The Method behind the Raider Madness

I’m not going to pretend to know exactly what is going on behind those closed doors in Alameda. For all I know, Al Davis and Tom Cable are quietly plotting the most carefully executed rebuilding effort since The Tuna and Tony Sporano touched down in South Beach.
If you only read the headlines, it would appear that this offseason has been business as usual for the franchise perceived to as the NFL’s most dysfunctional.
Therefore, I’m going to take you through some of the key ...

Oakland Raiders OTA answers questions, but leaves new ones

The coverage of the organized team activities at the Oakland Raiders' facility has centered around JaMarcus Russell's weight, or lack thereof. There are the cursory mentions of the few players who did not take part in these voluntary workouts, which is surprising that no one is claiming that Derrick Burgess or Nnamdi Asomugha is holding out as of yet. There are concerns rearing their head on the wide receiver and backup quarterback fronts, but overall it seemed to be a productive minicamp.

Oakland Raider position analysis: Linebacker

The Oakland Raiders have two stand out young linebackers in Thomas Howard and Kirk Morrison. The often injured Sam Williams and Robert Thomas will duke it out to fill the third 'backer position. Isaiah Ekejiuba and Ricky Brown provide depth and are two of the best Raider special teams players. This position is pretty well set for the Raiders.

The Raiders must resign Jarrod Cooper, Isaiah Ekejuiba, and Rickey Brown to keep the Bermuda Triangle intact

Much of the talk surrounding the impending Raider free agents surrounds Nnamdi Asomugha and Justin Fargas, there are several role players who are also on the free agent market that are important for the Raiders to retain. At the top of that list is reserve safety special teams ace Jarrod Cooper. Not far behind him are reserve linebackers Ricky Brown and Isaiah Ekejiuba. Collectively Cooper, Brown, and Ekejiuba form the Bermuda Triangle, returners get in but don't get out.
What to expect from Raider free agents

As of right now, there are 22 Oakland Raiders who are free agents of one type pf another. The biggest names are Nnamdi Asomugha, Jerry Porter, Justin Fargas, and Daunte Culpepper. Lesser names who are important role players include Chris Carr, Chris Clemons, John Condo, Isaiah Ekejuiba, and Jerrod Cooper. Lane Kiffin and Al Davis are certainly crafting a plan as to which of them to keep, and which to let walk. This is the first crucial stage of the offseason building plan for 2008.
