Marlins file for free agency

All of the Marlins eligible for free agency have filed, as expected.

Nick Johnson made an impact with the Marlins. But unless Florida works out a contract with the veteran, those 35 games may be the extent of Johnson's tenure with the organization.
Johnson formally filed for free agency on Friday, along with reliever Kiko Calero, who became a valuable performer in the back end of the bullpen.
The filing period began on Thursday, and now all four of Florida's eligible ...

PTI Hi-Def Video Shows Saliva Missing Rivera's Ball

PTI Hi-Def Video Shows Saliva Missing Rivera's Ball
Hosts Tony Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon put to rest any suspicion about the saliva scandal with a nationally-broadcast replay of yesterday's video in HI-DEF that clearly reveals saliva passing the ball the pitcher was holding and sailing downward past his hand toward earth.

Wilbon inferred, however, that baseball has no moral high ground to play "innocent until proven guilty" when it comes to players seeking an edge ...

Donnelly hopes to parlay success for 2010 security

Not long after Brendan Donnelly arrived with the Marlins in early July, he had a chat with then first baseman Jorge Cantu. Donnelly wouldn't reveal the specifics of the conversation, but it had something to do with what generally happens when he makes a mistake to a left-handed hitter.

The latest on the walking wounded.
First up Jeremy Hermida

Out since Thursday with an oblique strain, Jeremy Hermida had a cortisone shot Sunday to speed his recovery. Once the initial soreness or the shot subsides, Hermida should be able to begin baseball activity.

Next Brendan Donnelly

Right-hander Brendan Donnelly (right calf) will be activated from the disabled list today and be available to pitch Tuesday.

And that concludes today's update.

Brendan Donnelly to the DL

In last night's game Brendan Donnelly was removed due to injury and unsurprisingly he is headed to the DL.

Not wanting to chance further injury, the Marlins are placing veteran reliever Brendan Donnelly on the 15-day disabled list.
The 38-year-old right-hander strained his right calf while fielding a bunt in Florida's 4-3 loss to the Braves at Turner Field on Saturday night.

First off the calf is a very complex muscle and if he has indeed badly strained it, it might...

Marlins sign Brendan Donnelly

The Marlins have signed free agent RHP Brendan Donnelly and placed Chris Leroux on the 15-day DL with right shoulder inflammation.
The last time Donnelly pitch in the majors was in 2008 for Cleveland.
What is it about holiday weekends and the Marlins making deals? It is getting on my nerves.

Offerman Incident Brings Back Memories

First of all, sorry it's been awhile since my last post. I did not mean to disappear like that, I've just been busy trying to keep us on track for the playoffs.

I saw the post about Jose Offerman's meltdown. Wow. I've seen a couple helmet tosses at pitchers but I've never seen the batter carrying a bat.

Actually, the best brawl I've ever seen was when I was in AAA. We were in Salt Lake playing Iowa. Brendan Donnelly hit a guy, he was probably 6-5, 230, a big old dude. And Brendan is a big boy too. It was a train wreck at the mound. It was a real brawl, not one of those shoving matches you see. This one lasted 20-30 minutes.

I kind of knew it was going to happen. The guy had hit a couple of home runs off of us and was doing a little bat tossing, jogging around the bases, that kind of stuff so we knew it was coming. I was in the middle of the first pile. There were three different brawls going on at the same time. I got my pants ripped up and had a few bumps on the back of my head from being in the pile.

The worst thing for me was that it was in AAA and I always had a hard time finding pants that fit me there. I ripped my gamers from the knee down, someone must have been kicking me so they got cut up pretty good.
