins - James Farrior
The Redskins go with Pro Bowl LB James Farrior, who has notched 1017 Tackles, 21 Sacks, and 10 INTs. He has four seasons of 120+ Tackles.

#18 Tennessee Oilers - Mike Vrabel
I was trying to figure out a way that I could keep Vrabel on the Patriots, but knew that would be wrong. Instead, Tennessee gets the All-Pro. Vrabel has 600 Tackles, 51 Sacks, and 10 INTs. He also has 8 career TD receptions.

#19 Indianapolis Colts - Jamie Sharper
Like I said, this wasn't a great draft for offensive players so the Colts turn to LB Jamie Sharper, who had 882 Tackles and 25.5 Sacks in his career. He really blossomed for Houston with three straight 130+ Tackle seasons.

#20 Minnesota Vikings - Mike Minter
The Vikes grab Safety Mike Minter who finished his career with 817 Tackles, 11 Sacks, and 17 INTs. He had at least 79 Tackles in all but two seasons in his career.

#21 Jacksonville Jaguars - Shawn Springs
Springs has been decent, but injuries have kept him from being one of the game's best. He's been to one Pro Bowl. For his career he has 616 Tackles, 7.5 Sacks, and 31 INTs.

#22 Dallas Cowboys - Jake Plummer
While he wasn' great, he would help bridge the gap between Troy Aikman and Tony Romo. The Pro Bowler has 29,253 Passing Yards, 161 TDs (161 INTs), a 57.1% Completion Percentage, and a 74.6 Passer Rating. He added 17 Rushing TDs.

#23 Buffalo Bills - Antowain Smith
Antowain was decent at times for the Bills (and later for New England). Smith is fourth in the class with 6881 Rushing Yards and third with 54 Rushing TDs. He had a pair of 1000 yard seasons.

#24 Pittsburgh Steelers - Marcellus Wiley
The Steelers go with Pro Bowl DE Marcellus Wiley. He finished his career with 324 Tackles, and 44 Sacks.

#25 Philadelphia Eagles - Ike Hilliard
The Eagles WRs over the years have typically been so bad that Ike Hilliard would be an upgrade. Ike has 499 Receptions for 5,973 Yards, and 31 TDs.

#26 San Francisco 49ers - Jake Delhomme
Jim Druckenmiller certainly didn't pan out for the 49ers. They would much rather have taken the undrafted Cajun QB. The Pro Bowler has 14,589 Passing Yards, 100 TDs (64 INTs), 59.7% Completion Percentage, and a 85.2 Passer Rating.

#27 Carolina Panthers - Bertrand Berry
I'm not even going to go into the scumbag the Panthers took with this pick. Instead I'll focus on who they would take. They would grab Pro Bowl DE Bertrand Berry, who has 289 Tackles and 54 Sacks. He had a pair of double-digit sack seasons in 2003 & 2004.

#28 Denver Broncos - Kenard Lang
He finished his career with them, why not start out with them since Trevor Pryce already got snagged? He had 455 Tackles and 50 Sacks before hanging 'em up.

#29 New England Patriots - Al Harris
The Pats add Pro Bowl CB Al Harris to the mix. He has 395 Tackles and 19 INTs.

#30 Green Bay Packers - Dexter Coakley
The Pack finish it up with three-time Pro Bowl LB Dexter Coakley. He had 797 Tackles, 9.5 Sacks, and 13 INTs in his career. He had 90+ Tackles five times.

Corey Dillon's Career Over

Corey Dillon yesterday confirmed that there is no chance at all he will play football again. This is somewhat surprising, as Dillon showed last year he still had something in the tank and there are a number of NFL teams who could benefit from his services this year. But Dillon has said no thanks and will stay retired.

'Says the Boston Herald: "Significant damage' to Maroney's joint"

No, it's not about his off-the-field activities, but about Lawrence Maroney's shoulder and how much it slowed him down in the playoffs. If the damage is bad enough do the Pats resign Dillon, go after another back in the draft, or do they sign a free-agent off the scrap heap?

Corey Dillon sets his sights on Eagles, Titans

Free-agent running back Corey Dillon was scheduled to visit the Bills today, before the team consummated a trade sending Willis McGahee to the Baltimore Ravens. But before he could take the trip, Dillon cancelled, thinking that Buffalo did not represent the right situation for him. Dillon is unwilling to go to a team he does not feel is on the cusp of a championship, and the Bills, in his eyes, do not qualify. Dillon, however, would welcome the chance to play for the Philadelphia Eagles or Tennessee Titans, where he could be a complementary back on what he believes is a surefire playoff contender.

Patriots are acting like the Redskins this off-season

The Pats have been different this off-season than they have been in the past. They paid big money to Thomas and now are considering trading for Randy Moss. Before this off-season I would say the Pats were just bluffing to get someone like the Dolphins to overpay but with what they have at receiver and what they have done so far, they might be trying to get Moss.

Corey Dillon Calling It Quits?

Tiki Barber, by retiring from professional football with his body relatively intact, may have begun a revolution. Well, if Barber hasn't started a revolution at least he has given another running back pause for thought. Corey Dillon, drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals the same year Barber came into the league and presently playing with the New England Patriots, is pretty sure he too is calling it quits.
