It's hard to even consider this part of the challenge. Looking at you Maryland.
*****

Find the shooting touch: Maryland leads the ACC in blocked shots and rebounding margin, but the Terrapins are tied for 10th in three-point shooting at 31 percent. Northwestern will dare them to shoot from the outside in a 1-3-1 half-court trap. Logan Aronhalt went 4 for 4 against Georgia Southern and should be counted on again as a zone-breaker, but the Terps will need more than the Albany transfer to get hot, meaning perimeter threats like Seth Allen, Nick Faust and Jake Layman.
Rotate on defense: Northwestern uses its Princeton offense to hunt layups and open three-point shots with back screens, sharp cuts and motion principles. While the Terps have improved defensively, they struggled to defend a hot-shooting Lafayette team on the perimeter.

The Terps return four key players from last season's 17-15 squad: guards Nick Faust and Pe'Shon Howard, center Alex Len and forward James Padgett, and welcome a freshman class that was ranked in the top 20 nationally. Maryland also added two transfers who are eligible to play immediately in Dez Wells and Logan Aronhalt. Wells, who on Wednesday was cleared to play by the NCAA, is an athletic, physical and versatile guard. The sophomore averaged 9.8 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game for Xavier last year. Aronhalt is a proven scorer that netted 1,100 points in his career at Albany.

Where is the Next Big Jewish Basketball Star?

The NBA is up and running. Omri Casspi is starting without very impressive numbers and Jordan Farmar remains a solid backup on the verge of leading a team. Since everything is status quo with our star NBA players, TGR begs to ask the question, who is next? (Not a Goldberg reference).

In the college game right now, our upperclassmen and top scorers play for small schools. Certainly Zach Rosen and Jake Cohen will have a chance to play overseas, but it is unlikely either will make the NBA. Corbin Moore and Chris Wroblewski have improved but there chances are even dimmer.

If we look at some of the younger players at top programs, we have a few. Jacob Susskind at Maryland, Danny Rubin at Boston College, and Nate Lubick at Georgetown. As of now none of them show NBA caliber potential but should improve at these big time programs. Also, next year Aaron Liberman will join the Northwestern Wildcats. At 6'9 he is a project but could have some potential if he puts on wei...

I am not sure how this got by me. It has all the things I am passionate about. Jewish education (Solomon Schechter no less) and a major college basketball team.

Meet Jacob Susskind, alumnus of Solomon Schechter/Golda Och, freshman for the Maryland Terps. Click HERE to read more. Thank you to Richard Lerner for sending this in.

Both Harvard and Princeton have downed the 'Noles this season.

I don't care. The Terps aren't losing to Cornell. The Big Red (as they are called) sport a 4-8 record; but they've played teams relatively tough. The only like-opponent they share with the Terps is Illinois. The Illini escaped with a 4 point victory.

Maryland is better than Illini. Yes, I realize the final score stated otherwise, but the Terps clearly ran out of gas in that game and the Illini went on their big run while 3 walk-ons were on the court. I think the current Terps squad wit

Maryland hits the halfway point of its six-game homestand with a post-holiday matchup with Albany. The Terrapins are 7-3 after beating Radford in their last game. The Terps have won four straight, the longest winning streak since 2009-10, when they ended that regular season with seven straight wins.
The Terrapins will get 7-foot-1 center Alex Len into the lineup, as his 10-game suspension from the NCAA has ended. Len had played briefly for a club team in his native Ukraine and had to sit out the early part of this season due to NCAA amateurism guidelines.
Len is not the only newcomer being brought back into the lineup, as Pe'Shon Howard made his season debut last Friday in the win over Radford. Howard scored seven points with three assists in his first game back from a broken foot, and played a career-high 32 minutes in his return.

I don't want to get too optimistic on you - I've worked very hard to craft and maintain my perceived glass-half-empty disposition - but Maryland's Sunday BB&T Classic game against Notre Dame is totally winnable.
I'm not sure I would've thought that at the beginning of the year, and probably not at all after the Terrapins lost by 20 to Alabama or 26 to Iona in Puerto Rico. But things have changed.
For one, it looks like some legitimate progress is being made by Turgeon & Co., who darn near took down Illinois (overrated though they may be) just a few days ago. For another, the Fighting Irish might be in even worse shape than the Terrapins: they boast losses of 20 and 29 points (to Gonzaga and Missouri, respectively), and their best win on the season was against a 3-4 Detroit team ... at home ... by six points.
On top of all that, their leading scorer and
