Is Geovany Soto Being Shopped?

The 2008 NL Rookie of the Year is coming off a horrible season but is Jim Hendry shopping his catcher?

According to a report from Baseball Prospectus on the eve of the GM Meetings in Chicago, "Catching has become an increasingly difficult position for teams to fill, yet there are some interesting names floating as trade possibilities : the Pirates' Ryan Doumit, the Rays' Dioner Navarro, the Rangers' Jarrod Saltalamacchia and the Cubs' Geovany Soto."

Cubs-Pirates Game Cancelled

After a two hour and thirty-two minute rain delay, Thursday night's game between the Cubs and Pirates was cancelled due to inclement weather.

With the Cubs down 3-0 in the top of the fourth, Ryan Doumit stepped to the plate to begin the inning. Jeff Samardzija got ahead in the count 1-2 then the rains came. Two pitches later, the game was halted with a 2-2 count on Ryan Doumit.

The Pirates jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after a RBI single by Garrett Jones plated Andy L...

Yep. All that and more. The Pirates put a whooping on the North Siders Wednesday. Karstens notched his first win as a starter since April. The bullpen was stellar thanks to the [...]

WP - Jeff Karstens (4-5) LP - Carlos Zambrano (9-7) Save - None

The Chicago Cubs are just going through the motions at this point. After dropping game one 4-0 and managing only four hits on Wednesday afternoon, the Cubs scored only two runs in the second game and the Pirates swept the Cubs in the day-night doubleheader.

Entering play on Wednesday the Pirates had lost 17 of their last 18 road games. The Bucs swept the Cubs and posted back...

Doumit's agent: There's no pouting in baseball

Finally, someone is talking a bit about Ryan Doumit's benching. Today, his agent denied that Doumit's benching was pouting-related, denied that Doumit's been dogging it since the trade deadline, and said that Doumit loves Pittsburgh and John Russell. DK has also confirmed from a couple sources that Doumit's benching came because he slammed his helmet down off the ground, only to have it rebound in Luis Cruz's face. That apparently pushed existing tension between the coachi...

RYAN DOUMIT SENT TO TIME OUT

In the midst of the Pirates' mind-blowing 19th consecutive loss at Milwaukee last night, manager John Russell benched catcher Ryan Doumit after 4 1/2 innings. Details on the incident are somewhat vague, but at the very least there appears to be a bit of legs to this rift, hence Doumit's absence from tonight's starting lineup.

The 28-year old oft-injured catcher, who's never played more than 116 games in a season, was hitting .219 with 8 HR and 26 RBI in 49 games this season. He will be replaced in the lineup by Jason Jaramillo, who promises to be on his best behavior.

Early web speculation of the incident has centered around Doumit's continued dislike of the Pirates' trading flurry this year, but if that's truly the case, it's truly pathetic. If Doumit is yearning to get out of Pittsburgh, causing a distraction is not a good way to enhance your trade value. Ask Brandon Marshall.

Email: Mondesishouse@gmail.com Twitter: twitter.com/mondesishouse Facebook: Facebook Group

Ryan Doumit gets benched mid-game

I suppose we all should've seen something like this coming after the house-cleaning that the front office did last month, but last night something triggered in Ryan Doumit and caused John Russell to bench him mid-game. Russell is refusing to talk to anyone about it, but from the quotes given he sounds about as pissed as he's ever been as Pirates' manager.
Of course, we don't know all the circumstances here because no one's talking and I doubt anyone is going to do any talk...

It hasn't been much of a year for Ryan Doumit(notes) – he missed two months with a busted wrist and he hasn't hit much when he's been on the field (.219 for the year, .182 in August). And the lost season may have taken a turn for the worse Friday when he apparently did something to tick off manager John Russell. Doumit went 0-for-3 at Milwaukee before heading to the showers, and after the game Russell let it be known – somewhat evasively – that he was hot at his ...
