In the case of Charles Woodson, Packers learned from their mistake with Driver.

On February 15 the Packers released a longtime veteran who was just as important in the locker room as he was on the field. Without even asking whether or not he would accept a pay cut Charles Woodson was unceremoniously released.
Some looked at this move with skepticism citing the fact the Packers did not have an experienced option across from Morgan Burnett at the safety position. With MD Jennings and Jeron McMillan however the Packers went with youth learning from a mistake they made just one year ago.
After winning “Dancing With the Stars” Donald Driver’s popularity was at an all-time high. Driver was coming off a season with 37 receptions, the lowest he’d tallied since 2000. It was clear that Driver’s role within the offense was declining. With options like Jordy Nelson, Greg Jennings, Randall Cobb, and James Jones all ahead of him on the depth chart Driver was in for a training camp battle. It was a struggle with Tori Gurley, Jarrett Boykin, and Diondre Borel all vying for a r...

Aaron Rodgers: “Randall Cobb is a guy who could be a 100-plus catch guy every year”

Now that Donald Driver and Greg Jennings are no longer around, the Packers will need there other receivers to step up. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers believes Randall Cobb can haul in 100 receptions a season.
“I still like the guys we’ve got,” Rodgers said, per ESPNWisconsin.com. “We have a lot of talent at that position. I think Randall Cobb is a guy who could be a 100-plus catch guy every year. James Jones led the league in touchdown receptions last year. (And) Jordy has had some real big years for us.”
I agree with Rodgers that Cobb could catch 100 balls a season, but he won’t because of how much Aaron spreads the ball around. The Packers offense isn’t designed to feed the ball strictly to one player.

Randall Cobb ready to step up in Green Bay

Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb told the Green Bay Press-Gazette that he’s ready to step up now that Greg Jennings and Donald Driver are no long around. “I think definitely with Donald retiring and Greg leaving, it’s definitely going to be a lot more weight on me, James and Jordy’s shoulders,” Cobb said. “But we’re taking on the challenge head-on. We’ve been really excited to get back and work. We’ve got some young guys, some drafted guys that’s coming in. We’re excited to get back to work and see how it’s going to turn out this year.” Cobb says he still has a lot of room to grow as a player. “I really don’t think I’ve peaked yet,” Cobb said. “I’m 22 years old. I’ve got a lot of learning still to do. I have a long way to go and I just hope I continue to get better over the next years.” Cobb is a dynamic player that can give opposing defenses nightmares. I think he’ll only get better as time goes on. Need NFL Tickets?
Donald Driver surprises his biggest fan

Donald Driver spent all 14 years of his career with the Green Bay Packers, and he is one of the most popular players in team history. While there are plenty of No. 80 jerseys floating around the Green Bay area at the moment, the owner of one of them may be his biggest fan. Angie LeRoy, a 78-year-old cancer survivor from Bellevue, recently decorated her door to honor Driver and his impending retirement. She tried and was unable to score tickets to his official retirement party, but she had a more simple wish anyway. “He is my idol,” LeRoy said according to FOX 11. “I was a cancer survivor, and I just hope someday I can get a big hug from him.” Her wish came true on Wednesday. Before Driver left Green Bay with his family, he paid LeRoy a surprise visit and gave her the hug she has been waiting for. He also autographed a number of items for her, including the No. 80 jersey that she happened to be wearing when Driver knocked on her door. To top it all off, a FOX 11 viewer gave LeRoy an ...

After ceremony, Driver made surprise stop

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Donald Driver isn't the most popular player in recent Packers history just for catching passes.

The beloved and newly retired wide receiver had one more surprise Wednesday on his way out of Green Bay. Just hours after the franchise's all-time leading receiver gave his tearful goodbye in front of 1,500 fans inside the Lambeau Field Atrium, he stopped by the home of a 78-year-old Packers fan, Angie LeRoy.

LeRoy had been featured on a story on FOX-11 in Green Bay on Tuesday, showcasing the front door decorations that she made in honor of Driver's retirement. It was during that interview which also led to LeRoy getting a ticket to Driver's ceremony -- that LeRoy said, "I just hope someday I can get a big hug from him."

After Driver saw the story, he made LeRoy's wish come true.

Driver rang LeRoy's doorbell Wednesday.

"Oh, my God," LeRoy said as she realized who was standing across from her. "Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Come in."

For the second night in a row, Donald and Peta scored perfect 10s across the board. Like a football team surging through the playoffs, Donald and Peta peaked at the best possible time.

Donald Driver: Packer for Life?

Donald Driver: Packer for life?
When Donald Driver tweeted that he’d be a “packer for life”, speculation around the Internet and Twitter grew rampant. Did Driver just re-work his contract? Had he been released and will be retiring at the end of the year?
Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com spoke to Driver’s agent, Jordan Woy, who stated that, “the Packers have always wanted Driver back.”
He went on to add,
“He has been busy with the DWTS show and the team knows that. I discussed deal structure with the team a while ago and we will work out the details once Donald returns to Green Bay.”
This clearly doesn’t put an end to the questions surrounding Driver and Green Bay’s plan for him in 2012. However, upon first glance, it definitely appears as if Driver could be back for another year with the Packers.
This is definitely a little puzzling because of the depth at wide receiver that Green Bay already has. Without Driver, the Packers still have Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb

Packers Keeping 6 WRs Doesn’t Make Sense

Could the Packers keep six WRs to retain Donald Driver?
Packers coach Mike McCarthy <a title="Mike McCarthy" href=""We don't just try to get four receivers or five receivers and stop there," he said. "You want to get as many as you can."" target="_blank">spoke highly of Donald Driver this week, giving no indication that the team plans to cut the 37-year-old any time soon. Of course, McCarthy wasn’t going to come out and say that Driver will be off the team shortly, so take the coach’s praise for Driver with a grain of salt.
Actually, McCarthy had a general quote about the Packers WR philosphy that I think actually hurts Driver’s chances of being a Packer in 2012. McCarthy said:
“We don’t just try to get four receivers or five receivers and stop there. You want to get as many as you can.”
This is bad news for Driver because it tells me that the Packers won’t hesitate to draft a WR if they see one they like. No, WR isn’t a po...
