Philadelphia Flyers Prospect Roundup For Week Of February 11th

By Jake Pavorsky (@JakePavorsky)
As the junior and hockey college seasons are coming down the final stretch, many Philadelphia Flyers prospects are trying to making a lasting impact on their 2012-13 season.
In relief for starting goalie Jake Patterson, Anthony Stolarz had an impressive showing for the London Knights. After Patterson let up two goals in just 5:12 action, Knights head coach Dale Hunter called upon Stolarz to finish the game. Despite stopping 29 of 31 shots, his efforts were in vain as the Erie Otters topped the Knights 4-3. But as Patterson continues to struggle, the 19 year old Stolarz is now getting plenty of opportunity to shine. He stepped on the ice for Sunday night’s game, and stopped 40 of 41 shots, helping the Night cruise past the Niagara IceDogs 5-1.
It’s been a fantastic week for the Portland Winterhawks‘ Taylor Leier, whose offensive contributions have helped the Winterhawks claim the top spot in t...

Philadelphia Flyers Prospect Roundup: Week of Feburary 3rd

Scott Laughton during his time with the Flyers. (Courtesy of NHL.com)
By Jake Pavorsky (@JakePavorsky)
Many prospects within the Philadelphia Flyers organization are making some noise throughout their respective leagues.
It certainly did not take long for Scott Laughton to get back in the swing of things in the OHL. After being called up by the Flyers to start the season, Laughton was sent down after 5 games in order to preserve a year on his entry-level contract. After posting 2 assists in his return, the first round pick had his best game of the season on February 3rd. He supplied 1 goal and 2 assists, along with an absurd goal differential of +5 in an 8-2 onslaught of the Belleville Bulls. He netted the Oshawa Generals 6th goal of the evening after picking off an errant pass by a Bulls defensemen. Even Colin Suellentrop, a 2011 Flyers draft pick, got in on the offensive action by adding an assist for the Generals. You can see highlights from the game here (Laughton is wearing #21...

Three Flyers prospects at the junior hockey level will start their regular season schedules today when the Oshawa Generals (featuring Scott Laughton and Colin Suellentrop) take on the Peterborough Petes (Derek Mathers).

The OHL and other CHL affiliate leagues offer various webcast packages, but they are quite pricey. A season pass (all teams, all games) costs $289.99. An individual team pass co...

The 2012 Prospects Camp for the Philadelphia Flyers ends this weekend with two scrimmages. The first scrimmage wrapped up earlier today at the Virtua Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ, with Team B (Orange) soundly defeating Team A (Black) by the score of 7-2. Shots favored Team B by a 50-30 margin.

Flyers Will Have To Proceed As If Pronger Is Never Returning

The devastating news was reported early Thursday evening by Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos via Twitter, and confirmed by the team later during the first period of last night’s Philadelphia Flyers contest in Montreal — the club’s top defenseman and team captain, Chris Pronger, will miss the remainder of the regular season and playoffs due to severe post-concussion symptoms.

It’s just another hard dose of adversity for the Eastern Conference-leaders, especially for their beleaguered blueline.
Already missing Erik Gustafsson (wrist surgery) and Andreas Lilja (high ankle sprain) for several weeks, Peter Laviolette has had to juggle defensive pairings for some time. The big four of Matt Carle (Pronger’s usual defensive partner), Kimmo Timonen, Braydon Coburn, and Andrej Meszaros have been eating up a ton of minutes, with AHL call ups Marc-Andre Bourdon and Kevin Marshall also seeing time.

Prospect Report: Start of a New Season

Find out why Derek Mathers has "Broad Street" written all over him. | Mike Davies/Peterborough Examiner, via www.gopetesgo.com

Starting today I’ll be publishing a prospect report every Friday on those players within the Flyers farm system. I’ll be taking a look at the kids in the CHL (QMJHL/OHL/WHL), Europe, the ECHL and the AHL. Of course, stats only tell part of the story. But these postings will be a convenient way to get a streamlined feel about the potential future talent for the Philadelphia Flyers.
As I gain an opportunity to get in touch with those who are more familiar with seeing these players in action I’ll be able to elaborate a little bit more. And while this weekly report will discuss all of the Flyers prospects, I will only be recognizing a few players from the Phantoms on a weekly basis, not all of them. If you have questions about the happenings with the Phantoms I highly suggest you seek out Tim McManus. He has his ...
