Inside The Mind of Rzayo24: There goes the no-hitter

Let me first say - don't freak out - it was one game. The Falcons lead us into a dome of terror - everyone knows playing on the road for a season opener is a big disadvantage. Everyone is undefeated and going to the Super Bowl - which leads to every fanbase being the worlds greatest twelfth man. On the positive side - Phillip Merling looked like a super-sized Shawne Merriman. Our rookie corners held their own - and D-Bess did his uncanny O.J. McDuffie third down impression...

Wednesday Notes: Bryant Johnson Returns; Lions Release Fonoti, Sign WR McMullen

The Lions signed wide receiver Billy McMullen and released offensive guard Toniu Fonoti on Tuesday. McMullen was just released by the Seahawks, and with the Lions' wide receivers having a bad case of the injury bug, the team felt it was necessary to add depth to that position.
Bryant Johnson finally practiced for the first time this training camp. He only took part in individual drills for the most part, but that seems to be the Lions' protocol when injured players ...

A Look Back: The 1999 Cornhuskers

The last time Nebraska finished a season in a way that satisfied all but the most spoiled Husker fans had to be 1999. The team went 12-1, won the Big 12, and beat the defending national champion in a BCS bowl. By avenging its only loss of the season in the Big 12 title game, there was no team NU faced that had the last laugh. Sure there might have been some disappointment that the Huskers lost a winnable game in Austin. Adding insult to injury were the self-inflicted wounds in the game. The ...

"Now, I return to this young fellow. And the communication I have got to make is, that he has great expectations."—Charles Dickens
Each season in the NFL, fans of most teams reasonably look forward to making the playoffs. For fans of around 10-12 teams, hope can glimmer, but they've learned to look forward to another event: the NFL Draft.
For Lions fans, it's an obsession bordering on extreme. Lions' fans are always among the most knowledgeable in the game when it ...

Brett Favre and Steve Smith: A Dream Union Made in Heaven

Can you imagine Brett Favre and Steve Smith playing together? Boy, I sure can.

Do not get me wrong, I like Jake Delhomme as much as the next, but Favre sure would make things in Charlotte much more interesting this season.

When I think to myself about this very plausible possibility, it truly brings back memories of a young Brett Favre hooking up with an explosive Sterling Sharpe on countless fantastic plays. Steve Smith may not be the same type of receiver as Sterling was, but he is certainly one of the most prolific receivers in the game today.

Likewise, Brett Favre is not the young man he once was, but he can still sling it with the best of them. The guy passed for 4,155 yards on 535 attempts, and completed 66.5 percent of his passes this past season.

Moreover, Brett chalked up 28 touchdowns while throwing only 15 interceptions, and earned a QB rating of 95.7. Let's face it; those numbers are not too shabby for an old man.

Other than playing with Steve Smith, why would Favre like to play with the Panthers this year? Well, how about a bolstered offensive line and running game?

This offseason the Panthers went out and acquired some beef with the signings of three free agent guards in Keydrick Vincent, Milford Brown and Toniu Fonoti, who weigh in at an average of 332 pounds.
They also drafted bruising running back Jonathan Stewart, who is 5'10" and 235 pounds, to complement the talented DeAngelo Williams.

Now this may be some wildly concocted dream, but maybe not. The Panthers could feasibly acquire Favre for the price of say, a couple of third rounders and taking on his gargantuan contract.

Is it worth it? Probably not, when considering all things, but I would love to see it happen anyway.
