Four overvalued wide receivers to avoid drafting

These four wide receivers stand out to me as representing the "first tier" of overvalued wideouts - guys whose names frequently leap off the page to me as I review power rankings from around the web. Someone in your league will draft one of these players far too early. Don't let it be you.

Site Has Hasselbeck as a Fantasy Bust in 08

Fantasy site KFFL.com has released their lists of "busts" in the fantasy world for 2008, and on the list is Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck. Here is their breakdown on the Hawks QB:
Hasselbeck's favorite wide receiver, Bobby Engram, 35, is not happy with his contract and is holding out. Wideout Deion Branch (knee) is coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and may not be ready for Week 1. Seattle has several young receivers - Ben Obomanu, Logan Payne and Courtney Taylor - who may not be ready to step up. The tight end position could take an early hit with rookie tight end John Carlson as the expected starter. Finally, they have a new backfield after cutting former MVP Shaun Alexander, which could lead to instability. In some drafts this year, Hasselbeck, who was just getting Super Bowl tickets two seasons ago, is going ahead of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. Each of these players could be better selections than Hasselbeck's fifth-round average draft position and be had later in your draft. Hasselbeck is still a weak No. 1 quarterback, and tickets to watch him and the Hawks maybe have a tough 2008 will be easy to come by.
Speaking of grabbing tickets, Seahawks Gab is officially endorsing RazorGator as our recommended resource to grab great seats for all Seattle Seahawks games this season. Get great Seattle Seahawks Tickets through, Razorgator, which can be counted on for over 30 years of service providing Hard-To-Get NFL tickets, Super Bowl tickets and more. There's plenty of reasons why we here at Seahawks Gab have decided to endorse them as the Official Ticket Broker of Seahawks Gab, and now check them out to find out. If you need Seahawks tickets, you can trust RazorGator every time to provide exactly what your looking for.

Fantasy Football Notes - Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks found themselves in a familiar place at the end of the 2007 regular season, atop the NFC West standings, but the way they got there differed greatly from years past. In recent history, the Seahawks had been driven by their running game. That's what happens when you have an MVP type back lining up behind your quarterback. But, as Shaun Alexander's skills deteriorated, a change in philosophy was needed. And, in 2007, the Seahawks did a 180, deciding to hand the reins to quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and become a pass first team.

The change worked as the Seahawks jumped from the league's 19th ranked offense in 2006 to the 9th best in 2007. Hasselbeck, who put up the best numbers of his career, completing 62.6% of his passes for 3966 yards and 28 TDs to 12 INTs, had no trouble becoming the focal point of the offense. The change of philosophy also made Seattle's wide receivers viable fantasy football options throughout much of the season.Like Hasselbeck, Bobby Engram had the best year of his career, which is saying something at the tender age of 35. For the first time ever, Engram topped the 1,000 yard mark with 1,147 receiving yards to go along with 6 scores. Nate Burleson, may have come up a bit short on the yardage side of things with just 694 yards on the year, but his 9 TDs led to 7 double digit fantasy performances. Even Deion Branch and DJ Hackett, who both missed time due to injury, were solid fantasy options. Branch tallied 6 double digit games in 11 played, while Hackett had 3 in 6 games, though he left the first one rather early because of an ankle injury.

While the Seahawks' new offensive game plan aided the value of Hasselbeck and the team's wide receivers, it hindered that of the team's running backs as the team finished 20th in rushing offense on the year. Those low rushing totals led Maurice Morris (101 fantasy points) and Shaun Alexander (99 fantasy points) to combine for a total of just 200 fantasy points. Alexander had well above 300+ points on his own in his 2005 MVP Season.

Engram latest to want a new contract

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver, Bobby Engram, is the latest NFL player to want a new contract. Engram is currently making $1.7 million for the 2007, while fellow WR Deion Branch is making $3.5 mil and going to miss part of the 2008 season with an ACL injury. Engram led the 'Hawks last year with 94 catches, 1147 yards and 6 touchdowns. I'd say numbers like that are worth some more money, especially when 2 receivers on the team make almost double the money, but Engram had almost double their catches. Engram hasn't made a big stink yet, but that could change soon….

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers Revisited

Half of the fun of fantasy football is go to back and look at the pre-season projections for several players and compare their production to what was expected. It'll leave many of you scratching your head for drafting Donald Driver so high and kicking yourself for passing over Randy Moss.

While the running backs and wide outs were drafted earlier, the wide receiver position offered the most stability in the 2007 fantasy football season. Randy Moss and Terrell Owens led the way for the wide receivers, but check out where Bobby Engram and Roddy White landed. How about Brandon Marshall and Wes Welker? They were nowhere to be found on many managers' fantasy radars!

Here's a look at top 20 receivers, and where they fit amidst our pre-season projections.

Washington vs. Seattle Preview It's Wild Card Time Fools!!!!

Can the Skins keep on hanging on to there hopes of going to the super bowl after surging after the death of Sean Taylor or will Hasslebeck and the Hawks denie them and go after the cowboys, here's my opinion. For the Hawks to have a chance to win they'll have to try to get the ball in the air with Hasslebeck, because Shaun Alexander isn't as good as he once was and ever since the death of the Meast the Redskins are 1st in running defense in 71.8 yards per game. When the skins have the ball they'll have some issues trying to beat the beasts like Marcus Trufant ,Julian Peterson and of course Lofa Tatupu so that will be a great battle between them and Clinton Portis and the skins passing attack. When I said that Hasslebeck needs to bring the passing attack by passing it to guys like Bobby Engram and Nate Burleson but man they'll be hurting with the hard hitter LaRon Landry and the great Shawn Springs protecting the attack and bringing the pain. So it'll be a good game and it'll be interesting to see if Todd Collins can keep this hot streak up and try to throw the ball to Santana Moss. For the game I got Redskins winning 21-17

Ask the Geeks: Week 9

We answer three readers' questions this week...

Jason asks: Would you sit Addai and Wayne against the Pats? I can plug in Willis McGahee and A. Boldin as replacements.

Chris asks: Who would you start: Big Ben vs. Baltimore, or Campbell vs the Jets?

(A different) Chris asks: Hey guys, I am currently tied for 1st and this week will determine the outright lead in the league. The problem with week 9 is that I have 4 hot receivers now. So, who should I start out of Colston, Jennings, Engram, and Evans? I was thinking about benching Engram but he may have a huge week on a weak Cleveland pass D. What do you think?

What happened to the camera in the Seahawks-Saints game, depends who you ask

During the Saints-Seahawks game, NBC's overhead camera fell to the turf. According to the Tacoma News, it fell like a flying saucer almost hitting Hasselback. If you talk to the company that supplies the camera it was: "It was a controlled descent due to human error on the part of the operator," he said. "There was never any failure. It was a misstep in protocol." You decide:
