College Hoops: No Doubt About It...UNC Will Be Preseason No. 1

UNC players have no intention of returing to Chapel Hill

The UNC Tar Heels would easily be ranked #1 in the country next year and be the pick for the National Championship Game if all three of these players returned (Green, Lawson, Ellington). However, it seems as if Lawson and Ellington are content with their 2 years at Chapel Hill and don't want to make another run at a title, even though they got smoked in the Final Four by Kansas last year. This upsets me a little, to say that they had a good run and that it left a bad taste in your mouth but you're just going to move on...even though you have a really good chance of winning it next year. I understand these guys have worked their whole lives to be at this point, to get to the NBA, but they also have a great opportunity back at Carolina.

UNC's Green declares for NBA Draft

I'm a little late reporting this, but Danny Green declared himself eligible for the NBA Draft a few days ago but will not sign with an agent. Green joins Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington in testing the NBA waters, but I hope that all three of them come back to make one last run with Tyler Hansbrough at a National Championship.

Diamonds and gridirons and hoops, oh 'Heels!

It's been a busy four days in Blue Heaven.

Tyler's back, the baseball team took two of three from the 'Noles and two 'Heels were selected in the NFL Draft. It could probably be better, but for April, it feels pretty good to be a Tar Heel.

To the delight of Blue Heaven, and presumably Roy Williams, college basketball's reigning player of the year will have one last dance.

Tyler Hansbrough has announced that he has decided not to enter the NBA Draft.

UNC: The Mourning, After

Two hours and fifteen minutes after it started, you sit and you watch a great basketball team, deserving of victory, walk off the court to prepare for one last game. You're happy for them. Sort of. They're just college kids. They certainly earned it. And then you see your boys. And you begin to ache.

North Carolina-Kansas: A final (four) glance

Unless you've been in a cave (or actually used your noggin and simply ignored the hub-bub), you may have missed the mainstream media's take on Saturday's Final Four meeting between basketball superpowers North Carolina and Kansas.

Final Four Preview

This Final Four will be by far the best in recent years with all #1 seeds advancing to San Antonio. MEMPHIS, whom many believed would be the first #1 knocked out looks like the favorite going into this Final Four weekend. Their free-throw shooting turned out to not be a problem when they shot for 30 of 36. When Memphis makes their free-throws, they can be anyone in the country. With such a weakness Memphis still went undefeated with the exception of a loss to a highly touted Tennessee Vols team who has nearly as much athleticism as the Tigers. I am loving Derrick Rose as a player more and more. This kid can do it all. Although Micheal Beasley will probably be the #1 pick in the draft, Rose will end up as the best pro out of his draft class. Expect to see a Deron Williams-type coming party by his 3rd year in the league. As much as I want the KANSAS Jayhawks to win this weekend, they looked horrendous against Davidson. I think Davidson has a great team with star Stephen Curry, but if the Jayhawks could pull down a couple of rebounds and showed up on the offense side they would have pulled out a 10+ point win. Plenty of discussion has been made over the fact that Roy Williams is facing his old team, but that has been a few years back and none of the KANSAS players or staff has any hard feelings towards Roy.
FINAL FOUR PICKS: Kansas over North Carolina. Kansas follows up their worst game of the tourney with their best thus far. Kansas's guards will slow down the speedy Tywon Lawson while Kansas throws too many skilled bigs at Tyler Hansborough. This will be a high scoring event but Kansas can play grind it out basketball and up tempo. X-factor: UNC G/F Danny Green. Whenever UNC's Hansborough or Lawson are begging for a basket he usually comes up with key baskets until Hansborough starts to heat up. If Green can get 15 pts. and play solid defense, Kansas might go down in this battle.
Memphis over UCLA. I love how the Tigers are playing. They have played the best basketball over the last two games and will handle the Bruins after destroying the highly talented Longhorns in Houston. CDR and Rose along with a patient but tough Joey Dorsey is too much to handle. Although UCLA's Kevin Love will give headaches, Memphis will put this out in a tight one.
Kansas over Memphis. This is a toss up. Kansas will win their 3rd title in school history and 20 years after Danny Manning and the Miracles.

Hansbrough wills North Carolina to San Antonio

Carolina's sensational junior forward simply willed North Carolina to victory in Charlotte's East Regional Final on Saturday. His 28-point, 13-rebound effort punched the 'Heels a ticket to the 2008 Final Four in San Antonio. It was a tremendous big-game performance by a tremendous big-game performer.

Live blog: North Carolina & Louisville

The Tar Heels and Cardinals have been playing really hard so far, and UNC has scored almost all their points in the paint and are killing 'em on the boards. Louisville is hittin' from the floor though, hitting two 3's already and looking confident that they can hang. UNC is getting solid early contributions from Green and Ginyard. With 12 mins left, UNC is up 5.

Elite 8 preview: Tar Heels and Cardinals set to rumble in Charlotte

In the past 24 hours we've learned a couple of important truths about home court advantage as it pertains to the Carolina-Louisville match-up on tonight: a) North Carolina coach Roy Williams does not think his Tar Heel team has a home court advantage in tonight's East Regional Final, and b) Louisville coach Rick Pitino does not appreciate the fact that Roy Williams does not think his Tar Heel team has a home court advantage in tonight's East Regional.

1/2 - Kent State versus North Carolina - as it happens

As we start out 2008, I figured the best way to kick things off is to do a running commentary of the #1 team in the nation - the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Heels come into the game a bit short handed - backup guard Bobby Frasor blew out his knee and is gone for the season, backup guard Quentin Thomas is nursing an ankle injury is questionable for the game, and forward Alex Stephenson is away from the team attending to family matters.

Will the lack of depth hurt UNC?
