Gholston A Go

The New York Jets are all ready to go. The draft picks are signed and this is the squad we're going to whittle down into the surprise team of 2008. Unless the Jets bring in Brett Favre! Hey I want the guy here but apparently Paul Needell doesn't and he doesn't offer a compelling arguement against Favre, just more of the same "media circus" mumbo jumbo.
The real story in Jetville is Vernon Gholston signing his deal and getting on the practive field today. No holdout! (I'm not counting the first day of camp as holding out). The deal sounds like it will be 5 years with a maximum value of $50 million if Burnin' Vernon meets all his incentives. Yes the Jets wanted it to be 6 years just like they wanted Revis to sign for but they smartly cut to the chase and got him in camp and signed at 5 years rather than suffer another long, drawn out battle like they faced with Revis last year.
It appears that Eric Smith will head into camp as a starting safety over Abram Elam while Chris Baker may be waffling on his ridiculous whining against the team for a new and undeserved contract. The fans at Hofstra sound like they want Brett Favre with each practice interception thrown by Clemens or Pennington. Until the situation is resolved I'm changing his name to Gett Favre.

Brother of Jets' Elam is third sibling to die by gunfire

The older brother of New York Jets safety Abram Elam was fatally shot, the third sibling in the family to die by gunfire since 1987. Riviera Beach police officers were called to the scene of a shooting at about 12:35 p.m. Friday, and found Donald Charles Elam shot in the lower back, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office news release. Donald Elam, 33, was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead. The Palm Beach Post reported that Abram Elam's brother, Donald Runner, was fatally shot in 1987. He was 17. Christina Elam, his sister, was shot in 1999. "Abram learned this afternoon that his brother has been killed; the circumstances of his death are still unclear," the Jets said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Abram and his family." Donald Elam was once the youngest person in the Palm Beach County indicted on a first-degree murder charge, the Post said. Elam, then 14, was acquitted of the 1989 shooting.
